    Watching from Australia. I love the advice about knowing the jargon. That actually makes a lot of sense cos I've been curious about what it takes to start as a regulatory medical writer.

    You are so inspiring to us all non white students of the academia! I so badly needed this. I was wondering of you would consider give advice in private paid sessions!? I am working on an independent project that is extremely challenging and would love some professional assistance from time to time. Would this be possible, or maybe know a colleague as knowledgeable as you are who would be able to? (I am asking here because the amount people who stole money with fake advice and feedback is unpleasantly fairly high).
    Thanks in advance for your time if you happen to read this comment.
    Bets regards!

    How does one educate themselves on how to become a regulatory writer?

    • @TrippingOverParadise

      I have written a masters thesis, but how do you learn enough about regulatory writing to get your foot in the door?

    • @TheBoldPhD

      Hello! I am creating some resources now BUT, I do know that the American Medical Writers Association has some material for becoming a regulatory writer. Perhaps check out their website.

    Hi ya, I’m watching from the U.K. PhD in Biology (Life sciences). I’m just wondering what experience counts? As a phd I have done a lot of editing, proofreading, fact checking and coaching undergraduate health students with their thesis. Would this count as experience for a career in medical writing ?

    • @TheBoldPhD
      @TheBoldPhD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Oge. It could count but usually that is just the foundation. Companies that employ medical writers want to be able to see that you can write the types of documents THEY NEED. And those document needs are varied. Depending on the company, as a medical writer, you could be writing regulatory documents, highly technical white papers, public-facing educational content, to name just a few.
      These all require different skill sets.
      So, while writing an academic paper in academia is SOME evidence of your writing, a company that needs you to understand the pharmaceutical regulatory processes of several countries and write regulatory documents, for instance, may not be entirely impressed with what you did in academia.
      Now, if you can convince them that you understand what THEY WANT by proving to them on your resume and during the interview process that you have a clear understanding of their expectations and can meet them, it is likely you will land the role.
      I also recommend that writers have a few samples of those types of documents you have written on hand.

      @@TheBoldPhD Dear Gertrude, many thanks for your detailed response and for all the amazing content you have on this channel. I have been binge watching the videos and getting so much knowledge. I am based in the UK and I presume medical writing has the same principles worldwide. However, if you know of any UK based medical writers/content please do share. Thank you for all the tips, I'll be working on them.
