Haven’t tried it yet but from all the reviews I’ve seen so far it sounds incredible! I don’t think this is meant to be a stand alone unit and I see a lot of people complaining about that. This seems more like competition for the other units that are giving you the preamp tones. I could care less if there is a built in OD or not but that’s just my preference. Great video!
Almost rushed and grabbed one but I read the manual. No OD, one modulation effect (chorus only), can't move fx around. So basically this can never be a stand alone rig for me. If the captures were considerably more accurate than the tonex then maybe it could replace the tonex but the bigger unit has been comparable to tonex. My preference - A few UA audio amp pedals in between an h-90, a full analog rig, or a fractal are the way to go.

Thanks for being honest in your review. There are some weird decisions Neural DSP made. But still interesting, bc you can include an overdrive in the capture. But it would be much more beneficial if we could decide which effects we want to assign and may have the ability to decide where to put them in the signal chain. Not sure if that would work for me. Honestly it could cover most of my live tones but I don’t like the fact that it is kind of inflexible if you can’t make your own captions in terms of effects

it's a basic unit, and nothing stops you from using a drive pedal in front, and it supports capturing with a drive pedal. Most devices like this are underfeatured and overpriced, if we're being honest. They're really made for pro level touring musicians who have a specific sound that relies on specific gear, usually multiple amps or expensive/rare amps that are a pain to replace if something happens, and it's easier to use tone captures. The other target customer base is people with too much money and not enough sense to realize they don't need it. Mostly guitarists in local bands with inflated egos and expendable income to burn on gear. Most people would be better served with a couple of pedals and something like a Revv or Lichtlaerm or TC Electronic or UA preamp pedal, or else some sort of AIO multi-FX modeler, and/or a solid state amp of some kind.
No power supply needed because your pedalboard should power it 9-12v range. It’s a pedal No screen needed you carry one around all day - makes the product more durable. FX loop doesn’t matter live audience will never know the difference. Sounds way better than Line6 and ToneX tinnitus crap.

I think for the price, the fact you can’t control the order, and its limited effects, and the simple fact you still can’t use your amp sims, something they’ve promised long ago now, it should have more to it. The price isn’t too affordable in my eyes when you can just save $50 and get an HX stomp, or save $250 and get a ToneX. Where you getting a quad for 1100$ ? They are 1700$.. most of those things you listed everyone already has laying around . I just picked up the nano and a HB GPA100 power amp and both were 640$ total
You just got a new sub! LOVE the transparency about this being sponsored, love your unbiased opinion and thanks for the captures! I’ll be sure to use them when mine comes in!
I'm gathering the platform to use it appears easy. If that's the case, I will look into selling my current rig and to pick up one of these, just for fun.
I think a Micro Cortex at ~$750 that had 4 buttons, an effects loop and ability to add pedal captures in front of the amp captures would have probably been better. I’m just a home player though so take my bad opinions with a grain of salt 😅
I think the biggest miss, is that majority of guitar players were hoping to get into the modeling hardware world of Neural and were expecting a literal smaller version of the QC, and that is not what it is. I'm not saying it's bad, but I think the marketing certainly is. Still, 500 bucks and no power cord is insane.
tbh something like this doesn't need an FX loop. Hell, you can put it IN the FX loop of a multi-FX unit, or treat it like a preamp pedal with built-in reverb and delay. TBH I think with units like this, including the NAM Player, and the ToneX/ToneX One, this is their best use case.
I love the sound, I totally agree with you with the overdrive, I would have loved to see how did you connect the Nano Cortex with the Amp heads for the captures. I suppose that maybe connecting the send of the effects loop to the device?? My great dilemma is spending the whole amount and going for the big brother or going for this Nano thing. What happened to the Mooer PreAmp live!! Every single TH-camr said it was more than awesome and then forgot about it. I still own one and I think it's still a great sounding device.
Cool and all, but very limited in its use cases. Like others have said, this really only makes sense for people with an amp collection they want to capture and put on a pedalboard. But even then there's the little ToneX pedal for that. And this doesn't make sense as a studio only item, especially when theres the Neural Amp Modeler for free. The lack of built in amps seems the biggest issue for me. No way this could replace my HX Stomp. Would love a dedicated video on the Quilter!
I think the sound of this is great but to be honest I think it was released a year or so too late because of the Tonex. This is essentially the same as the original pedal but has a delay and pitch shifter instead of the compressor on the Tonex. Obviously you can capture on this but the idea of ToneX is to use it in conjunction with the computer app. I don’t think there’s enough of this of a difference to justify getting this too, I’ll just use my own delay and modulation with it and that’s it
So maybe I missed it but I have a question: I saw you capture the amp with a cabinet; did you then run your capture through a regular guitar cabinet without turning off any IR block? Sorry if it’s a silly question but I’m just trying to wrap my head around this capture process.
