American who’s had two of these. Still have one. Fantastic and capable in every condition I’ve put it. The black caps on the roof are antennas, the “wire passthrough” in the rear bumper is the spare tire winch access hole. The reason you can’t get more payload is bc the overall vehicle weight, rear suspension placement are set for maneuverability and comfort for towing. Any more weight in the bed, and it becomes unsafe at speed, ie no steering. If hey pushed the rear axle back, then you could get more payload but your turning radius would take a hard hit. But it drives easy, and is not hard to live with or park. Granted I prefer the short wheelbase for turning radius and towing maneuverability.
They are very simple antennas, sattilite radio / cellular data for the truck, basically a single coax connector through the roof that’s a small clip that holds it to the roof. Since the roof is aluminum, I’d say very sacrificial. But not by design, mostly by happening chance of material choice. The plastic has a simple adhesive gasket and the clip/connector to keep it on the roof
A cargo format transit van will have that antenna exposed from the bottom of the bare roof in the cargo area just behind the front seat, which is how I know this, ford doesn’t like to change connectors if they don’t have to (saving $$), so it’s the similar across platforms. Antenna shape changes with platform though.
The black covers on top aren’t meant for what you mentioned. One of for your XM radio and one for your is modem for your internet. And “the pass through” you mentioned on the bumper is where you lower your spare tire.
Sell these in the states and absolutely love them. Especially the 5.0 V8 and the hybrid powerboost models that can power your entire house or construction site.
From an American, to all the Aussies questioning build quality. These trucks are built absolutely solid. Built just as good as your beloved landanoozers. Americans must be better drivers because we dont have issues driving and parking the f150 in cities.
Living a half hour from Detroit they cost around 80k here now. l also drive a F350 dually Crewcab 8 foot box. So I see that as a tiny truck. My point is I have never done a 3 point turn in this truck so I think you will be fine if you can actually drive a bigger truck it's nothing my wife drives this one all the time too.
This is super interesting, it seems that for the australian market, Ford combined some components of both the ICE and Lightning F150s for the interior.
Its not 100k in the U.S. there around 6-70,000 for a lariat. But with discounts/rebates running currently you can get them in the 50s. Should make factory rhd f150 to reduce the price. But while i like the v6 ecoboost- the v8 is better on fuel.
LWB are 6.195 or nearly 6.2 metre in length not 5.8 as that’s for short wheelbase model. Always reverse park and then it won’t stick out that much as if you drive in
It’s a huge lump of metal, a crazy car to buy and own in Australia, it’s just too oversized and incredibly bulky to park in a city or carpark. I suspect it’s rather thirsty as well. The price for what it is might be reasonable for some, but I suspect not so many. The comfort inside, front and back, looks good. A well spoken review with some good advice about city use or not. Given that most Australians, if they live outside a City, still drive into cities from time to time they’d need to think carefully about buying this huge vehicle. Not for me in any circumstance, and I do wonder about the build quality. I’m sure some will want to buy it, but how they take the advice given in this informative review.
Sorry you got those stuck on reflectors man.. that is some crazy government regulation. Also crazy Ford does not build a RHD version. Customer is forced to pay for that extra cost. Interesting hearing your perspective on pedestrian deaths etc due to hood height. Something we don't think much about here in the states. I think most deaths come from DWI, speed and not paying attention. While the F150 is a big truck, there are so many much larger ones here (in the USA) and plenty of "18 wheelers" hauling freight so it is actually a bit scary to drive a small vehicle when all the others around you are much bigger and heavier. Given its high cost it might be limited to only those families that have a place to keep it and can take advantage of its towing capability and have the deep pockets to keep it full of gas. The short bed with a sport appearance package looks much nicer as it gets rid of all the chrome.
True, Ford itself does not build the RHD F-150, but it's all approved and directed by Ford Australia with approval from Ford America. So indirectly they do, hence the 'How' in the video title. I'd love to drive a two door F-150 with that Coyote tho.
no, the F150 lariat does not cost over $100k it starts at $65,000 here in the US now maybe in Australian money it cost over 100. I don't know the conversion rate nor do I care
Without context, that comment is a waste of data. Unless you're trying to sound cool and edgy? Let me ask you a question with context added. What colour is your F-150 Lariat?
I sell these in the states. We have the 5.0 coyote v8 available and many dealers will now install a whipple or ford motorsport super charger to put the v8 over 700 horsepower and still keep the warrantee for an extra 15k usd . In Stock form this 3.5 twin turbo v6 has more towing capacity and its a bit faster than the v8. The hybrid 3.5 called the powerboost is a rocket, gets 25mpgs and can power your entire house if you loose electricity. Glad to see Aussies getting these. Hopefully yall will get the other engine options as well or the king ranch or Platinum models for even more luxury for those who want it.

Ahhh appreciate the insight. I'm sure they've been designed to be sacrificial too just in case they impact a low lying roof.

Weird how Ford changed the driver side to accommodate Australia but not the keypad....it left it on the passenger side. Wtf
Nm...its a conversion
You got the 2021-2023 facia, tail lights, wheels and bumpers, there was a mid-cycle refresh in North America for 2024.
From an American, to all the Aussies questioning build quality. These trucks are built absolutely solid. Built just as good as your beloved landanoozers.
Americans must be better drivers because we dont have issues driving and parking the f150 in cities.
US cities and towns absolutely have more space to operate these in than most Australian cities...

I think he is talking about Aussie dollars. So 70k USD is 100k AUD.

what a great review thanks
Also, the super cab does not come with an 8 foot bed here in the US
Ya it does. The Super Crew doesn’t.
Thanks for sharing looks amazing
What is a jewel cab?
Dual Cab aka two door
What recall are we up to? 4 or 5?
I have a f150 (I'm in the US) my truck only has 2 recalls and they are stupid recalls
It’s not really top of the line as here in the US we get the Platinum and Platinum Plus
As a mechanic, worked on these and build quality is absolute rubbish, but I understand why people buy them.
What truck isn’t rubbish?
As a Technician in the US. The build quality is absolutely not rubbish. You must be a landsnoozer fan boy.
The fact that you said rubbish tells me you know nothing.
@@1FiftyOverlandit's worse. He's one of those people who's lineage we saved in WW2. Soft and weak.
Ford has excellent quality

Wow the gun to your head forcing you to buy one must be intimidating
They are super common in Canada. I’m a builder and am going on my 3rd with an 8ft box.
If you can’t drive a truck in the city and park it, then turn in your drivers licence.
I actually park my truck in a parking garage for work. it's not a big deal.
In the mother land shortbox an long box are same cost

These soft Australian boys learning to drive a small pickup is funny. Put him in a f350 dually. He’d end up crying.
Lmao what
you can keep your oversized big mac muncher "truck"
please keep your big mac munching yank tanks in america lmao
Not the top o the range. Higher trims are Tremor Platinum king ranch Raptor
ESV - emotional support vehicle only.
For 120 grand plus no thanks

You must be a curious open minded guy
It costs over 100k in Australia because you are paying for the conversion.
These things are as big as the owner's egos.
What colour is yours?
Without context, that comment is a waste of data. Unless you're trying to sound cool and edgy? Let me ask you a question with context added. What colour is your F-150 Lariat?
Lots of regular people drive these. Men and women. A couple years ago these were $50000.
Judging by the replies, I think you hit the spot with your comment.😂
No v8 so not interested
I have a v12 not interested in v8
I sell these in the states.

The 3.5 ecoboost has more power and torque over the v8.
