    I love how this went from "oh we're doing zelda" to evolving into its own little thing entirely. Wonderful to see.

    I really like the cooldown system since it encourages you to to actually cast spells, unlike RPGs where casts cost mana so you end up saving them only for boss battles.
    Maybe you can still have spells cost mana, but you gain mana by doing combos using your main weapon. That way, you're forced to constantly switch between using the main weapon and casting spells.

    Just found your channel today and I'm looking forward to your game, it looks absolutely fantastic
    Personally, I prefer a CD system over a mana system, because with CD it feels like we have to carefully use abilities, while a mana system can be exploited (especially if there's mana restoring items like mana potions)

    This has been very entertaining to watch and I have just finished watching all these videos. I think it would be great if you could make your weapon affect your spells. For example making a sword burn enemies when you press the spell and attack button at the same time. I look forward to watching the next videos you upload.

    I love your game... brilliant style. My two cents about the spells...I love the fire visuals. I like the ice visuals tho I'd like to see it beefed up a bit to match the fire (maybe a particle blast of snowflakes or slaggy ice radiating out from the player). The lightning comparatively is a bit underwhelming. I think a jagged electrical charge around the player and a screen flash would really help sell its power. A brief discharge anim after the attack would be cute too (think R2-D2 after he gets electrocuted in Star Wars).

    I'm still going through each devlog in order so idk if this has already been added, but I want to note that as cool and well thought the loadout and cooldowns system is, they can also make some players too passive by just casting spells and walking around barely attacking, waiting for the spells to recharge.
    I think that a way to fix this is by giving an incentive to fight with the weapons in order to recharge the spells, either by filling a "mana" that is separate for each spell, and when you attack enemies you fill both spells' mana, or make really long cooldowns for the spells but the players can speed up those cooldowns if they attack enemies.
    (Edit: I have now catched up on the newer devlogs and given how the combat system changed to a simpler system, this idea wouldn't benefit the game anymore I think :D)

    I have a few suggestions. I think you should switch the Ice spell to temporarily freeze the enemies. I think that instead of dropping coins, I think you should vary it by what you are vanquishing. Such as enemies give you coins, and vegetation gives you herbs. Following up on that, I suggest that you can craft items. Like combining two herbs to make a health potion. In addition to dropping coins the enemies should drop items that help you upgrade your gear (weapons and armor). Skills or abilities should also be upgradeable. Defeating enemies gives you xp, and you can level up. Leveling up gives you a skill point, and the player has to decide if they want to use it to increase their health or magic level (magic attacks are more effective). I know these sound a little cliche, but I would love to see them implemented in one way or another.

    This looks super cool and I would love to try it out soon! I do have a little nitpicky thing that I just want to throw out there. I may be in the minority, but have you considered putting the health/weapon interface in the center top or bottom? The only reason I thought to mention this was because you talked about cooldown management and personally, I prefer those cooldown animations to be in the center for better periphery awareness, especially during high level play. Again, I may be in the minority with that opinion, but I'm curious if anyone else feels the same. Or perhaps the ability for the player to move the UI around a bit. In any case, loved this video!

    This is an idea, but for the time the third weapon comes, you could make that the player only can use 2 main weapons and that they choose which one to use. Althouth now that I think about it, that would go against your idea of the weapons at the beginning of the video, so if you want, take something of this, and if not, I am just glad commenting here.

    Commenting late to the party so I don't know if you've made changes to the spell system but using a cool down technique opens up a nice possibility for spell levels too. You could have charged versions of each spell that are more powerful but take a little longer to cast and corresponding longer to cool down.

  • @Deeredman4
    @Deeredman4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could make the 3rd weapon a side quest that is only available near the end of the game. That way you don't really have to balance around it too much and any balancing that you do have to do is near the end of the game where it might be arguably ok to snowball a little bit.
    If I could make a suggestion for the final weapon; allow people to equip another spell in their weapon spot, giving them a total of 4 spells and allowing them to play more like an AOE caster class.

  • @angryexpo6297
    @angryexpo6297 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I have a suggestion for further incentivising switching loadouts mid combat. You should have certain enemies null certain elemental attacks. Like how you can't use your fire ball on a fire slime so you switch to your ice loadout to kill it.

  • @cringeylol4078
    @cringeylol4078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For a third main weapon I had an idea a whip kind of like a merge of sword and bow more range than sword more dmg than bow also shadow spell which deals low dmg but makes enemies slower or not dashing it might be cool to play around with and my last idea a bird nest 🪺 which has a long cooldown similar to spells but is gear and when used spawns a bird that attacks enemies for mediocre dmg for half the cooldown

  • @hassanjomaa4073
    @hassanjomaa4073 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    First, you did a very great work. Second, in my opinion I think that for your game's game-style it is much better for the abilities to have the same cool-down for all the loadouts so player should not burst every ability they have (which in my opinion is not fun at all) which makes the game harder (better and more fun).

  • @kristian9795

    Nice looking game,i played the demo and i have a sugestion,it would be cool if you would add different weapon types with different stats,an example:Katana-fast,less damage but gives a bleed effect wich will take a bit of life of an enemy every 2 seconds;Axe-big damage,kinda slow and it will stun enemies a LOT and others types

    You should have your spells auto swap like Sora in Smash Bros. It will likely feel cumbersome press button to swap the. Press again to activate. Alternatively, I would consider how Dark souls does their item swapping and spell swapping all on the D pad allowing for infinite scrolling in any of the four directions.

  • @loxyrakkary3502

    What about a parry ? I always like that mechanic in games, if you parry at the perfect time it will deal a massive amount of dmg back to the attacker. Can even throw in some movement in there, if you parry at a distance, you can then dash to the ennemy and then you add your short spell bursts :)

    I think you should have "variants" of weapons that are basically different types of that weapon that can fit someones setup better like a wand instead of a bow that makes all your spells recharge quicker when you attack with the wand but you don't deal as much damage. There should be melee varaiants that change the how you use the sword an ranged variants that change how you use the bow.

  • @kuuluna

    So how about passive items like artifacts that gives permanent buffs to either your weapons or spells. It's either a boss drop or items found throughout the map.
    Also I have this idea either having all weapons only for a run or spells only.
    I have a weapon idea for blunt weapon. It's morning star or hammer. Reduce enemies armor and small chance to stun.

    @kaboomsihal1164 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not a fan of the spell loadout idea tbh. I get what you're trying to go for I think but to me it looks like all 3 spells are just area damage so basically the same spell and the loadout swapping is just there to artificially make you press more buttons. It doesn't sound like a rewarding system. Just a clunky system. I like the idea of loadout swaps to fit the situation but having spells spread out over them and the POINT of swapping being only the cooldowns just feels like an arbitrary "dance monkey dance" rotation being forced onto the player. There's no actual gameplay reason to swap.
    A loadout swap imo needs to offer a noticeably different playstyle to swap into, so that players feel like they can use it to adapt to the situation and so it also rewards players for actually setting up their loadouts well. Especially if that then comes with a learning curve for good setups/combinations. Taking only the cooldowns from the god of war system is basically taking only the mildly annoying side effect of having to rotate for maximum efficiency and leaving all the good stuff behind.
    Maybe take a look at the system in moonlighter, I think they did their "skill system" well. You decide which weapons to take, you can swap but only between the limited weapons you brought with you, each weapon has its own very unique playstyle so you need to both figure out which ones you like and pick a combination that helps you deal with all types of enemies. Combining something like that with spells that actually do more than just an AoE damage effect so your choice of spell can compliment the playstyle of the weapon would probably be really fun.