It’s cool and all but it could never be a stand alone rig for most of us. I’ll stick with my mx5 for now, bc of the versatility and it can do what everyone’s complaining this thing can’t do. Basically this thing can pretty much only be used for the amps and to capture amps. Not worth it to me
The NC is about a third of the price of a QC. Don’t need a screen. Can’t beat tactile rotary knobs. Very quick and intuitive. You can capture effects and plugins. NC also gives you access to thousands of captures from the Cortex Cloud. Jack Gardiner, Rabea Massaad, Yes Please!
There must be something weird with adding the OD's in front, because IK was going to have an OD slot and changed there mind and added a compressor. I think they just want you to bake it in the capture IDK
This seems like a great backup for quad cortex users but honestly this product as a whole is super underwhelming. I’ll stick to my 6505+ for now but the captures in this definitely sound amazing!!
No stereo amps? No stereo IRs? No FX Loop? Man, In my mind they should have just created a devoted SHARC assembly for a single plugin (Archtype Plini Pedal). And called it a day. I wonder if somehow the capture in could be used as an fx loop for that overdrive "out-front" setup?
Dude, can you say the the Mezzabarra is the most sickening amp that you have. If I get an amp, I just need to know which is the most killer. Currently I just mainly use plugins that everyone knows about. I do have a boss katona 50 mk2 which I think is killer plus i got it for $100. I do also use my Zoom g9.2tt from time to time. Thanks
@@florenttenryu5011 thanks man. My buddy has soo many damn amps that I get confused like I like that and that and that. Man a jcm800 2203 with an overdrive are pretty brutal as well. Man the amp sim sound sick as well especially when adding mixing and mastering plugins in them. Have a good day
Everyone keeps complaining about the lack of boost... I'm just trying to move away from using my computer and I don't have an existing pedal board.. Do I just save for a Quad or is this thing misunderstood...? OR, not for a guy without a pedalboard...?
It really seems like they rushed this to market to beat the upcoming Fractal and Line 6 releases. It doesn’t even have amp models which are actually excellent on the Quad.
If I were to only play distorter I could get whatever brand... nux? Bheringer ... whatever... I want to hear how it does with clean and edge of breakup... does it feel realistic?
It kinda seems like they spent more time on the app than they did on the capabilities of the unit. I ordered one but the more I learn the more I think I might return it and I don’t even have it yet
My assessment down below, but for the algorithm (can you read this, TH-cam?!): GREAT video, one of the best of yours in a longer run, you allowed for a great peak in how the unit works! PUSH THIS MANS' VIDEOS RIGHT UP MY THROAT; WILL YA! Feedback on the video, since you tried some new cameras and lighting recently: Edits sometimes cut a bit too fast for my old eyes (but still well-placed at breaking points), and lighting at times was a bit dark, but the contrasts you got and the way the lighting worked was REALLY up-ing the bar of your videos, nice! The picture quality, especially during the intro/talking head is really amazing. Now my thoughts: These captures while you were playing them sounded really good! It's a nice and handy tool. I like that it has an interface functionality, I like that you the app is very versatile and can get you far. I love the fact that you create the captures on the device itself and it trains them on the spot. I like the transpose feature, it's neat. I like that it contains a chorus, a delay and a reverb. I do not like the fact that there is no boost block, even a capture block with lesser fidelity would be enough for boosts and overdrives. Most of them do not require the same amount of neural training as an amplifier. I do not like that according to all other videos we watched a year ago, that ToneX seemed to be a better capturing solution, and this is now 1,5 times the cost. I do not like the missing XLR output - easy to fix with a TRS to XLR adapter, but it's yet another thing you'd have to be aware to take with you, and depending on if the TRS is phantom-power-safe or not, take that into consideration as well. I have no idea if you can run dual outputs, one with an IR, one without. If not, that would be a major downside. It's not a bad product, or "disappointing" as some put it, but me having already a ToneX and a NAM Player, I'd have to pass on this. Would only make sense to create Amp captures to then sell them via a website or so, so currently there's no need for this for me.
iits just not the right price, yk? im not paying for any of nuerals amp modelling, so why is it still so expensive? nueral amp modeler and tonex one is way cheaper.
looking online trying to understand if it's possible to send to FOH (with speaker sim ON) and to an AMP RETURN without speaker sim (at the same time)? I was reading the manual on their site, seems theres no mention to this
Can't be done internally! No separate outputs, you have to somehow split with a buffered splitter in to a separete cab loader or a DI box at the end and use the thru to connect to onstage cabs. Cabsim bypassed on the nano.
Is it possible to assign the signal with ir to an output to run in to foh and assign the signal without the ir to another output in order to send it to a power amp and cab?
