- Assassin's Creed: Origins is, as you might expect, an Assassin's Creed game, but this we've gone right back to the beginning, when falconry, archery, and pyromania were the chief tools of our Egyptian assassin...

Well, well Jon, wether you're in Total War or Assasins Creed, you will always burn something in Siwa.
I like how the 'confirm the kill' stance was essentially you teabagging the corpse. Also, bring on the Witcher 2 & 3!
Please keep playing Jon. I would love to see you play this game. You almost always decide to do the unusual option and actually take your time learning the lore and structure of this world. Too many youtubers have just run through it.
"Oh I can burn these cobwebs with my light thing"
Jon 2018
The trees you keep insisting you could get wood from are palm trees mate. They are incredibility flexible to the point that hurricane force winds won't snap them. This means that they are a terrible building material as you want a hard wood for that.
Wouldn't flexible trees be good for building houses out of tho? Or am I just an idiot
I'm not sure a house being flexible is a good thing, it just seems like something would get damaged by it bending.
I've actually just looked it up, apparently if you dry it out the wood becomes quite strong so for use in building a house it's fine. Though I think this might very based on the kind of palm. It takes a while for wood to dry out even in a desert. I doubt the character has the time to waste on cutting trees down and drying them.
For some reason my brain was saying "bendy wood? tthen the house won't collapse GENIUS"
How are you seriously having difficult spelling wood? Lol
Because what I was going to say changed half way through and I didn't catch the homophones when I redid the sentences.
Comeon Jon, you're a history buff, you should know that Ptolemy wasn't Roman.
Ptolemy also did dress like an Egyptian. His dynasty was really into being Greek.
@@S0m35uy From 1000bce onwards egypt wasn't ruled by egyptians anymore. With a very brief interlude that was quickly corrected by persia. Nubians, Persians, Greeks and romans mainly. But all but the romans played cultural and religious ball with the Pharao thing. At least on the outside. It was the single most prestigious title in the ancient world.
The romans, after cleopatra's death ended that and made it a normal province.
cairo, jon? so you know classical rome and greece, but fell asleep when class got to egypt, yes?
After watching a few of Jon’s videos I have concluded that Jon is capable as a gamer, that he is capable at commentary but he is quite terrible at both. He manages to miss so many easy prompts that it manages to boggle me. But I feel that it is part of his charm .
Welcome to MATN, where everything's made up and perception doesn't matter!
Fans of a series have higher expectations than casuals so naturally they will have more complaints when things go wrong.
they will also complain abou the good things, they will complain about anything these days if a game isnt EXACTLY what they imagine it would be.
What does Jon and the guards have in common? They both have -1 perception.
Jon...you missed the best part....you can pet cats and make them follow you for a while
"I really like the Assassin's creed games!"
*few seconds later
"'I've never completed one, I always lose interest before the end."
Uhhh... Ok....
Ross D that’s why he said that he liked them instead of saying that he loved them because they are usually good to ok games but you lose interest before the end
Typical Yes, but he also said it's like it's more than others, and even enjoyed Unity (making Jon one of the exclusive few who did). Even still, I'm just point out an interesting incongruity.
Ross D I liked Unity too!
Ross D personally I remember liking unity but i was quite young at the time and I was playing to with my brother (who I get on with very well) so both of those things definitely clouded my judgement a bit or I might even be thinking about a different assassins creed game (it was quite a while ago and around that time my brother was renting/buying a lot of assassins creed games)
I don't have to finish all games i like. You ca have fun as long as you have and then move on.
Having said this, i finished all AC games except Syndicate. I was too bored without a real a story and the completely ruined climbing system.
Not even two minutes in and the torch is casting a shadow of itself? Cool.
It feels when people try to hate on origins it’s simply because it’s almost always because of the previous games and have never actually played it(not talking about Jon, it’s just something I’ve noticed)
I've played it and can thoroughly say. RPG mechanics DO NOT WORK. In assassins creed. In any other AC game when Jon went to drop kill that guy he woulda died. Why? Because there weren't RPG mechanics messing verything up
SomeIdiotWithAGame I quite liked the RPG mechanics. It allows for an open world that still has a structure by putting higher level enemies in later zones and prevents access much better and in a much more natural way than a big animus wall ever did. And the abilities all felt different and unique. The only generic ones are supposed to be ones that you sink extra points into once you’ve acquired all the other abilities. Finally the side quests and rewards from said side quests where pretty good and we’re mostly different from the “go here, assassinate this guy”. I remember following around a street brawler for example and having a bunch of street brawls in his name before having a final fight with him against a number of opponents at once. I found it rather entertaining and a nice break from running around and looting tombs and outposts.
