I find it funny that Doug has proven time and time again that he knows exactly what he's doing more so than most. He has shown that he has a calculated and well thought out plan for everything he does, and yet people still criticize him. I would love to see the couch supervisors do half as good as he does. Give yourself more credit Doug!
I don't know why people always criticize your work, I think you do an excellent job. That was one big root! The tree it went to must have been huge! Great finds with the metal detector Ashley! My husband loves to metal detect so he was all excited to see you had one.
I always click on your videos immediately! Why? Because you two do great work and I like to see the improvements and progress on the renovations! Keep up the good work!
my only concern would be tie downs for your house and those piers due to hurricanes and tornados. But those are easy to add on. And one other thing, those random coins you found, it could be more treasure than you know. On a property clean up for one of my older relatives a couple years ago, they found an old penny well/pool. Like one of those things at a hotel where you through a penny in and make a wish. It had been buried for years, apparently my relatives grandparents put one in because they liked it at a hotel but it got buried in an old, overgrown part of the yard. They found some surviving old pennies that if they were mint would have totaled like $6,000 in value, but even in the condition recovered they made over $2,000. So check out those old coins.
Doug and Ashley, you have done an awesome job in prepping for rebuilding your porch/deck. I love how Maverick was working alongside you, Doug, helping to make sure the cement was going inside the bricks. He is such a great helper. God bless your family!
Doug, you’re doing a great job. I give you so much credit for the methods you use to make your house better. Other people may criticize but please don’t listen. You should take stock in your great work ethic and wonderful attitude.
LOL! Doug, the look on Ashley's face when you stumbled over your words was priceless! Don't be fiddle dinkin' around bro'! That made me laugh Ashley! Look forward to the porch build.
You are doing great work on your renovation project. As I can see, you are building the structures more than adequately to accomplish their goals. There will always be someone second guessing or armchair quarterbacking in whatever you do. Just human nature to do so. Love your videos and always looking forward to the new ones. I'm in Central Florida, just north of Orlando, enjoying this weather as you all are. Good choice you made in moving to FL. Stay safe and may God bless you and your family. Rick
Years ago I recall watching your family using metal detectors in a park. I thought that was such a wholesome, fun family activity. It's nice to see that activity continues. Plus fun treasures! The house is looking great! The porch piers are built to last, nothing flimsy. It was probably easier to dig the trench than 4 individual areas for the piers plus it's easier to maneuver. I always learn so much from your channel.
While you guys have always done things slightly different, you are thorough with your choices and you both have knowledge and experience. On the slight chance you make a mistake, you are able to problem solve efficiently. When I first watched you, I admit I questioned a lot. But after watching you guys for a few years now, I no longer question why you do things! You guys are smart and think things through so well from planning to executing!
I don't know if I'd call this a criticism, but I think I would have doubled the size of the porch while you have the chance. It would give your family an "outside" room large enough for some chairs and/or a porch swing, along with enough room for a small table to maybe eat at.
I think you always do a great job, not sure why anyone would complain about how you do things. Seems to me you always do research on things and do things right. Great job.
I love that you tell people that you're just doing things your way, not as a tutorial... hopefully it keeps the 'knowitalls' contained. Love seeing so much progress. Cute seeing maverick... wants to work with Dad.
Your videos never disappoint. I always enjoy seeing where you’re at with this renovation. You make it look so easy but I am not fooled, I think it’s still a lot of hard work. It’s just so satisfying to see the improvements you’re making.
I dig that Doug dug! Looking good, that tree root was crazy, I got excited when I saw it move a bit. The warmer weather in Florida is really working to your advantage. Having the right equipment helps also. Ashley’s treasure hunting is fun to watch. See you in the next one. That’s a smart way to build piers. Maverick is smart enough to keep out of dads way when he’s working and at the same time willing to help. He will definitely grow up to have good work ethic’s.
As always you guys do a great job. Doug is so talented and Ashley, his always dependable sidekick, doing fun things like searching for treasure!! Keep up the great work and ignore the naysayers.
Dang. I need to "Rent a Doug" I paid someone to "fix my porch". They were supposed to replace rotting wood and come to find out 2 years later they only painted over the problem areas. At least when Doug does a job he does it right! Can't wait for the next post.
I did a learning program with Bunnings a few years ago and found that the tradesmen finish, I look at it, see their mistakes, and think, "I could have done better". They seem to rely on people being ignorant.