500 quid and having to use your phone? Neural... Come on! No power supply? Come on! Very little appeal here. KDH is right. Tonex makes way more sense, mooer, valeton have no capture stuff but are decent too. Great vid though Kyle.
There is no overdrive. You have to run pedal(s) before it. Not sure why they did that. AND you can't move anything in the chain, which is weird. I prefer my Noise Gate after my dirt. Can't do that on this. AND you can't run Plugins. For $550? That's a no from me. Hear me out, I have a better option. A few months I bought the Tonex One, and are running into a Boss MS-3 Multi Effects Switcher. I believe this is far a better option, and it's like $60 US more for both new than the Nano is. I have 3 loops, Midi, tuner, A SCREEN, LOL, a crazy amount of output options, can place anything wherever I want before and after loops. Has pretty much every boss pedal made to that point. IT HAS A METAL ZONE. LOL. I miss my old Metal Zone. It has about .5x larger footprint than the Nano. No big deal. Used MS-3's are like $350 on Reverb. I got my Tonex One for $150 on Reverb. $500? That's less than the nano with an insane amount more versatility. LOL.
Not a single device at this price point is running models like the plugins require so why would you expect this to? Used prices and prices of not at all similar products are pretty meaningless as well

Where you getting a quad for 1100$ ? They are 1700$.. most of those things you listed everyone already has laying around . I just picked up the nano and a HB GPA100 power amp and both were 640$ total
loving the Duol Rec capture! Thanks
You can capture you’re favourite drive pedal as I’ve just discovered 😮
You just got a new sub! LOVE the transparency about this being sponsored, love your unbiased opinion and thanks for the captures! I’ll be sure to use them when mine comes in!
Better off getting 3 of the Tonex One mini pedals and have a powerful mini signal chain of captures.
No midi control of the Tonex one so no. How many toe taps do you want to have to do to change back and forth.
The only thing i would of liked to see more is how the unit itself takes a boost in front of it.
Please tell us that's a joke...
Kyke, review the Soldano X88ir preamp so i can use your link to sweetwater when i buy it.
I'm gathering the platform to use it appears easy. If that's the case, I will look into selling my current rig and to pick up one of these, just for fun.
If ya still got the ampero stage lying around, try the beta firmware with the “Tone Catch” function 👀👀👀👀
Have u tried that?
This is an advertisement. He is not going to answer questions about competitors products.
Go sell that communist POS and buy something better that wasn't made by Chinese slaves.
I think a Micro Cortex at ~$750 that had 4 buttons, an effects loop and ability to add pedal captures in front of the amp captures would have probably been better. I’m just a home player though so take my bad opinions with a grain of salt 😅
Heck! I therefore demand pico and femto versions of it.
@@mohitrahaman haha, 1 button and a single input and output!! 😆
I was expecting to see you try a OD in front of the nano with a capture. Curious to see if a HM2 or swollen pickle will sound nice.
Ready for all the no fx loop comments
tbh something like this doesn't need an FX loop. Hell, you can put it IN the FX loop of a multi-FX unit, or treat it like a preamp pedal with built-in reverb and delay. TBH I think with units like this, including the NAM Player, and the ToneX/ToneX One, this is their best use case.
No Fx LoOp, It'S nO gOoD 😂🤣
Ohhhh noooooo!!!
I still own one and I think it's still a great sounding device.
speaker output of amp into passive DI box, speaker out of passive DI box into cab, DI out of DI Box into Capture in on Nano!
I still have my mooer preamp live too it is great I will never get rid of it even though I'm using synergy preamps primarily now.
@@belligerentamateur thanks bro.
So its just for captures? Obviously you can gain/eq the capture but no modeling right?
No OD option is crazy. Kind of a deal breaker imo.
I don’t think there’s enough of this of a difference to justify getting this too, I’ll just use my own delay and modulation with it and that’s it
Great video covering everything. Neural missed with this one. HX stomp makes more sense in this form factor.
So maybe I missed it but I have a question: I saw you capture the amp with a cabinet; did you then run your capture through a regular guitar cabinet without turning off any IR block? Sorry if it’s a silly question but I’m just trying to wrap my head around this capture process.
Thanks! Any chance of getting a capture of that VTM?
Love the ChadBall shirt!
Holy shit sounds great
It’s cool and all but it could never be a stand alone rig for most of us. I’ll stick with my mx5 for now, bc of the versatility and it can do what everyone’s complaining this thing can’t do. Basically this thing can pretty much only be used for the amps and to capture amps. Not worth it to me
if it was a QC with no screen and fewer buttons id be throwing money at it. however they cut too much out of it for me.
or even a qc with only amp and captures (id take it if it was only the neural amp models and a few pedal)
I'm getting one and i have the full size tonex pedal. use the tonex as the overdrive and just midi control everything
What pickup is in that guitar? Sounds killer
good ol SH-6 Distortion!
