Yes, the Templars and Assassins have similar means in the long run but if you play through AC I through Revelations completely, which is countless hours of gameplay, the differences of the two are engraved in your head. In AC III, you weren't supposed to know you were playing as a Templar; that was a major reveal to tell the audience the Templars now had an upper hand.
+Shady Doorags I'm finding it a lot more confusing since they got rid of Desmond, as the whole This-is-Templar-propaganda framing device means I'm now not sure whether what I'm seeing is supposed to represent actual history...
+Many A True Nerd that templar pro propaganda dosn't realy exist the game being produced by abstergo with the recordings of Edward aren't going to have any of the templar vs assassin thing ( it can be seen on the ads for the game showed in ac4) the templars use the recordings for 2 things 1-getting tec from the first civilazation that will help them controle everyone 2-build a game whithout having that assassin vs templar thing showend openly , they try to send mesagens but is in a mind control way, not in a propaganda way like u are thinking.
+Many A True Nerd I think we're supposed to take it as is -- in Black Flag, we're an Abstergo employee culling through the "real memories" in order to make the game (and find the Sage in Edward's memory), and in Unity you're working with the remaining members of Desmond's team.
Allow me to explain: In all respects, Assassins Creed Unity delivered EXACTLY what it promised. It had a new protagonist, in new time period, with vastly improved graphics and an updated parkour system. Nothing they did about that was wrong. The REASON why so many people were mad is that it wasn't polished at launch. Like at all. Basically, it was buggy and glitchfest galore. Unfortunately, because infamous initial release, ACU thus has a bad reputation for NOT WORKING AT LAUNCH. Was it rushed? Perhaps. Buts thats a discussion for later that really applies to the modern gaming industry as a whole. Overall, post-patch AC Unity *is* a good game. It's just the fact most people aren't going to see past the broken launch incident to realize it, or even acknowledge it.
Also, try not to rate low on memories. Here, "memories" means "levels". The developers are actually using that feedback to gauge which levels were actually fun, so that they know which ones to emulate in future games. I know it was probably a joke. But still, just letting you know lol
+Mas van Hulzen mts are stupid in full rpiced games that coupled with acus poor launch and frankly boring storyline makes me not want to play it. hoever acs may be the one mted game i forgive if they have a good story.
+Sébastien Poncelet Well if they're going to use the framing device of 'you're playing as a person playing a computer game', it's their own fault if I'm confused whether the rate memory function is for me to tell Ubisoft, or my character to tell his Helix...
+Many A True Nerd That's a slightly odd criticism I'd have to say. I'm just not fond of it because of the disconnection it creates in the narrative. It kind of reminds you you're playing a game.. Or a game within a game or whatever nonsense lol.

Hey , so I've been watching your videos and following your channel for a while. When it comes to what makes assassins creed games good , for me (as I can only speak for myself) it's about the lure and the story. The reason why most people who I played with didn't like it had to do with lure and sever glitches . Now John you know your history in some aspects , but I would invite you to learn more about who the assassins were as well as the Knights Templar/free Masonic order(which are two different sides to the same coin) . Although you will find that their order ended long before this games time line . I think the biggest thing for me and some of the people I talked with is the whole Elise and her I infiltrating the brotherhood. Another thing about the story is that Arno didn't deserve his title as an assassin. Arnold's training seemed halved ass and Arno didn't have the same drive as most of the assassins, it was like a bad assassins creed love story . I could go on but not enough.
It didn't feel right . You could also say the same for Edward kenway but Edwards story was more of a pirate sim and he became an assassin and wanted it . Shays story which I hope you get to play was great , I had no problem with it (I would suggest playing rogue ) . Also what I meant is by the order of the assassins being disbanded after being fucked up by the Mongols. The Templar order and Freemasons continue to this day. Now getting back to the subject I love this gaming franchise but the story felt weak and out of all the story's his seemed the most irrelevant and unnecessary to tell . Thanks for takeoff the time to read this !
I'm pretty certain rating the memories was a way of giving Ubisoft feedback, you should rate based on what missions you liked instead of what happened to your character.
