Thank you very much! I did an in-place upgrade to 2022 (yeah..I know...not ideal) and it reset my Administrator password. Following your steps allowed me to change it back and get logged back in. Yay!

I am SO glad this works. The only question i have is how do you reset the display boot menu to no? It looks like your on the D drive (your virtual drive?) Or can you reset that via the command line on the repaired server after resetting the password? And what is the default timeout does that need to be reset also?

Hi Robert< thanks for the video, is really a good trick. In my case doesn't work because I need to reset the administrator password on the domain, but said the domain cant be contacted or reach. Any idea what should I try next?
Be quick! That trick (almost) doesn't work anymore in Windows Server 2022 (21H2 (Build 19044,1288)). That is because Windows will detect that the Utilman.exe has been renamed and therefore DELETE it. Luckily it takes the Operating System a few seconds to notice, so in my case I still had enough time to run this command: net user Administrator "" (right before the command prompt window disappeared magically). I also tried to set it to read-only before with attrib but that didn't prevent the deletion of the file, so as introduced: type in the command as quickly as you can so you still have a chance to at least set the local password back to nothing and continue from there.

@@SamuelOnwuachi I guess now you can tell why I wrote "Be quick!" ← that is not a recommendation, it's a must. If this is a virtual machine you're trying to run this on you still have the possibility to either "overload" the hypervisor so that it works more slowly or restrict the virtual machine's resources and enable CPU limits, meaning you let it run slower intentionally. This way you could try to bypass this. If you come to that point you need to keep the quotation marks intact. Maybe try it a few times even.
Hey, I am just a parttime PACS guy. In my CMD, net user administrator /active: yes as a successful command. I still cannot access win\sys32 to rename utilman.exe. My admin pswd is lost. I am hoping to avoid a factory reset, by gaining more commands in cmd server 22 windows as OS.
what could the default admin password be when I installed the windows server 2022 in my virtual box vm? I downloaded as iso file and and it was a brand new vm, I’ve tried my 4 digit log in pin for that vm but it wasn’t it. Please help :(

Glad it worked. Just go back in and type bcdedit /timeout 0 to reset the display.

It seems to me you may have been hacked or had malware installed. This is not normal. It will always stick. Scan for malware asap.

Resetting the domain password would only work on a DC if you can't reach it from the client.

Try the 2019 version as it is a bit different from the 2019 playlist.

You're forced to create a password just before you log in the first time, so its something you set. Try resetting as per the video.

In my case Diskpart shows the OS Drive but shows it as having no letter assigned, any ideas for that?
I've seen that. You just need to assign the drive letter in Diskpart. www.diskpart.com/diskpart/assign-drive-letter-4125.html