Wow you both are neat as pins on everything you do and strong as an ox. I’m so excited to see your porch!! Surely y’all don’t listen to negative Nancy’s?? Lol Do you ever wonder if the past owners are watching you and their mouths dropped in amazement?? Lol Can’t wait for the next video, man I panic when I don’t see ya more than a few days 🤣😅😂. God Bless ❤️
I have no criticisms or suggestions....never! You guys have it under control, and I'm impressed! Your channel has been a pleasure to watch for a long time now. You never disappoint! Keep it up!!
I am always amazed at how Doug and Ashley are so precise when fitting their pieces together. Just because someone makes a comment or a suggestion doesn’t mean that they are being negative or disrespectful, it just means that they have possibly seen something from a diyferrent perspective or they were taught a method. They have said in the past numerous times that this is not a how to but more of a how we did that video. I’m am 64 years old and work with Habitat for Humanity in my local community my Dad was a Union Carpenter and taught me “THE RIGHT WAY” to build. I am learning all the time new ways of construction, When shown these I have learned to not take it personally. But to understand that the new practices have been perfected from old practices and are more production oriented. When I Question something I am trying to gain knowledge. I am not sure if you have any building background or not but if you do and you see something you aren’t sure about I think it would be wrong not to ask about it whether it changes anything Doug and Ashley does or helps another viewer make a decision on their own project. With that said if someone is making an insulting comment or being rude that’s a diyferrent issue.. thanks for your comment, The kids get paid for all comments either positive or negative.
No criticism from my neck of the woods, lol!! It's your home - you see fit to do it however you want to. You two really do work well together. That little Maverick is so, so cute - helping dada to put the cement down the hole, lol!!! Too cute. Have a great days you guys. I really like how you did those reinforcements for your porch. Good idea!
I have watched you for a very long time. I enjoy your sincerity and love. Though I am older I enjoy listening and at times I wish I was going to redo a home. But that is out of the question. I will live through you and keep watching. Love to you all.
It looks like that corner that you insulated and rebuilt may have rotted out due to water from that roofline valley. Keep that in mind and build a longer overhang over the new porch so you solve that water runoff problem.
Each person wants to do their own house a specific way. As long as it works and its safe thats all that matters. I think your porch piers are fine the way they are. Better then the way it was. At least it has support unlike before. I cant wait for the next video.
I'm SOOOO happy you didn't edit the blooper 🤣🤣🤣 so cute & Ashley's face was everything!!! Ya'll too cute! I love how Maverick was Daddy's helper! He's getting old enough to be your sidekick ❤ I enjoy your work ethic & standards! Keep up the awesome job! I also would love to see a wrap around porch to connect the bedroom door to the porch! 🙏😊
I've no complaints or recommendations or suggestions. You're doing wonderfully! I lied. I do have a recommendation and a suggestion - KEEP GOING! ;-) Thank you for the video and thank you for your work! It is appreciated!
Doug & Ashley, I have enjoyed EVERY video you posted!! I’ve been watching y’all for years now - and you are very impressive ! I don’t know what the building codes are in Fl , or if THIS is your forever home -- but I’d bet my bottom dollar that you could build a new home , of your design, BY YOURSELVES !! ❤️❤️
That was totally the better idea digging a full trench to work in instead of fighting inside a hole. Gonna be nice to see a real not-questionable porch, and steps! I don't think y'all've had steps in forever *LOL* I was a little concerned seeing you do that insulation with your bare hands. Rockwool doesn't seem near as bad as fiberglass stuff, but wanted to mention it, since you work with it quite a bit. Hey, case you guys don't know, have Ashley check that '76 quarter, if it's got an S mint mark (kinda rare though), it'd be 40% silver. ;-)
You guys are doing Great! Don't worry about what others think. You totally inspire me to think that with the right tools, I could learn to do such things!
As I have stated before, you and Ashley aren’t new to remodeling, so do it your way and let the negativity go away like the big root you had to cut ; cast it aside! This is your home, not ours! I think you’re doing an incredible job working to get things like you need and want it to be! Always remember that no one is perfect or can please everyone! Dig it Doug? May God’s Blessings be with you and your family today and always! ❤️
I think that using the metal detector is kind of a metaphor for who you two are…beneath the rubble, earth, and tangled roots in life, you find treasure. Whether it’s a glass Unicom or coins…or the great bones of a house that you rehabilitate, you two find the value hidden beneath the surface. Well done Ashley and Doug!
You know I said heck yea when i saw the Metal Detector out haha,, thats awesome!! I was hoping one day you guys could swing and look around the property!! that was one of your better days and you wernt even trying!! LOL great job!! awesome progress too!!!
Looks so much better! Like Sam on Greenacre Homestead says, you don’t need a degree in Housewrapology! Or pierology! I know it will be awesome! Can’t wait to see the next step! Darla