I just finished this and had a great time with it. It got patched, there's some minor visual issues but that was it. It's really unfair that people still criticize it so much. It's a gorgeous city with tons of great locations, it's very atmospheric, a ridiculous number of quests, and the main story's pretty decent, I loved it.
Jon I don't think many Americans would like throwing the tea I mean in America you learn so much about American history it just becomes a chore to hear about again or do it.
Apart from the glitches and the micro-transactions...i love the game! I love the parkour, the story is pretty good, and the customisability was amazing.
For those of you that don't get the joke, the "rate this memory" system is the game's mission rating system so Ubisoft can work out what players do and don't like. Jon has taken the term literally and saying "yes that was a bad memory".
+Many A True Nerd What ever happened to the Jaunty Irish music?! Also you're funny as hell and I love your content, keep up the good work! much love from the US of A!
when a company incites preorders with exclusive content (1 item out of 4 depending on the store, and a preorder-exclusive mission, 2 if you take the collector's edition) and the game is unplayable on launch, then yes, you're entitled to hate them forever. Anyway, if you like the game, good for you.
There are a few occasions where you get to use the pieces of eden as a weapon throughout the series. for instance, you used the sword at the beginning of this.
i think most people complained about this game, besides the bugs, was that it was more of the same. the reason you are enjoying this one so much is you haven't played all the others to completion. i agree with you that Unity had great characters and setting, but after doing the exact same things over and over for the last 6 games, it's gotten old for some of us. btw great job on your videos.
You need to do a Fallout Week the week before Fallout 4 comes out. 1, 2, maybe skip 3 and New Vegas since you played them so much, but play the spin-offs like Tactics, Brotherhood of Steel, and Shelter.
+JoshBadWriter that wouldnt be a fallout week then theres 7 games so seven days worth of content what he could do is play fallout 3 and new vegas as if he was building a character that was a result of their circumstances so fallout 3 youd build a guntoting goody too shoes who has the same skils as dad or the courier who got lucky so an endurance luck build and who basically fights for independance from the tyranny of the entire mojave. ti call them logic builds you build your character as if they were a result of the games story/
I will say though Ubisoft really did try to make amends for how horrible the release version was. I mean after remaking an entire city in the game and patching it in says a lot for both respect for the devs and hatred towards them. Now that I'm seeing this, it may be time to give it a shot finally.
The game was so buggy it wasen't even funny at release. That left people with a very negative first impression. The game would likely have been at least okey (or even good) without all the bugs. Not sure how buggy it is currently.
+GaratghDeloi I would agree - but it feels like people are really holding that launch against what now, in its finished state, seems like a reasonable entry into the franchis...
+GaratghDeloi It's still pretty damn buggy. I played the patched version last week. Highlights include Arno climbing onto air and NPCs handing things to other NPCs that aren't there.
+Many A True Nerd It's what you get when the fallacy of first impressions is coupled with the internets tendency to rate things slightly lacking of perfection as total shite. Disclaimer: I don't claim Unity is near perfect, not having played it. I only mean it seems that mob opinion has no middle ground between perfection and garbage.
+Many A True Nerd Well, it was arguably one of the poorest launches in a series of high profile poor launches about that time. I think the end result was that the public essentially decided to hold such releases against the game to discourage the trend from continuing; if you release a broken game, you don't get sales on it. Imagine you were one of the people to get it on day one. How long did you have to wait for the patch that just made the game playable? That sort of thing cannot be ignored, and the game lives in infamy. It is symptomatic of bigger issues, and while it may now be a decent game the developer betrayed the trust of its audience. This makes the entirety of the game seem like a mere cash grab, and makes one understandably hypercritical. This is especially bad when you consider that devotees of the franchise who pre-ordered were the ones hardest hit, and would rather blame the game than the franchise or conpany.
I think that the non-bug issues (as well as plenty of the bug ones) were neatly encapsulated in the Zero Punctuation review. I haven't actually played the game, but the issues he brought up seemed like they'd be annoying.
