I use cotton balls that have been soaked in Vaseline. They should be slightly greasy to the touch, not soaked. I put a handful of dry cotton balls in a ziploc with a spoon full of Vaseline and squish it around. Then heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm it up and the Vaseline will go all the way to the middle of the cotton. Add more cotton/Vaseline as needed. I keep them in a film container. You can soak them in water, squeeze out the water, fluff one or two out, and one spark.
Maybe sharpen the edges of that knife spine with a file in one spot and you'll throw a lot better sparks with way less effort. Love me some Emerson CQC-7s!
