I find it unfortunate that the streaming service expectation has eroded down to just the video itself, rather than a whole packaged presentation of the extra material as well. Commentaries, behind the scenes, outtakes, and deleted/unused footage are always SO fascinating to check out, but nowhere seems to have a good presentation of that content digitally.

Gabriel and the people in the club with gold in their eyes were Nephilim (half angel half human) while the ones with red in their eyes were Cambion (half demon half human). Constantine's assistant was turned into a Nephilim by God as a reward for his service.
It's an "American comic" in the sense that DC/Vertigo publish it but "Hellblazer" couldn't be more British in most other respects (Constantine is English, the setting is _mostly_ the UK and the sensibility is _deeply_ cynical, bordering on nihilist - he's the kind of "good guy" that's more "the least bad guy" and though you'd want him on your side, you'd also never turn your back to him :).

If you like the story, there was also a TV series that only lasted one season, but had a really good take on it. While Keanu is good in this, the TV series had him played by Matt Ryan, and I think it was more accurate to the comic.

I never considered this a "scary movie" - I mean there is action and some jumps, but it always seemed more... Adventure or something to me. Watching Addie (and others) go into it fearing what is coming is... odd to me. But definitely a good reaction to watch. Another Adorable Addie Adventure.

In 2022 they green lit a second movie Akiva Goldsman has said the script is done. And NBC had a Constantine series that starred Matt Ryan. Matt also played Constantine in the Arrowverse (though not the same Constantine as the NBC series as that is considered a different Earth)

If I recall correctly, in the comic what John does is he sells his soul to several Lords of Hell at the same time (of course without them knowing about it), which means that if he dies all of them would have a claim to his soul and would have to wage war against each other for it or be shown as unworthy of their title of Lord (of Hell). Not willing to start a war in Hell that would weaken them against Heaven, they basically make John immortal, so instead of dropping the smoking habit, John starts smoking even more with the knowledge that it can't do anything to him. It's more convoluted and more cynical but also pretty badass. I haven't read past that point but I imagine they revert his immortality at some point because a protagonist that cannot die usually makes for pretty low stakes in most stories.

Hey, Addie! Constantine is a character created by Alan Moore who first appeared in "Swamp Thing". He then appeared in his own long-running "Hellblazer" title. He was played to perfection by Matt Ryan in the short-lived TV series but the actor reprised the role for "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Justice League Dark". A female variant of Constantine also shows up in Neil Gaiman's "Sandman". This movie is fantastic and Keanu is great in it but an American Constantine is as blasphemous as an American James Bond to comic readers! That said, I'd love this film to get a sequel!

This movie reunited Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz after Chain Reaction (1996). And despite the fact that Keanu's look is light-years from the comics, he nailed. Exactly like Djimon Hounsou, Tilda Swinton and a so-much-brief Peter Stormare, giving a masterclass of evil. It's a great fantasy horror movie, and I'm dying (not literally) to watch the sequel, when it be premiered. Some day.

Addie, I highly recommend "Parenthood" (1989), which features a young Keanu Reeves and a very young Joaquin Phoenix. Starring Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen, Diane Wiest and Rick Moranis. It's a great comedy about a 4-generation family dealing with kids, grandkids, divorce, teenagers...the usual insanity!

Well if we're being technical, Conan was a pulp character first. The original films owe more to the stories, which meant Marvel couldn’t come claiming John Milius was ripping off Savage Sword of Conan.

There's a TV Series with Matt Ryan as Constantine which is pretty good.
If I recall correctly, in the comic what John does is he sells his soul to several Lords of Hell at the same time (of course without them knowing about it), which means that if he dies all of them would have a claim to his soul and would have to wage war against each other for it or be shown as unworthy of their title of Lord (of Hell). Not willing to start a war in Hell that would weaken them against Heaven, they basically make John immortal, so instead of dropping the smoking habit, John starts smoking even more with the knowledge that it can't do anything to him. It's more convoluted and more cynical but also pretty badass. I haven't read past that point but I imagine they revert his immortality at some point because a protagonist that cannot die usually makes for pretty low stakes in most stories.

Yes indeed, Keanu Reeves usually chooses John as his character's name, but not always, for example in "The Matrix", as Neo, or Thomas A Anderson, his father's name is John Anderson. Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz were together in "Chain Reaction" (1996, with Morgan Freeman, Brian Cox and Fred Ward from "Tremors"), very good film. There's also a bathtub scene between them. Peter Stormare (Lucifer in "Constantine") is so good as the baddie. I'd recommend him in "8MM" (1999, with Nicolas Cage, Joaquin Phoenix, James Gandolfini).

Hey, Addie! Constantine is a character created by Alan Moore who first appeared in "Swamp Thing". He then appeared in his own long-running "Hellblazer" title.
He was played to perfection by Matt Ryan in the short-lived TV series but the actor reprised the role for "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Justice League Dark".
A female variant of Constantine also shows up in Neil Gaiman's "Sandman".
This movie is fantastic and Keanu is great in it but an American Constantine is as blasphemous as an American James Bond to comic readers!
That said, I'd love this film to get a sequel!

This movie reunited Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz after Chain Reaction (1996). And despite the fact that Keanu's look is light-years from the comics, he nailed. Exactly like Djimon Hounsou, Tilda Swinton and a so-much-brief Peter Stormare, giving a masterclass of evil. It's a great fantasy horror movie, and I'm dying (not literally) to watch the sequel, when it be premiered. Some day.

I like this movie well enough, but it does make me wish they’d let Matt Ryan play him in the sequel or reboot. Ryan’s played him the last 10 years on television and in animated films and has done such a great job capturing his sarcastic, roguish nature. 🙂
There are plenty of franchises like iZombie, Men in Black, Conan The Barbarian, Walking Dead, The Sandman, Lucifer, Bloodshot, etc., which started as Comics. Constantine also showed up in Sandman and CW's Arrow, and he briefly had a network series
Well if we're being technical, Conan was a pulp character first. The original films owe more to the stories, which meant Marvel couldn’t come claiming John Milius was ripping off Savage Sword of Conan.