I'm currently playing through Black Flag, which is great fun, and I've been debating playing Unity. (They were both free downloads when I bought my Xbox One.) Having watched this, I think I will definitely play Unity once I'm done with Black Flag. Well, in all likelihood, I'll play Black Flag until Fallout 4 is released, and then at some point in the future I'll pick up Unity and eventually Syndicate. Still, thanks so much for doing this week of Assassins Creed games!
I was lucky because I didn't get any bugs during Unity (kinda sucks cuz I wanted to see no face people) so I don't have that to ruin my judgment. While Arno isn't my favorite assassin he not the worst and his story was decent. I did like that the series returned to uts roots of beinf in a dense city with lots of stuff to climb and finally after 6 games we get a real stealth option. Unity is my 5th favorite game in the AC series and im glad Syndicate took the good things from it and improved them while fixing the issues it had.
That's the in-game reason The real reason is: 1) Much of their western audience (specifically US) doesn't take the French accent seriously 2) They probably got lazy and didn't feel like re-recording Either way, both reasons are bs
13Kr4zYAzN13 it's an acceptable excuse given that there's more behind it but it is odd that it isn't always the case. It'd be hilarious if the protagonists in syndicate had Indian accents because the person in the animus is Indian.
I'm very sad TH-cam no longer uses the stars to rate video, it'd have been very meta if at the end you wanted us to rate the memory. "1 out of 5, would not allow crazy secret societies to hijack my subconscious again"
Well Jon, keep playing it. At the point you're at now, I was quite enjoying it as well. But eventually the combination of performance problems on PC (even though I have a GTX 980), uninteresting story (both in Revolutionary France and in the present day), and combat that gets just unforgiving and frustrating at higher difficulty missions made me give up on it. I certainly enjoyed climbing around the beautiful Parisian architecture and some of the side missions, but this was the only AC game I never finished. And I thought 3 was pretty awful.
+Chris Cinco three was bad but the [resent day sutff was neccessary to the story a story that should of died with desmond and the fuutre parts should be followed on in only the assassins as comics and films not ingames forcing you out of the action into these crappo stuff.
It's not just that it was too buggy at launch, I played it 1,5 months after release and after 4 patches worth 40 Go of data and I thought it was not even sealable. So I couldn't even imagine what the game looked like at launch.
So, interesting thing by the way MoTN: You actually have played an assassin's creed game, that wasn't framed and marketed as one. It's been pointed out just recently that events from Black Flag, coincide with some of those in Watch Dogs. There's also symbolism, names, locations and other details that heavily suggest that the main character in Watch Dogs is an Assassin in modern day times, acting outside of the events of Abstergo and separately of the events involving Desmond and the Abstergo development programs.
in terms of gameplay unity is one of the best in the series (after patches) my main problem is the story i hated most of the characters Arno doesn't give a crap about the assassins until the the final cut scene and 90% of his actions are motivated by him trying to get into Elise's pants a girl who if she thought it would help her get revenge for her father would kill Arno in a heart beat. The only character i liked was Belic, he had a lot of potential but he was underused
"Just breaking up as many couples as I can, here."You are the nun at every school dance I have ever been to. All that's missing is you saying "leave room for the holy spirit."
Hated this game, had no replay value. And the French Revolution was like in the background, Arno didn't have any part in it really. Bought it for €70, beat it in 3 days and then traded it back in. (Oh and Hibernia isn't Britain, it was the name the Romans gave Ireland.)
+Gaming One Oh One black flag looked amazing on the 360 and even better on the ps4 but this wa so graphically great that i think the ngine couldnt handle it hence why it was broken.
Gaming One Oh One this was built for the next generation consoles hence why it looks amazing syndicate is clearly built for the current gen and as such should be sound and hopefully not as buggy of a mess that unity was. if its good ill ignore the mts and play syndicate but ill wait a few days after launch to see if its any good.
Without having played the game, I'm assuming that Elise's father knew of Arno's father and at some point told Elise that he was an assassin? That's my guess, anyway.
She made the assumption that you are a assassin mainly since your father was a assassin and she think you was responsible for her fathers murder. Thinking that you killed her father she likely made the assumption that you knowing that your father was a assassin and her father was a templar (likely being involved or directly responsible for your fathers death).