but that' isn't assassins creed. I love RPGs don't get me wrong but AC should not be turned into an RPG. The reason areas were locked off by big animus wall made sense in lore and in gameplay tho so I saw no problem with it
SomeIdiotWithAGame true it made sense and worked but what this game did was a straight improvement to it in my opinion. Also the ac formula is so over used now. Every game played the same, every game felt the same, and the new gimmick each game added was either like the zip line, taking away as much as it added, or it is a well done gimmick that never really added and evolved the series. Also did you play unity and syndicate? Both of those games had RPG mechanics and they were still very traditional assassins creed games
Thank you for making me feel incredibly good about my first time playing this. Also thank you for your awesome wit.
I really wish you would do a full playthrough of this. I think it's the best in the series. I loved it.
Hey, camels are perfectly noble!
Justin Kroboth they spit a lot that doesn't feel very noble
Michael Switzer Camels are awesome! 🐪
This game is set before the Assassins' and Templars exist, Jon.
Yeah, Jon seems to not know that. I, however, have 140 hours in Origins, now playing The Hidden Ones DLC, know this game.
Is Bayek even a "proper" assassin? He has the hidden blade and missing finger, robes are kinda similar, but he never says he's an assassin. Or am I just not far enough in the game?
Pepsi Ipep It's last 5 mins of main quest, and the new DLC where the Assassins' Exist.
Pepsi Ipep they don't really become proper assassins until the very end/the dlc
Most of the game is subtle setup to the assassins, or as they're known in the game "the hidden ones"
alright thanks
You need to hold the button to call your mount!
I love this game! So I'm really happy you played it!!
On a sidenote: This is "Origins". Means there are no Assassin's as of yet. And no romans for a while.
This game is historically accurate, as far as the Egyptian culture goes. The History of Egypt podcast went over the game in a special December episode "Assassin's Creed"Origins:Egyptological Impressions.(Show is hosted by Egyptian Archaelogist Dominick Perry). Your character is a Magi, which was a roaming tribe that eventually became a sheriff-like group
I've also never finished an Assassins Creed game. I just sort of lose interest after a while. There's not enough emotional investment... or reward, maybe? I'm not sure what it is. :/ I want to love Origins though! Give me the motivation, Jon!
Same, plus it gets really repetitive after a while
"Time to get the bird out"
Jon, 2018
you'd be supprised how accurate the history is in assassins creed. i remember doing really well in american history for awhile because i kept remembering things i found out while playing ac3
KaneHammer agreed
and they say video games are bad and don't help you in school
The guards appalling eyesite matches up with your appalling perception, Jon. So, it all balances out in the end.
I love this franchise and this game
Yay Jon is playing Assassins creed again
Nobody hates Assassins Creed more than Assassins Creed fans
Sounds like you've been taking notes from Star Wars fans haha
I saw Assassin's Creed and for some fucking reason I thought, "oh, hey, Prince of Persia", and I was fucking stoked. Took me a minute to figure it out.
Is anyone else screaming HOLD DOWN ON THE D PAD?
"there are these things called trees, they're everywhere" ....err, u r in egypt, they literally conquered lebanon to get the cypress wood because they needed it, it's all desert, so no... no wood
Not "Historically Accurate" just "Based on a True Story", but good luck proving it one way or the other.
Please make this a series!
Jon I remember you said you would do a assassins creed 2 or unity series after all the big releases came out. But it's not too late
Yassssss I’ve beeenn asking for thissssssssss.
I have wanted to see this game on the Chanel for a while. Not because it is an Assassins Creed game but to see if Jon's egg shell finally cracks because Ubisoft tries to combine Greek, Roman, and Egyptian culture all into one game.
In the period the game is set Greek, Roman, and Egyptian culture were all in Egypt. It's not an attempt to combine them, it really happened.
I know that but still a part of me wanted to see him fall into as state of madness as they tried to recreate that time period. I can not be the only person who enjoyed his tangents on Hellenic cultures over the year(s).
Does this mean a continuation of the assassins creed syndicate play through ?
The game is pretty bug free, just a couple of floating things were all I noticed. But if you do see anything odd you can just put it down to a glitch in the animus.
Safetytrousers This game is the only one I've ever played which recovered from a freeze.
He is the Popular Front of Judea
We got to do murder to learn how murder works
MANY A TRUE NERD 2018
Oh Jon, back at it again with the good games
YES. I've been waiting and hoping you'd play this game I really, really hope it gets turned into a series... it's such a good game. So much to do. Please please please do a series. This supplanted the Fallout games atop my perch for my personal favorite game of all-time.
