Thank you. I will continue masking and taking other precautionary measures for respiratory illnesses whether it is H5N1, SARS-cov-2, RSV, influenza viruses, or other H and N types viruses.

H5N1 is evolving from a natural reservoir as we might predict. We might be one unlikely mutation from something horrible, but only time will tell. Covid-19 on the other hand came out of nowhere and we still can’t find a natural reservoir. Just something to keep in mind.

Net is that there are no public health leaders attempting to contain it, so get used to living with more illness.

Were the symptoms experienced by the health care workers who took care of the human bird flu patient due to bird flu or due to something else, such as COVID-19 or RSV?

That is what those CDC tests should help figure out!

    Thanks for the non-alarmist update.

What are the current odds we have vaccines (for poultry / cattle) that produce cross-reactive antibodies against current H5N1 strains?

We aren’t sure on the answer to this specific question, they are though actively testing vaccines for animals against H5N1

Hopefully the workers got something totally unrelated to bird flu. CDC said today they felt it was pretty unlikely the workers got infected since the viral load was so minimal

No one died and the illness was so mild. Bird flu kills as many as 50% of the time. Maybe these are all false positives ?

Interesting thought! The genotype sequencing is pretty darn accurate so it seems that they are true H5N1 positives. What we wonder is whether the variant that jumped into cows and can infect humans is less deadly than previous variants that had the 50% mortality rate