I didnt play this one yet because the pc-port seems to be broken still, but werent microtransactions also a major criticism? I recall something along the lines of: "pay x amount of money to open this crate". Imagine seeing that after you bought like a 90 bucks special edition or something
I love ACU, Its just that at release it was so buggy, still is to a degree, but gameplay, the assassin vs templar plot was fun, the setting was fun as well. I do recommend you play AC Rogue, its a great new perspective on the whole assassin/templar different view points.
We are in agreement, Jon. This game is harder than the others and they didn't do EVERYTHING right, but I still enjoyed it would still say "It is a good game."
If you are building a castle to fend against a group of par-core masters why would you not make the entire thing a flat edifice with no hand or foot holds?
+raymond smith I would assume that is because castles are meant to stop armies, not individuals. Your normal armored soldier wouldn't have any chance to get up or down. As for why there are holds, I assume something to do with the construction process being imperfect and creating those eddies.
+QC_J Isn't it conceivable that they would eventually have to face an army of Assassins? Not to mention what he was climbing up was windows and decorations on the wall, not any rough hewn stones.
My guess is you would have to assume that assassination would come from within rather than outside. As for in this game, window and decoration, suggests that it may not have been intended to defend against attack entirely. It could have been re-purposed, I'm not sure. You'll need to point out which castle and building specifically you are referring to in the video.
I think that game, at release, had a lot of issues, but these were fixed later, I played the game not long ago and thought it was fine. A very beautiful game in many ways.
i got the game awhile after release and by then they had fixed the bugs. In my opinion Unity is my favorite (but i haven't played AC Syndicate yet, so possibly second favorite when i play it).
People bashed on Unity because of its sloppy release. Personally, I played the game only a few months after, when most of the bugs had been fixed and I found the game to be really damn enjoyable! Actually, I loved it! The problems that brought so much criticism to the game don't exist anymore. Of course, for the people who don't like the story or the characters, this is a matter of personal preferences and no patch could ever change that.
Is the bleeding effect still there? Because if so the templars have just given like millions of people the ability to kill, fight and flee with ease. Crime must be skyrocketing.
The game was absolutely terrible at release because of the bugs which in most cases made the game unplayable, I think the game had a lot more potential but the state of release ruined a lot of people's impression of unity. Now the game is in a state where, even though there are common bugs, its nothing game breaking and you can enjoy the game because it is honestly quite a good entry in the franchise. I'd say there are a few positives: The combat is such an improvement (at least in the early game before you unlock these overpowered weapons). There is a lot of customisation for your character which is always nice to have. And some characters like Arno and Elise are at least competition for the better games in the franchise because they're actually likeable, Unlike psycho Haytham and grumpy/no emotion Connor. (You can sort of understand why altair was so serious and he has a few redeeming moments in revelations).
You want to talk about the gameplay and the plot not being synchronized? Try ACIII, where the very first time I could freely move around the map with Connor I went to one of the open sidemissions which was something to do with British camps nearby. After I killed everybody, Connor suddenly took out an American flag out of his pocket and replaced the British one on the mast. At this point in the story, Connor hadn't even met anyone with American loyalties, how the hell did he not only have a bunch of American flags in his pocket but also had the presence of mind to replace the British ones with them?! This is an example of the first category of problems I previously mentioned as the reason I hate ACIII: lack of effort in gameplay. It would have been quite easy to close off those sidemissions until a little more of the story had unfolded. Instead, the gameplay mechanic made no sense and had no resonance with the plot.
apart from constant flying (instead of jumping) and leg twitching, more glitches than ever and eagle vision that shows you everything and MASSIVE LACK OF BOATS it's an OK game
Jon, you weren't there at launch. My god. 10 FPS on consoles. Microtransactions. They were horrible days. But yeah since then I would say it's improved greatly. And besides those issues that were there, it was a fairly good game.
+Kyle Finlayson mts to be fair are still there. they cant exactly remove them for no reason.its intertwined in the game now wiht ac syndicate they could games not out would be easy to push game back a week and fix the mts issue and getthe game out for the 30th.
