First time I heard Darrell i was in Scotland he was on the BBC singing You'll Never leave Harlan alive, I was totally blown away. I had the honor to meet Darrell in east Tennessee at Jay Clark's place he and his wife are dang good folks.
I love that Darrell Scott's music is so completely rich: voice, lyric, style, skill, passion, honesty, spirit, wisdom. Its like whole food for the soul.
This is what makes us mere mortals strive to making music. Despite all impossibility of being as good as Darrell is, he puts the burn in the belly to try. I can only thank him for that!
While reading about the people who have influenced Sarah Jarosz, I found Darrell Scott. Man, am I glad I did! I could listen to him all night! In fact, that is exactly what I am going to do!
Darrell rarely plays a song the same way twice. The version of "River Take Me" at 39:55 is epic...Kenny Malone on top of his game and Darrell as good as you're ever gonna hear.... Thanks Hippy Jack for this one!
His adaptations are always so epic! Just started watching this one, and I'm waiting to hear his guitar again when his son comes home from the war in a box... Aw, wasn't on this one...but I thot it was his best when I'd heard it.
Thank you for following our show. Look for us on your local PBS station and if they don't carry our show give them a call and let them know you want "Jammin at Hippie Jacks" played in your area.
I will. Thank You for posting these concerts on TH-cam where we can all watch these great musicians perform for free. Hippie Jack, you’re the man. Thank You
That Adam Mitchell song....damn Every time this man sings, I hear truth. Doesn't matter if it's his stuff or others. I'm so stuck on two of his cds, I'm just way in ignorance of his vast catalog. Wish everyone could hear that soulfully beautiful voice. God bless Darrell, his fam and friends.🌹🕊️
Thanks so much for this, high point of a less than stellar day! Would have made me smile on my best day!! But today I thank you. What a change of attitude and altitude! Just a couple of National Treasures!! 😸🙏😺
What a great concert... thanks for uploading! Love it and love Darell, too! That "old guy" on the drums, Kenny Malone, is terrific. Really sounds like horses clip-clopping or running for dear life through the songs... fabulous! I PS: I have to laugh because we are ALL "oldsters" now from this wonderful folk generation.
My boss is out, so I figured I would listed to some music on TH-cam. I pulled up my list of Favorites to play all, and this guy came up. I thought, "Who the hell is this and why is he on my Favorites?" Then I played it and remembered why it is in my list of Favorites. Fantastic.
I've got to throw this out there, THANK YOU JACK! I am a CA native, and this music doesn't get much exposure out here. If I could ever afford it, I would love to find my way out for one of the festivals... But until then, I will remain a loyal follower of JammingAtHippieJacks channel! Thanks Jack for bringing this music to the world! And especially to little 'ole me in CA...
Wow! I would love to here him and Patty Lovelace do a duet. You can get lost in his voice but just listen to his guitar work. He makes that Taylor sparkle.
thanks for that Jack :) I will be looking for your show on PBS, I only get local channels, but PBS is one...seen so many fantastic artists on PBS--cant wait :)) ~Smilin at Hippyjacks!!!
Hey, awesome show! You should also break up this video into individual songs. You will get more exposure when people search for specific titles and they can replay their favorites.
What is the tuning?? I know the d is dropped but the other strings? too tired tonight to figure it out. or maybe lazy. love the tune btw. Always dig Darrell down here in Texas.
I've been a long time fan of Darrel's and Tim as well. Heard them last summer in Lacrosse WI. He does a respectable job on Dobro, but the basic barring with a little picking definitely makes me appreciate the true artistry of Jerry Douglas who takes the sound to another level. No offense Darrell, you're great and I know when playing solo it's nice to have a mix of songs, effects and styles. Please come to MN sometime.
i still like paisleys "harlan" better, but i suppose its only because his was the first version i ever heard and fell in love with, but this dude is freakin incredible and his "version" if you will, is obviously the one most prefer
Years from now, he'll be remembered as one of the greatest American artists ever.
First time I heard Darrell i was in Scotland he was on the BBC singing You'll Never leave Harlan alive, I was totally blown away. I had the honor to meet Darrell in east Tennessee at Jay Clark's place he and his wife are dang good folks.
That performance is part of the Transatlantic Sessions - a multi-year series of shows that feature wonderful musicians. Great stuff
This performance never gets old.
Very deep soothing music. Love this Sir. ❤
I love that Darrell Scott's music is so completely rich: voice, lyric, style, skill, passion, honesty, spirit, wisdom. Its like whole food for the soul.
Well said!
Yes.
Very apt description.
I may have to direct folks to it.
It's a perfect description.
🕊️💯🌹

how about next summer (2017) same?
Next summer same thing? I'd need 4 tickets
Robert Plant recognized that also during the Band of Joy run!
While reading about the people who have influenced Sarah Jarosz, I found Darrell Scott. Man, am I glad I did! I could listen to him all night! In fact, that is exactly what I am going to do!
What an incredible concert .... Darrell is one of the best, if not the best. Thank you ...
When a man can take you to another place with his playing and singing, just simply The Best. Easy to see why he was Robert Plant worthy. 🤙🤙❤️
Darrell rarely plays a song the same way twice. The version of "River Take Me" at 39:55

I tuned in to the PBS broadcast of this concert late in the show. It was the first time I heard Darrell Scott and I became an instant fan. Thank you.

This version is so refreshing and reminds me of the old time music I love so dearly. Thanks for sharing
I really gotta see this man play live.
he's playing at City Winery this thursday, 21 july
im a tad to far from chicago to make a show that soon ;)
My boss is out, so I figured I would listed to some music on TH-cam. I pulled up my list of Favorites to play all, and this guy came up. I thought, "Who the hell is this and why is he on my Favorites?"
Then I played it and remembered why it is in my list of Favorites. Fantastic.
this version of out among the stars is the best I've ever heard. I want this version

Unbelievable
Amazing performance
My truck holds 6 CDs and you best bet two of those slots are for crooked road. This man is by far my favorite artist of all time.
Subscribed and loved! Thanks for this!😸

Darrell will be performing with Tim O'Brien during our Memorail day weekend festival May 23, 24, 25, 26,-2013.
superb
Can't listen to Harlan, not today, so thank God they got it out of the way.
it's a Free Bird req. song but he varies it well. New fans need to know/hear it.
My God!!!!!!
EMOCIONANTE!!!!
Can i just get a hand picking my jaw up off of the floor!?@#$% WOWZERS!!!
The wood of God ,played by one of His favored Sons .That is not a drum,it is the heart of the Earth.

Damn.
Muito Bom!
What is the tuning?? I know the d is dropped but the other strings? too tired tonight to figure it out. or maybe lazy. love the tune btw. Always dig Darrell down here in Texas.
@BigVOLdaddy: he wrote the Damn song. Without his version you'd have no argument. Are you kidding me?
Great video! Did Darrell screw up and play the same song (crooked road) twice or did they just mix it wrong?
DS rarely plays from a set list. He just plays what feels right. Crooked Road must have just felt REAL good that night.
+rounder355 yeah but I doubt he gives the same speech about the album twice in a row
This is one of the internet's best kept secrets. I know it's wrong, but I'd rather keep it that way.
I almost hate myself.

epic
What is the name of the last song?
+Jakub Lonsky Will the circle be unbroken

Dee-liscious !!

Darrel wrote the song.
@@mrvootie1 I don't think Darrell wrote that. It's an old folk song others have covered, including Darrell.
@@foreverdm7000 he wrote that about finding his family history in Kentucky, it's a cool story if you want to look it up
K ..swar?? French
Brad paisley covered it
