This is the kind of song that sets Home Free apart from others. They are all virtuosos in their own right no doubt, but unlike other a capella groups who rely on theatrics or over the top vocal calesthenics, these guys can just sit and sing and blow people away just with that tight, beautiful sound. To me, songs like this are more entertaining than the ones with more gymnastic moments. Awesome, and the video was a one shot, no edits. Simple and mind-blowing at the same time.

Be very careful not to watch their Mayday cover too soon. You've listened to four Home Free songs but you still need to watch to a few more videos and get a clear memory of each singer and their vocal placement in the group. Tim Faust - Bass, last note Ring Of Fire, bass solo Man of Constant Sorrow, lead My Church. Austin Brown - High Tenor, lead Man of Constant Sorrow and When a Man Loves a Woman, accents My Church. Rob Lundquist - Tenor, lead End of the Road and Honey I'm Good, Adam Chance - Baritone, Lead Some Girls Do.
But to hear them all: Helplessly Hoping, Auld Lang Syne, and How Great Thou Art (even Adam Rupp has a solo in How Great). Once you know their voices and where they fit only then watch Mayday or you won't be as impressed as you should.
For fun watch Champagne Taste (on a Beer Budget), The Butts Remix, and All About The Bass (for best result watch Megan Trainhors original first).

Everything Home Free does has a purpose and meaning. I love how they feature all of their members and not just one. Adam does sing to and other members can also do some of the beat boxing. If you notice in this song Adam was singing part of the course when he was not doing the beat boxing. This is not your ordinary group their ability to complement each other and show case each other is amazing. There is no superstar ego tripping here just good down home boys and that is why I'm proud to call myself a Home Fry.

Yes, the drum kit guy does sing - watch How Great thou Art for a beautiful sample of his voice. One of the things that makes them so great is the way they let everyone take the lead based on what is needed to enhance the song(cover). They also create original content - Champagne taste on a beer budget is fun and California Dreamin is nostalgic.

  • @jenniferlandry5767
    @jenniferlandry5767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

They do, in fact, all sing. Here is a breakdown for you:
Austin Brown, long hair, ginger, sings the entire tenor range and then some.
Rob Lundquist, beard and glasses, same, but can go lower than Austin, into high baritone.
Adam Rupp, beatboxer extraordinare, also a tenor, has a lovely voice when they do 5-part harmony.
Adam Chance, short hair on the sides, looks a little bit like Leonardo DiCaprio, they call him Chance to avoid confusion, baritone-bass. If you hear Tim taking lead and there is still a solid bass line going on, that's Chance covering the bass line.
Tim Foust, gray streak in the hair, absolutely the best country bass singer since Richard Sturbin from the Oak Ridge Boys, part dragon.
They swap leads out at will. Because of Tim's massive 5-octave range, and the other guys also having wider vocal ranges than normal, in 5 singers they essentially have 5 tenors, 3-ish baritones, and 2 basses. It lets them arrange songs however they want to get the effect they want. They are amazing and by far my favorite band of all time, and I only just found them around the beginning of the pandemic. Sorry for writing War and Peace here but I love making new Home Fries.

the 'drum kit guy' is Adam Rupp.. he does sing a fifth harmony part in some songs and rarely a lead part, wonderful tenor voice, you can hear him do a tiny lead vocal in the songs Quarantine and How Great Thou Art, he is the 'one man band'.

Adam has a beautiful tenor voice, but he doesn't sing very often - prefers to beatbox. He does sing harmony in this one. Right after Austin takes the lead, the beatboxing drops out & Adam sings harmony with the rest, then jumps back into beatboxing. BTW, in their concerts, Adam usually does a "drum solo" & shows off his beatboxing. There are several videos available of him doing so. Most were shot by people attending the concerts so the audio & video aren't always great, but it still shows you what all he can do. If you want to hear some of their original music, check out "Land of the Free" which was released earlier this summer. It was cowritten by Tim Foust (the bass) several years ago. Enjoying your reactions.

Just an FYI about the history of this band... Adam Rupp, the one who does all the sound affects, and his brother Chris are the one's who started the group, they are from Minnesota... Tim Foust, the deep base is actually from Texas, the band found him on a you tube video, and they got together somehow.... Rob, the guy with the thick beard and mustache that you really like, I don't remember what state he's from, but if I remember correctly, he had just left a band he was with and then found Home Free and jointed them. Austin Brown, the high tenor is from Georgia.... he joined the group after the guys met him aboard a Cruise ship they were performing on, Adam Chance (goes by the name Chance), replaced Chris Rupp when Chris decided he wanted to try and go solo and he did pretty good for a while, haven't really caught up with him recently.... but Chance was already a part of the group but behind the scenes kind of thing... before Chance joined the group permanently, they were a band that won the competition on the show "The Sing Off" on TV... ...

I just caught up on your journey down the Home Free rabbit hole so far! I'm 7 years in and they still blow me away. I've seen them 18 times live so far and I can't wait for them to eventually get back to Europe so I can go to as many shows possible, because they are actually even better live than they are in production. Great reactions so far, keep them coming, and as far as to which of their songs to react to you can't go wrong, but you have now heard Austin singing lead a few times and a bit of the others so maybe "End of the Road", with Rob, the bearded wonder, killing it on main lead. To hear more of Chance, who started this song out, the baritone, I love Cover Me Up. To hear more of Tim, the bass singer, "Everybody Walking This Land, and to hear more of Adam, aka human drumkit, our freak of nature, Folsom Prison Blues is a good one.
The thing with these guys is that they are so talented, skilled and diverse that they can keep surprising us, and they do with love, appreciation, joy, humour and style! Thank you! 🥰🙏

This video actually has a very funny part (Patreon). In the behind-the-scenes video Tim, Austin, Rob and Adam decided to play a practical joke on Chance (since Chance was outside and wouldn't know what they were up to). In the beginning of the video when Chance walks into the building he finds the other four guys sitting on their stools with their pants pulled down around their ankles. Tim actually removed his jeans completely. Austin removed his shirt instead of his pants because he said his pants were to tight and he couldn't remove them fast enough. Next, this demonstrates Chance's sense of humor. He walks in and doesn't flinch, laugh or skip a beat. He simply starts to unbuckle his pants and goes with the flow!

Adam Rupp sings a solo part in How Great Thou Art . Amazing to listen to their vocals and the beautiful scenery from Austria. Go do a reaction to that song.
It will give you an good idea of each of their vocals - at least for that hymn.

If you want to go back to the "start" of the wider popularity of Home Free look for their performances from the Sing Off- a reality acapella competition. You'll hear them live but with the best possible sound recording. Those performances have founding member (and bro of founding member vocal percussionist Adam Rupp) in them. Chris went his separate way and then Adam Chance (called Chance) joined the band - he was the one who sang lead first in this song. There really is not a bad Home Free song, so enjoy!

The greatest 5-man band EVER!! Amazing how well they harmonize with them being from such different places from Min x2, Texas, Georgia and Alabama.

Hold off on reacting to their version of MAYDAY until you’ve done quite a few of their works. Mayday has a great surprise in it and you’ll completely miss it if you do that one before you are very familiar with them.

Thanks so much for this reaction. Home Free really knows how to bring a song to a better place. The guys are a ton of fun and do amazing work on all their music. Whatever is recommended will not disappoint. If you have time one of the older songs...Good Ol' Boy Good Time...or...In The Blood. Up to you. Thanks again.