This is weird... I only ever played Assasins Creed 1 and I loved it. But the gameplay seems to have changed a lot from the original game. This feels more like a Farcry with climbing.
Teh Weh ac1 came out over 10 years ago
Isaac Yeah. What's your point?
Monday Green of course the gameplay is going to be different from a game that came out over a decade ago
Isaac But that doesn't mean it has to deviate from the original vision. The (relatively) new Doom game is incredibly faithful to the originals in terms of gameplay, despite Doom II having been released 12 years prior.
Same here, just recently played Unity (and like Jon found it to be OK, not great, but enjoyable and I had the luck to have a friend along for the coop missions) and Syndicate and with both lost interest about half way in. Sadly length is one of the things people expect to get out of games when it would really be good for the AC games to tighten their story telling a bit.
You might like Rogue or liberation then as they are much more condensed narratives. Most of the hate for Unity comes from the fact that it was broken at launch and Ubisoft took moinths to make the game playable. Unity also added microtransations to the campaign which raised concerns of Ubisoft slowing progression to make the microtranscations more tempting.
Unity had a story. Syndicate has "liberate 30 areas" The end. Just for the sake of it. Origins has this vibe in the midgame. But it's buid into an actual story which then comes back.
I've loved every one I've played (all but Liberations) and 2 is still my favourite. Origins is so far up there though! Possibly 2nd or 3rd favourite. The story, the characters, the gameplay. All brilliant! You could say I'm a fanboy, therefore a bit biased towards the series but it's still a fantastic game!
Adam English agreed
Honestly Jon, the ending of Assassin's Creed games are always a little flat because there's a gimmick to the series that always pops up to hijack the ongoing story of the past to try and connect everything in with a "main" storyline which ultimately went nowhere. I won't spoil them because the twists are genuinely hilarious and from out of nowhere, but it's the same twist for like 5 or 6 games in a row. Not exactly riveting, but not really a detriment to the overall enjoyment of the gameplay either. It's like the ending to Mass Effect 3. It may be a mark against the franchise but I'll be damned if I don't play through the series every so often until that last hour and a half.
*A S S A S S I N S C R E E D I S A G O O D F R A N C H I S E*
I still can't decide should I buy this game or not, so thank you Jon for this video!
I really only liked black flag out of the series. Unsurprising, because I have a mad love for all things Pirate. But I love watching Jon play just about any game, so away we go!
Is this guy the beast master how can he just see what the hawk sees
Michael Switzer cause they brought the wildlands people to this game and the idiots have to have a drone cause they dont know what else to do
Because it's a videogame game
Ubisoft wanted campy fun over serious explanations for pinging enemies. And because they though eagle vision should be the vision of an eagle.
I'm not saying it's not cool or useful it's just a nit pick of mine to think what is it relaying the info the bird sees to the guy it's not like it just lands and tells him all the stuff lol
rikacomedyletsplays
Just no, wrong on many levels.
series! series! series! You could make this the first Assassin's Creed you finish!
Make this a series Jon! Please :)
Playing this right now, finish the game Jon!!
This should be a series, at least give this game another 2 or 3 episodes as this game really gets going
heres 1 4 ya seeing as u have the dlc at the start after completing siwa and just b 4 u meet ur wife teleport to sinai and u get the assassins gear u don't have to do anything but teleport there then back to siwa.
AC Origins..looking in with glee. You made Fallout 4 much more fun to play xx lol
Jon, are you going to play Kindom Come: Deliverance when it's released?
I'm a bit confused by the bird. Are you in the animus? Did one of your ancestors have intimate relations with a bird? This is what I get for playing 1 and 2 and then dropping the series when I realized it was going to go on forever and the plot was never going to resolve.
Hmm... I'm not sure if RPG mechanics work in Assassin's Creed game. Like, you are jumping down on a guy's head from 5 or 6 meters and after that he just brushes off the dust and kills you... And that's just because of his level was highier than yours. But that's still just my personal opinion.
tREX13470 Well isn't that ALL rpg games kinda...? Rubberbanding and such
Yes, kind of. But in AC it makes less sense for me than in the other games... To me, AC was a searies kind of grounded in reality(not entierly of course, but in some little ways), and Origins got rid of that part.
Unity had a toned down RPG system, and I'd say it worked pretty damn well. You could still take on lvl 5 right away if you've learned your basics of CQC, it's just that if you've missed one strike you'll be erased out of existence, have your game deleted, system corrupted and your CPU will melt.
