Have you ever visited Switzerland? If so, did you think it was too expensive? Let us know 👇

We just came back from Suisse, stayed there for 2 months, from Oz. One hundred CHF won't buy much especially if you eat in proper restaurants. That was our daily budget just for food, lunch and dinner. Breakfasts were all included in the hotels😁

"Ässbar" is swiss german for "essbar" in german, which means "eatable". Ässbar is an Anti-Foodwaste project, they sell basically stuff from the day before, that has not been sold. About the pronunciation, you wouldn't be too far off, if you would just say it in english, lol. (The "ä" is close to the "a" in the word "care" for example ("cär").
Also, Switzerland is even expensive for most swiss people, sadly, we don't get a gold bar and a swiss army knife from the government for our first birthday.

Ahh, okay! Thanks for the explanation, we were very curious about that! I suppose it makes sense that we got such a good deal on the croissants! And yes, it must be a hard thing to manage. We tried to be quite frugal and still ended up spending more than most of the places we've visited 😬

Hello from Basel, As @macheinfach has already written, "Äss Bar" is accordingly edible, but at the same time it is probably also a play on words, which is why "Bar" is written separately. The other meaning would then simply be a bar where you can eat. With some things you can make/recognize such puns, also at the town hall. "Rothuus" in Basel-German can have 2 meanings, on the one hand red (the color) and on the other hand city council, both are spoken the same way.
Regarding tipping, you already know that this is always included, so it wouldn't necessarily be necessary to give something extra. As a rule, one rounds up to a next "round" amount, depending on the total (to whole francs, the next 5 francs ....).

Really? Wow, we didn't know any of that! Thanks for the tips, next time we will be more prepared with the tipping 😆

I think it is pronounced closer to something like the ess bar. I think Sid said that.