Don't mind the criticism...some people just can't help themselves...after you have learned about it yourself pretty much taught yourself what and how to do it and all that you accomplished over the years...... I look at all the homes you darn near rebuilt and the coops you have done and the clever ideas you came up with and can only say....no one should be criticizing you. I think you have had and finished more homes and properties then most. I love to see what you will think of and come up with next ......Can't wait to see the next video !
Don’t worry about wht folks say, do wht works for you , I think your doing a marvelous job , I’ve been following you guys for a pretty good while now saw first hand what you can do ,, I kn your place gonna turn out beautiful 👍🏻😊❤️🙋🏼♀️
I know you too are very happy where you are. You both look younger happier healthier more at peace and yeah you very good at what you do as a team but there's quite a few of you guys out there where the husband and wife are getting along and will work together so that's cool it's really cool to see so much can get together if the team is harnessed right, I love your pic of house and I love how you guys are bringing it's it's own quality out of itself cuz it's very cute it definitely needed rescuing though,
Hello Maverick. You are such a cutie. Love your bulldog tenacity, Ashley and Doug. Noticed the dirt is finally getting dried out. You two, just pat yourselves on the back, for all your hard work.
🤣🤣🤣 I love the title!!! That wasn't a root, it was an underground tree 🤣🤣 Another great video!!! Thanks again for sharing your journey. Hugs and love from Mississippi ❤
My favorite home renovators hard workers and eager to learn and adapt from mistakes! Your home is what you want out of it and your hard work will only increase its value in the future! Can’t wait till next video!!!
Hi Doug, We watched todays video along with the last 3 videos too, we have been busy, we are doing some construction here at the house too.!, we are building a mini Apartment that will be used when we have visitors, nothing big a one bedroom, living room, bath, laundry room & kitchen, so that is why you have not seen any comments recently from us. But I wanted to take the time to say hello and to comment on your awesome work, as always you do excellent work and in most cases your work is over kill, but nothing wrong with that. we love what you are acomplishing in your own renovation looks awesome. Also Carmen & I hope the you Ashley, and the Kids had a nice safe & healthy New Year...! talk to you soon From your friends in Lima Peru George & Carmen
I know you both like the fact that you can work outside year round instead of just a few months in the year, good job. Wow a lot done in one video. I love the finds, it’s so much fun to find different things on your own property. Take care and be well.
How exciting to get porch build. Its a blessing you're always interested in doing it right the first time and not cutting corners. That wood was in pretty bad shape. Good job, Doug. Looks amazing.
Ashley, you are a treasure hunter and a girl after my own heart.❤
I've learned from watching you that there is a solution to every problem. You two are an inspiration.
God be with you!
I Guess you could say your now a dentist and just did your 1st “ROOT CANAL”
Ooh my aching back!