Completely agree.
I absolutely hate the Level System. Even the cheapest village guard is immortal if your level is too low.
It's by a long distance the dumbest idea ever in an AC game.
Still, the story is good. And the world is stunning. And at least they didn't slow the leveling with grind. It's relatively quick.
I have the same relationship with this franchise. Love the concept. Game play is generally solid at its core... I have however finished one: Black Flag. I got really invested in that story and being a pirate was too fun to put down... but generally I’ll 100% a game, never done that with any AC game, all of them without exception just have way too much uninteresting filler material...
Assassin's Creed is a franchise that I don't like that much. A lot of the missions are boring and repetitive, all the recollection stuff from black flag ruins the immersion for me.
But, this video made me reconsider the franchise. Thanks, Jon!
Please. Please. Please. Do a series. I love AC and this game is amazing.
Egyptians, Jon. EGYPTIANS!
There are camel beauty contests that are seriously competitive in reality.
I feel we need a many a true fan.
As in Unofficial highlights cubed with Dan. I feel that no one knows what i mean.
For the Unity comment: Unity felt really bad for a lot of people because of 2 reasons. One is that almost anything would feel bad coming off Black Flag. The other is that it had BAD performance issues for quite a while after launch.
this game gets so good. I think you should play this a bit more!
As someone that has beaten the game watching you play is infringing.
Infringing on what? I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Caleb Boerner auto correct mint to be infuriating
Ubisoft games shouldn't have levelling systems I feel, this and The Division are just nonsense.
Division more so considering it's set in a "real" world and you have boss enemies that you need to shoot in the head like 500 times...because magic I guess.
I see no benefit to it at all, just makes their games even more grindy and annoying...BUT HEY YOU CAN BUY STUFF TO MAKE IT FASTER, make our game more fun by paying to skip deliberately boring parts.
Ikr. I mean a normal guard should not be still standing after stabbing him like ten or more times just because he's high level.
+Radabit T Yeah that just actively makes me _not_ want to play the game because it ruins half the appeal of it...
*Game*: "You want to do an epic aerial assassination from a tower? SORRY this one random guard lifted some weights today so your sharp pointy metal is useless"
*Victim of stupidity*: "Oh, well I guess he's some important dude who has plot armour and will be relevant later"
*Game*: "Nope, he is just some normal dude, you need to go find 30 treasure chests and enhance your magic level because...just do it alright, do it and enjoy it"
You really need to play subnautica Jon
Jon, if their icon is red they are too tough for you to take on. If it’s a skull instead of a number you can’t even hurt them.
Outfits are cosmetic, you need to upgrade your gear in the crafting menu to get better armor. Horses and camels from the stables are also cosmetic.
Supplies are carried around by the Greeks (which is who you’re fighting btw, not the Romans, you’ll meet the Romans later). Later you can find some nice choke points on roads and just kill all the supply parties that come through.
The weird rolling around after takedowns is because you haven’t got your hidden blade yet. Once you get it they’ll just die instead.
I have 90 hours in this game and this whole video was a bit painful. 🤦🏻♀️
Another thing that would have helped Jon a lot in this video, is that you can fight from horse-/camel-back. It's almost OP to take on enemies on horseback, the Phylakes that are terrifying to take down on foot are a cakewalk with a horse.
This game reminds me a lot of Phantom Pain just from the look of it. All the deserts, the clothing, the marking and stealth focus... probably that's just part of most Ubisoft games now, I wouldn't know.
Btw, Jon, have you ever been asked to play through the Metal Gear Solids? I would love a brief retrospective on all of those from you similar to what you did with the other Assassins Creeds. You like James Bond and silly Japanese games from the 90's.
nessesaryschoolthing I personally found Metal Gear Solid V as one of those "I'm serious" games that are just RIDICULOUS. For example. First open world mission. (I'm a metal gear newbie) I sneak up to someone and see RT to attack. I'm confused on why I can't knock him out. He turns around, I am standing right in front of him and panic. I DIVE INTO HIM. He's on the ground and I just crawl away.
Tackling someone to the ground is a fair move, lol. If you think that's silly, I'm surprised you don't object to the Cardboard Box, the ultimate stealth tool. Not to mention the guided fist missile you can replace your prosthetic with. Yeah, it's not THAT serious.
nessesaryschoolthing Well It wasnt really a tackle at all I just randomly dived onto the ground but he was in feont of me resulting in me diving into his crotch
If someone dove into your crotch, how would you react?
*notices your name*
Actually, don't answer that.