To be honest, I liked Unity except the multiplayer issues and the bad optimisation. It was a fun game . Assasin's Creed Rogue as last video or Syndicate? Liberations?. ?

the templars use the recordings for 2 things
1-getting tec from the first civilazation that will help them controle everyone
2-build a game whithout having that assassin vs templar thing showend openly , they try to send mesagens but is in a mind control way, not in a propaganda way like u are thinking.

I just switched the language to French. That helped with the whole "French brits" issue.
I SPECIFICALLY played through the game in French.
The idea of the French FREAKIN Revolution with British accents just didn't sit well with me lol
It bothered me more then it should
+heinekencobra then why do they have British accents? we know that the animus can translate into foreign accents because of Ezio and Italy
Jon, "rate this memory" is for Ubisoft to know if you enjoyed the mission or not x)

I've just realized that Ubisoft really likes giving their AC protagonists ponytails... I like it.
16:07 - "There's no entrance" .. "There's literally no door." He says, standing on top of the massive hatch leading into the attic. :')
Do a vídeo series on Black Flag!

A: Emergency nativity supplies of course
Apart from the glitches and the micro-transactions...i love the game! I love the parkour, the story is pretty good, and the customisability was amazing.
What a brilliant choice for an assassin's creed game. Paris- like London but with the French
For those of you that don't get the joke, the "rate this memory" system is the game's mission rating system so Ubisoft can work out what players do and don't like. Jon has taken the term literally and saying "yes that was a bad memory".

FYI At launch the game had a bunch of chests in the main game that you could only open by playing the companion app for a while.

I've been enjoying this week's series. I played Unity many months post launch, so also did not experience the bugs that plagued the game at launch.
"I don't see why nobody likes this game"
"no no, don't do that, damn these controls"
"this game is great, I don't see why it's unpopular"
*facepalm*
+Ian Ross all the time.
This parkour is ridiculous, you are fucking floating between holds and ledges. Fucking insane.
since when has AC's parkour ever been realistic? and there was plenty of flying in 3 and 4 which are the ones i played.
1 and 2, so yeah you played the float games.
Jon in the 16th minute there was a trapdoor in the attic the couple was in.
+A Gannuss I've been chatting to Mattophobia tonight - sounds like the PC version is still far from perfect...
Im not entirely sure, but "Ward" may mean something similar to indentured servant, or apprentice.
If you played Rouge you would know that the guy you played as controlling the animus became a Templar after the company told him.
Still, thanks so much for doing this week of Assassins Creed games!
its a rate fore the developers to know what is working or not
I was lucky because I didn't get any bugs during Unity (kinda sucks cuz I wanted to see no face people) so I don't have that to ruin my judgment.
Those stand up chandeliers are called candelabra. I did know that I didn't just do a five minute google search. Also la tutelle is ward in french.
In the attic with the couple there was a hatch in the floor
The animus changes people's dialects to match the vernacular of the person in the animus. And that is the reason for the English accents
Also you don't have to hold the "legs" button to sprint.
+theDefault But why didn't it make it in an American accent/dialect for Desmond?
+Jammo fuck if I know. That's the explanation given in the first game's manual
That's the in-game reason
The real reason is:
1) Much of their western audience (specifically US) doesn't take the French accent seriously
2) They probably got lazy and didn't feel like re-recording
Either way, both reasons are bs
13Kr4zYAzN13 it's an acceptable excuse given that there's more behind it but it is odd that it isn't always the case. It'd be hilarious if the protagonists in syndicate had Indian accents because the person in the animus is Indian.
I'm very sad TH-cam no longer uses the stars to rate video, it'd have been very meta if at the end you wanted us to rate the memory. "1 out of 5, would not allow crazy secret societies to hijack my subconscious again"
Please make a AC2 Series
Pls play more I want to see more
How would this be the worst Assassin's Creed? III and IV Black Flag exist...
It's painful to see him not realising the usefulness of the "parkour down" button.
You could make a rudimentary flash grenade with some magnesium, couldn't you? It's possibly still a bit early for that.