Thanks
I hope you can try an Engl, like Powerball or Fireball. It's the best distorsion i heard in my 30 years of playing metal.
@@florenttenryu5011 thanks man. My buddy has soo many damn amps that I get confused like I like that and that and that. Man a jcm800 2203 with an overdrive are pretty brutal as well. I mostly play with neural dsp, stl tones, mercuriall, and plugin Alliance amp sim mostly even though I have many others. Man the amp sim sound sick as well especially when adding mixing and mastering plugins in them. Have a good day
@@SilentScreamsStudios Yes, we are lucky to achieve good tones with digital or real amps. We can enjoy without spending a fortune. Have a nice day 🤟🤟
Did you do any of the captures with an OD or boost?
Everyone keeps complaining about the lack of boost... I'm just trying to move away from using my computer and I don't have an existing pedal board.. Do I just save for a Quad or is this thing misunderstood...? OR, not for a guy without a pedalboard...?
Did you just play Feathers by Coheed and Cambria?
Did my mans really just skirt past that "really coarse nipple" comment? 😭😭😭
Gonna get that new jb rail
I’m wondering if you can hook this up to a Seymour Duncan power stage and then power a cab
That's basically what I did here, just with the Quilter.
It really seems like they rushed this to market to beat the upcoming Fractal and Line 6 releases. It doesn’t even have amp models which are actually excellent on the Quad.
It does have some amp models on it tho
@@iconiconiconiconiconno, just captures, it’s different.
Ola >>
Did you capture with a boost pedal in the chain?
on some of them, yes
I’m one of those idiots.
Same 😂
Why did the “racist uncle” rock tone sound almost exactly like my main tone? 😭😭😭
If I were to only play distorter I could get whatever brand... nux? Bheringer ... whatever... I want to hear how it does with clean and edge of breakup... does it feel realistic?
These league of units and the like easily does that!
Dude... Taco bell is full of seed oil, It's literal poison
HELL YEAH
Lol ever heard of that killer seed oil 😆
It kinda seems like they spent more time on the app than they did on the capabilities of the unit. I ordered one but the more I learn the more I think I might return it and I don’t even have it yet
its nip picky but i hate that the ground lift button on the back isnt center xD
Now my thoughts:
These captures while you were playing them sounded really good!
I want to like it but mobile app only is a deal breaker. I need it on my PC. Gear that cost this much shouldn’t be based on a lame mobile app.
Dont worry they will fix the overdrive thing
How do you know? You got an inside scoop or just speculating? I hope they do or at least a second capture slot for overdrive captures.
Sure... three years from now.
plus my thought is they just figured most of us have a favorite overdrives to run in front of it instaid of just 1 generic one
looking online trying to understand if it's possible to send to FOH (with speaker sim ON) and to an AMP RETURN without speaker sim (at the same time)? I was reading the manual on their site, seems theres no mention to this
Can't be done internally! No separate outputs, you have to somehow split with a buffered splitter in to a separete cab loader or a DI box at the end and use the thru to connect to onstage cabs. Cabsim bypassed on the nano.
Is it possible to assign the signal with ir to an output to run in to foh and assign the signal without the ir to another output in order to send it to a power amp and cab?
What brand are those tube lights. Been wanting something like that
Govee - Amazon brand
@@belligerentamateur thanks will check it out
This is a game changer
So you mean if i watch icehockey, then i suddenly watching football instead?!
Any guitars for sale
Honestly, seems like a massive miss. this product is catering to just about no one. Has a poor feature set, bad advertising and no modelling... Big L
Does this pedal support bluetooth audio?
Gonna wait for the price to drop. And it will.
Too expensive for this
😂
500 quid and having to use your phone? Neural... Come on! No power supply? Come on!
Very little appeal here. KDH is right. Tonex makes way more sense, mooer, valeton have no capture stuff but are decent too. Great vid though Kyle.
different strokes! I personally love this and find it much easier to use for both captures and live than ToneX. It's great to have options!
So it's basically a more expensive, less good tonex? 😂
yes
Indeed 😅
Feathers 😉
just watched the intro... im scared
you say it can't capture or sound like a tube amp.... tbh...... it kinda did
5:33 🤣
Can you run a cab sim on one output and one without to a power amp/cab?
That's the question I ve been looking to be answered... Nothing in the manual that I can see.
Used prices and prices of not at all similar products are pretty meaningless as well
It's basically mimicking a regular head at a quarter of the price of the real thing. Use pedals like a head or go quad cortex.
amp simulator? to connect to Headrush direct
