Can we just talk about the suit radio tapok is wearing, a Russian officer suit while joakim looks like a German spreading the gas. This is absolutely gives that little edge to that song

Not just any Russian officer either! A Russian officer with a white tissue over his neck (would be mouth if he didn't have to sing), just like the soldiers in Osowiec who used them before they were coughing up blood from the gas 👀.

Although he is a cover artist he himself is there for many years and has a huge fan base. Most of the people there recognized him at once, they have heard this cover and cheered him personally. So yes he did own that stage but this was not like a unique lifetime experience, he does it all the time :)

@@GG-ne4it i think people just refer to the crowd being way bigger than he normally performs in front of (not that i'd know, just reading the comments)

    • @GG-ne4it

@@ruma9687 he himself sells out stadiums and tours a lot. Numbers cannot be compared those of TOP original artists but still he is quite big in Russia for a rock, not pop or rap guy. His youtube channel is twice bigger than Sabaton's. So please don't let the #coverartist fool you, it was mutually beneficial, maybe even in favor of Sabaton at least in Russia. For instance I heard of Sabaton from his covers in the first place. Peace ✌️

Funny enough, I think we, Russians, are "metally" (is that a word even??) a lot closer to Germans than to any other nation. Almost since 90s, when I got into metal music, you may have heard discussions about, for example, Metallica being cool or not, but when people hear Blind Guardian it goes "Hell yeah!!" all the time =)

Whats awesome about Radio Tapok´s covers of Sabaton (at least) songs is the fact that he puts more historic details into the songs. Well putting the same amount of details he puts in russian would be impossible to do in english for some reason if you tried to stay in rythm of the song etc. Its like reading a story and writing a short recap of the song. Love both of them.

Oleg (radio tapok) has a deeper meaning in the lyrics. "They are all vomiting (blood), knowing the outcome (they understood that they would no longer survive), they went forward." Well, this is actually Oleg's success when such "heavyweights" recognize you and even let you record a song a few days before the release of their new album. And also a good advertising company. Sabaton know how to stir up interest)

I love the way they sent him the song in advance of release - that is not just out of the box thinking, it is throwing the box away! And while having him singing on stage with them at their Russian concerts was inspired, doing so unannounced was even more so.
I neither speak nor understand Russian, but I have sung in it, learning the parts phonetically, and it is a very satisfying language to sing in. Of course, I've completely forgotten the songs now, 40 years later - our choir was hosting a visiting Russian male voice choir so we learned some of each other's repertoire to be able to combine on stage 150 strong, which was awesome.
I think linguistics is an ability I wish I had but don't more than any other, but my brain just doesn't seem to be wired that way.
Maths and physics, no problem, languages, Huh?
I thought I'd heard you say before that the drummer's wife sings as well, or plays an ESP EV-1. Something like that. :-)

    • @hazelangus
      @hazelangus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Damn straight - I'd say it's not out-of-the-box, it's carefully opening the box without damaging it and refolding it into an origami penguin. For the sheer, joyous WTF OMGery of it.
And somehow they make you wonder why nobody else has thought of something like that, and yet you get the feeling that nobody else could possibly pull it off.

In 2019 on a Metal festival in Portugal (VOA) Trivium played a cover of a popular Portuguese singer, with him, and then he sang a song from Trivium (Until the world goes cold) and then the crowd was hyped as fuck, you can listen and see the crowd singing both chorus full power. I saw days later Matt saying that, that was the concert of their lives. This is one of those things that you love a band for, and in fact my appreciation for Trivium grew a lot because of that. There is a LOL moment when Toy (the PT singer) starts to make push ups in the middle of the stage.

Dunno if it was brought to your attention already (upd - ye you know that, i wrote a comment before watching the video :D), but this cover has an insane backstory. As you can see, Tapok and Sabaton are friends. And when Sabaton discovered his covers back in the day, they contacted him and asked if he's down to cover UNRELEASED at a time song, of course, about Russian history. Sure there was no chance he declined this unbelievable offer. So Tapok's video actually came out BEFORE the song was released by the band themselves. I find this as an incredible gesture of respect towards his covers and all the work he does, and it makes me love Sabaton even more.

From everything I've seen about Sabaton's interactions with anyone and everyone, I'm almost 100% sure that the reason they do things the way they do is because they know for a fact that without fans, they've got nothing. You can write awesome material, be a badass vocalist, whatever... But if no one wants to listen to you, then it doesn't fucking matter. Sabaton brings out guests who've done stuff with them because it's the right thing to do, commercially and morally. Tapok wouldn't have done a cover in the first place if he didn't like Sabaton, and his cover no doubt brought views to Sabaton stuff from other Russians... It just makes sense that they bring him out to play with them. Everybody wins, nobody's feelings get hurt, all that good shit. Fans are why Sabaton is successful, including that time a certain fukkin Roadie got mentioned on their twitter feed AND responded to by band members.

Fun fact: both "sabaton" and "tapok" words is kinds of shoes.
Sabaton - part of medieval armour that covers the foot, "tapok" in Russian mean slipper.

Think they did the same with another track on the Album with Apocalyptica. Their cover was released before the album as well. Crazy marketing campaign in general they also did a press junket at Verdun with included site tour and history lesson.

They actually did a similar thing with the song "Fields Of Verdun" where Apocalyptica released their cover of it before Sabaton released the official version. That was certainly interesting!
from Blabbermouth: 'SABATON bassist Pär Sundström comments: "I watched APOCALYPTICA's show in Madrid last year and I was blown away by the magic atmosphere they created. This made me excited to see what these fantastic musicians could do with a SABATON song! And what would be more fun than to let them record their version of a song not yet released?"'

I was never too much into Sabaton, but I'm starting to enjoying them watching you enjoying them so much 😁.
On a side note, man, I really want you and Chase to check out the band VINTERSEA, so, I try to comment it every now and then to hopefulling call others attention to support that suggestion. They do kind of "progressive black metal" so, I'm sure you will enjoy them. Their song "Befallen" is a really banger!

If you like Russian singing I highly recommend checking out the band ARIA. They are a Russian metal band who have been called the Russian Iron Maiden.
I recommend "Убить дракона" (Kill The Dragon according to Google Translate, I don't speak Russian) from their show in 2019 with amazing stage setup: th-cam.com/video/3M80hOnIbQ4/w-d-xo.html
It is a full show uploaded by the band so I've linked it to start from the song. The songs are all great and the only negative is that I don't speak Russian at all so it's hard to remember which song is which...

I think a look through the vlogs and do a behind the scenes look at the behind the scenes videos they did during the euro part of the great war tour, would be interested to here you take on things that came up on that series, possibly watch and edit it down into a mini series giving a third party industry inside perspective