"Small technical issues"... Small is definitely the word I would use for this game Kappa
You should probably cover NWA's seminal classic; I'd certainly buy Flip Da Popo anyway.
in terms of gameplay unity is one of the best in the series (after patches) my main problem is the story i hated most of the characters Arno doesn't give a crap about the assassins until the the final cut scene and 90% of his actions are motivated by him trying to get into Elise's pants a girl who if she thought it would help her get revenge for her father would kill Arno in a heart beat. The only character i liked was Belic, he had a lot of potential but he was underused
So happy i can watch more AcU tomorrow :D
"Just breaking up as many couples as I can, here."You are the nun at every school dance I have ever been to. All that's missing is you saying "leave room for the holy spirit."
Hated this game, had no replay value. And the French Revolution was like in the background, Arno didn't have any part in it really. Bought it for €70, beat it in 3 days and then traded it back in.
(Oh and Hibernia isn't Britain, it was the name the Romans gave Ireland.)
Gotta admit though, this game looks beautiful. a lot more than Black flag, smoother and more colorful, and the shadows are very detailed.
+Gaming One Oh One black flag looked amazing on the 360 and even better on the ps4 but this wa so graphically great that i think the ngine couldnt handle it hence why it was broken.
Soraking007
Yeah, it is many steps above the previous titles.
Gaming One Oh One this was built for the next generation consoles hence why it looks amazing syndicate is clearly built for the current gen and as such should be sound and hopefully not as buggy of a mess that unity was. if its good ill ignore the mts and play syndicate but ill wait a few days after launch to see if its any good.
so why was there no rogue?
I did just stumble across this series I'm a little confused
jon you didn't get to boats in 4, they massively change the formula
we got Italian Ezio, Pirate Ezio, and now French Ezio, I wonder how the character you play as is like compared to Ezio
I'd like to see you play Assassin's Creed: Rogue
Just going to point out, the main character from AC Rogue, Shay, is the man who kills Arno's dad.
AC3s Boston Tea Party was not the most exciting thing, but the real start to that revolution seems to be Lexington and Concord.
I didnt play this one yet because the pc-port seems to be broken still, but werent microtransactions also a major criticism? I recall something along the lines of: "pay x amount of money to open this crate". Imagine seeing that after you bought like a 90 bucks special edition or something
those are present, yes
3:35 excuse me Jon Hibernia is Ireland not Britain lol
Wish you played Rouge also
I love ACU, Its just that at release it was so buggy, still is to a degree, but gameplay, the assassin vs templar plot was fun, the setting was fun as well. I do recommend you play AC Rogue, its a great new perspective on the whole assassin/templar different view points.
I think you were looking for the word Bourgeoisie most of the time.
We are in agreement, Jon. This game is harder than the others and they didn't do EVERYTHING right, but I still enjoyed it would still say "It is a good game."
What, a planet side 2 update. Community planet side 2 day??
Unity has been my favorite game for playing
As the assassin, you actually get to use the awesome sword at the end of the game
The patch for this game was so absurd
Standing on door: where's the entrance to this attic
Please do a lets play of Brotherhood or Black Flag!
+QC_J A lokal medieval tower has these too but I am not sure if they weren't caused later by renovations
+QC_J I was talking about the first one, when the Templar propaganda was playing. I had not considered that the castle would have been re-purposed.
I think that game, at release, had a lot of issues, but these were fixed later, I played the game not long ago and thought it was fine. A very beautiful game in many ways.
Assassin and a Templar, Montagues and Capulets! But no banging tunes or DJ sets :-(
i got the game awhile after release and by then they had fixed the bugs. In my opinion Unity is my favorite (but i haven't played AC Syndicate yet, so possibly second favorite when i play it).
I would like to have a slight loss of health after a leap of faith
I'd say there are a few positives:
The combat is such an improvement (at least in the early game before you unlock these overpowered weapons).
14:35 Whoa......
Jon just said "the popo". I can't with you, sometimes, Jon, my man. :D
apart from constant flying (instead of jumping) and leg twitching, more glitches than ever and eagle vision that shows you everything and MASSIVE LACK OF BOATS it's an OK game
Hey jon if u play ac rouge u find out how arnos dad dies
why you skip ac rouge
