I bought a 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid Ex in June of this year. It was a beautiful car, had very low mileage and extremely well taken care of. 2:20 We have gotten quite far regarding hybrid fuel economy. It also seems like it won't get better anymore. The 2023 Camry Hybrid LE gets 52 MPG combined with that 2.5L 4th gen two-motor hybrid system. With Toyota's 5th gen hybrid you get more power but the fuel economy is reduced. Frankly I think 208 hp is plenty.
Showing Kia's key fob has me thinking... it looks like a key fob that came out today. Car interiors have improved so much since 2000s/early 2010s but key fob is the same. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess? But idk... maybe someone should shake up key fobs. Great video as always!
@@BernonCars I suspect that Hyundai/Kia didn’t have proper self-preservation systems implemented at least in their early hybrid systems. Toyota hybrids for example will cycle the engine for a few minutes after starting the car in order to warm the engine up and circulate fluids. I bet that engine had carbon buildup from not running and flooring it is what killed it.
My 2012 Optima Hybrid EX engine seized in January 2023..Kia replaced the engine under the recall which then seized 6 months later in June 2023..Kia replaced again under the recall

(Along with a message on dash that said do not operate) due to recall sent into dealership for 8 months to replace engine and hybrid system. Fast forward to today ( mind you less than 5, 000 miles driven maintenance kept up on ) not ecselerating when pressing pedal, hybrid system indicator light on instrument panel . Recall on part 23V652 used in replacement . Cherry on top THERE IS NO REMEDY! You can Check for yourself on Kia website & National Highway Traffic Safety Administration . Anyone have any information, proactively determined

Update to my post from 4 days ago. I received a call from the dealership on Aug. 25, 2023 & they were able to duplicate the “brake warning light” and thought the cause was due to the ABS module needing replacement, which they did. I picked the car up on Aug. 7, 2023 and made it home with no issue. I live 45 min. from the dealership. I haven’t driven it much since then but will post updates periodically. I really hope this was the cause!
Update on my Aug. 2023 post. I picked up my car Aug. 7, 2023 and drove it problem free until Sept. 2, 2023. The dreaded check brake warning light popped up and the car shut down. I was extremely disappointed. I made an appt. to take it back to the dealer. Before I was able to get it in for service, the driver seat began to make a loud buzzing noise when it slid backward & forward . I asked them to check that out as well. A couple weeks later I called for a progress report. They couldn’t get the check brake warning message to come on and the motor on the seat needs replacement. It will cost $2400 to fix the seat. The service adviser stated I would have to buy a new drivers seat. The motor can’t be bought separately as it’s part of the seat, (purchased from Kia). As I write this, the car is still in the service Dept. and has been ready for pick up for a couple weeks. I don’t want the the car back and am looking to sell it. I will see what their offer is to buy it back. Talk about major disappointment, but lesson learned. I will only buy Toyota or Honda brands.