We gonna see this as a series i hope
happy new years merry christmas happy ester happy birthday merry star wars day and have a good N7 day
SERIES SERIES SERIES *chants into infinity*
Flipping hell Jon why haven't you played the Witcher 3 yet?!
Hello man doing good
There is still one main assassin's creed game you've missed Jon and that's Rouge and in my opinion one of the best because of how different yet similar it was to the others.
Rogue also has a shorter and more compressed story so it's much less of a time commitment.
I fucking love rogue I just never 100% it because of the storm fortress
Rogue was storywise certainly more interesting then Black Flag. Although not really believable. The guy distrusts the Assassin's but believes everything any templar says without questioning....
Almost as bad as Mr. Do what you're told Connor of AC3.
Unity had a story. And a okish one of that. And story and history setting makes a good ac for me. I can't remember ANYTHING from Black Flag but the Ship fights. That makes it a fun ship fighting game. Not a good AC.
Still. Hate the level system in Origins..
Btw i remember the french disliked Unity because it showed the french revolution as the messy bloodbath that it was, not the gloryfied fairy tale some make of it.
I remember everything from BF personally. Also this game is utter shite. The fact that you can't 1 shot assassinate people is stupid and takes away the point of assassinating.
SomeIdiotWithAGame I really like this game. I played for like 50 hours and the only reason Jon couldn't one shot people is because he was a lower level than what the game suggested. It's very fun just to run around on my horse doing quests for random people and exploring tombs.
AnDay5zlebt Don't forget that the game mechanics in Unity were the best ones in the entire Franchise. Combat felt challenging for once, a nice change from pressing two buttons and killing horders of enemies and the climbing felt so incredibly smooth. Unity would have been the best AC game if it wasn't for all the bugs at release.
That shouldn't be a thing tho. This is assassins creed level shouldn't matter when it comes to assassinations.
If I'm able to figure out a sound way to assassinate someone I should be allowed to just go ahead and do it. The old AC games stopped this perfectly by having a linear story system withing an open world with side quests
Yyyyyyuueeeeeeeeyyyyyy more jon 😀
I love the series to the point i 100%ed black flag. All missions, all optional objectives, all fucking collectibles
I feel the same about assassins creed. Hell, I liked Revelations!
Good vid but can u show all cutscenes pls
Why? Just look it up on TH-cam. It would destroy the pace of the video if he did
That's an easy way to get a strike and demonetized.
call the bird; because everyone knows that the bird is the word.
Jon you cant finish them because they always drag on too much.
They might be called palm trees but they are actually large weeds.. not really wood
Egyptian catapults why not
*claps*
*appreciates clapping*
How else are you gonna fling mummies across the land?
Justin Kroboth exactly
Justin Kroboth how else do you think they built the pyramids
Thanks Jon!!!! Hi Claire
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx so happy Jon for u playing AC Origins this game is da best and ur the best
its a shame the Romans didn't look Historically accurate, well to be fair, some of the Armour didn't look to bad. I saw some nice Lorica Hamata and in a costume you get, I think for doing all Arena challenges, its Lorica Segmentata, which is pretty cool.
Connor Quarmby They’re not Romans these are Ptolomey’s soldiers Romans are later in the game
I know...I've completed the game. Though Ptolemy's soldiers do look nice and Greek, most of them...I think...though I do hate that everyone and their mother gets a boy, well almost everyone.
There's numbers, MUST BE RPG. kek
So by that logic, is Borderlands the best RPG ever since it's full of numbers?
Yo yo
This game nice
W E
RE EE EE EEE yes because a black guy from Africa is worthy of ridicule...
I can't wait for them to run out of time periods to butcher & have to do futuristic spacecowboy assassin because cowboy bebop.
Assassin's Creed was my favorite game series right up until Number 3. That one BETRAYED me, and felt like a real knife in my back. Everything after that one was either terrible, or barely mediocre. Black Flag and Rogue don't count, being more Pirate games than anything else.
I just can't muster up enough effort to play Origins. I've been hurt to deeply to love again.
David Idiart Do it! It is so much better than 3, and possibly 2nd or 3rd fav in the franchise.
The RPG elements are a turn off. Or, at least the health bars. Something about the style is off. Can't quite describe it.
You mean AC3, or Brotherhood?
AC3 was the bad one. Brotherhood was PURE AND BEAUTIFUL. Revelations as well. Kinda.
David Idiart what exactly is so bad about ac3?
I've got a unicorn mount lol
MORE
is this game still infected with those cpu frying anti-piracy things?
yes. it hitches on my 8600k at 4.7 ghz, ffs.