Haha. Too funny

Your foreman Mr. Maverick was doing a great work on the job site😃👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You are doing great as usual. Keep up the good work. Stay positive.
I don't know why people always criticize your work, I think you do an excellent job. That was one big root! The tree it went to must have been huge! Great finds with the metal detector Ashley! My husband loves to metal detect so he was all excited to see you had one.

Doug, you’re doing a great job. I give you so much credit for the methods you use to make your house better. Other people may criticize but please don’t listen.
You should take stock in your great work ethic and wonderful attitude.
My only complaint....I would love more videos! Thank you!
Don't worry about what people say you guys are awesome. The couch carpenters will survive .
Good job on the footers. You sweet boy was adorable helping Dad keep it neat. Y’all are a good Team.
LOL! Doug, the look on Ashley's face when you stumbled over your words was priceless! Don't be fiddle dinkin' around bro'! That made me laugh Ashley! Look forward to the porch build.
LoL @fiddle dinkin'
I ENJOY WATCHING DOING YOUR OWN THING
Yes, I ENJOYED the video. Isn't it wonderful to be able to be doing this in January?
Yes, it's great.
Love metal detecting!

A collective “Woohoo!!” On that extraction!

And your children are so sweet..Maverick helping Dad.
Your videos never disappoint. I always enjoy seeing where you’re at with this renovation. You make it look so easy but I am not fooled, I think it’s still a lot of hard work. It’s just so satisfying to see the improvements you’re making.
Ashley you will be able to grow the very best vegetable garden imaginable, your soil (dirt) is so rich and dark, it looks like compost WOW!
That's what I was thinking!!

I like how you do the piers. A hell of alot easier this way ans stronger possibly
It's looking good so far. I think digging a trench was a fantastic idea, it made it so much easier for you.
As always you guys do a great job. Doug is so talented and Ashley, his always dependable sidekick, doing fun things like searching for treasure!! Keep up the great work and ignore the naysayers.
Y'all should be digging and making a French Drain all around your home as it flooded once already too! Great work!

Maverick is such a good helper!
I bet Maverick will have a blast when he is able to drive the excavator. Things are looking good!
Your methods always look good to me Doug......if only a lot more people would take the time and care that you do......Well done !!!
Yes, love the title and can't wait to see how nice the deck turns out. You always do amazing work.
Maverick is a good helper. Piers are more secure than before. Good work.
You guys are doing Great! Don't worry about what others think. You totally inspire me to think that with the right tools, I could learn to do such things!

That random pan thing has really come in handy!
I'm glad we brought it with us when we moved :)
Nicely said.
I'm glad to see that you posted cuz when I saw the tornadoes yesterday I was worried
We're doing good over here :)
You know I said heck yea when i saw the Metal Detector out haha,, thats awesome!! I was hoping one day you guys could swing and look around the property!! that was one of your better days and you wernt even trying!! LOL great job!! awesome progress too!!!
I love your videos. I laughed when Doug got his words mixed up. 😃 I tell you, you guys don’t do anything half way. You always know what you are doing.
Maverick what a great helper you are!! You are getting so big and strong 💪
That tree root was huge! Can’t wait to see the new porch build, going to be awesome!
Finally back to the ol roots of metal detecting 😍😅
Love seeing Ashley metal detect!
Looks so much better! Like Sam on Greenacre Homestead says, you don’t need a degree in
Housewrapology! Or pierology!
I know it will be awesome!
Can’t wait to see the next step!
Darla
Ashley’s face when you said suggestions ,that was brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m “diggin’” your digging, Doug! Keep up the good work!
That was some really great progress, with awesome attitude after finding rot on the outside wall.
Metal Monday!!! That made me happy watching Ashley detect. Also I remember at your first house you had to dig all that dirt with a shovel. I bet you wish you had the backhoe.
I think I saw a place for an outdoor outlet on the new part of the wall. That is a great idea as I have them on all sides of my house for power tools, compressor, or anything else I want to plug in. Good thinking. Also it can be used for a BBQ grill.
You do excellent work. So excellent that it is relaxing to watch. Well done!
Thank you!
Always excited to watch a new video. Thanks for inviting us in to watch your progress. Truly inspiring.
Glad your family was spared from the tornado.
Don’t worry about wht folks say, do wht works for you , I think your doing a marvelous job , I’ve been following you guys for a pretty good while now saw first hand what you can do ,, I kn your place gonna turn out beautiful 👍🏻😊❤️🙋🏼♀️
Wow! Doug! You got good eyes!
Well done. I can’t wait for the next video!

Ahhhh.... Loved the "Pros & Cons" vs "Piers & Coins" wordplay. Very sharp.

ive learned so much watching your series... not that I'll ever build anything but it answers questions in my mind about how things are or can be done.
