My wish for you is that you can always have camping filled years, I wish I had a lot more time off to get out there than I do, I love to camp with family, but there is something so peaceful and satisfying about a solo. A two night solo really puts my head back together when things are hard. And when things are easy it’s just a great time to connect with the outdoors, I love the way a quieter solo camp allows the forest reveal itself.
Jodi, after backpacking for 15+ years I am FINALLY doing my first BWCA trip starting Sept. 10th - 23rd. 13 nights, 14 days. Leaving out of sawbill and covering about 130 miles. I cannot wait. Your videos about gear, what to expect, etc. have been a realistic approach to planning this trip. So thank you for that! You had one amazing trip, and I cannot wait to experience it myself. Again, thank you and God bless!
Jodi, this was such a peaceful video. Thank you. I was drawn to the idea of travelling solo in a solo canoe. You make it look like it could be ok to go alone.
I have been a long time subscriber back to the days when you were in the peace corp but have never posted because I always watched it on TV so I just wanted to touch base let you know I probably found you by searching boundary waters in the beginning because I did 4 or 5 trips there. 30 of us from our Mankato youth church group went up a number of times from 1977 into the early 80s. I'm 61 and living in Florida and spent summers at a cabin north of Aitkin, Minnesota growing up and have enjoyed your cabin project and various trips around the state. I remember so many of those spots, including the North Shore and Itasca State Park. Best wishes on the marriage and instant family you have been blessed with. God bless!
Thanks for making these videos. I've been sending them to my daughter(in her early 20's) hoping to inspire her to do some wilderness camping, canoeing, hiking. I wish I would have introduced it to her earlier in her life, but I'm more or less a newbie myself. Great videos, great advice and very inspiring. Thank you again.
On the yoke...you guys could slot one hole in the direction of the yoke and keep the other one just round. That way it can expand and contract and it will still bolt on and off no problem.
As always Jodi, awesome video. Perfect mix of light music, narration and the sounds of nature. Somehow we got to get you up off the ground. If you don't think you could sleep in a hammock, you haven't tried the right one yet.
Thank you! I’d like to try hammock camping but I don’t want to spend the money on a good setup and then end up not liking it.. so I just haven’t tried yet.
nice hack about the yoke! :) what an AWESOME trip u made!!! nice spot too!! :D ive been canoe camping twice, and WHAT an AMAZING experince by connecting with the nature, animals, silence!! :D im rally glad to see how much u enjoyed! :) TX for sharing my friend!!! :D
Way to go Jodi, you got this❤I enjoy seeing you work through things that will always pop up🎉 my hopes are you get to do a weeker and then a two weeker😁❤cant wait till the next adventure😃
That yoke is overpowered! You cannot be defeated.🤘 I was just there 8 days ago! (did 7 days, EP 25) I already miss BWCA soo much! I'm doing 2 weeks next year in late August. Still haven't decided which EP?
Jodi, another great video - thank you! Could you share ~ what solo canoe you found/purchased? weight? how did it handle? and do you think would it work for a 2 week solo trip? I'm 67 and haven't been back to the BWCA in 45 years but I'm planning a solo trip for October, really looking forward to it!
Uh oh. When the forest goes silent it means that a bigfoot is nearby! 😄. Or at least according to what Base Camp Chris says over on his channel. But it's also usually accompanied by a foul odor. Very cool to have some moose sightings. Not as common as it once was
Hey Jodi, Wonderful video and it looks like you had a nice time. I love canoeing as well. I have an old 17 foot aluminum and I also recently picked up a kayak paddle for my rubber raft and thought it would be easier for the canoe as well. It works okay but I agree will probably work better with a smaller canoe. I am looking to get a smaller canoe that's lighter to haul and maneuver like a 10-12 foot fiberglass. I have never been to the BWCA, but my wife and I love the North Shore. We try to get up there in early May and late September, but we haven't made it up there in over a year, hoping to get there this fall. Anyway, congrats on your marriage! Praying you have a wonderful life together. I enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing with us!🙂
Enjoyed the video, watching these just takes me back to the Boundary Waters. I hope that you can mention where you are. I'm always curious about your entry point and what lakes or rivers that you are paddling. I had a Moose sighting many years ago very similar to yours in this video. All the weeds that you were dealing with, it seemed that the Lake/River you were on was pretty shallow.
What make and model is your solo canoe? Nice video. You do not look old enough to be married, young genes forever. We use kayak paddles canoeing, certainly adventure racing. More efficiebt imho. Great as spares too w regular paddles too in tandem canoes. Beautiful area up there. Thanks for sharing.
what put in point did you go in and what lake did you stay at. I did my first BWCA trip this summer and saw the pictographs. Entry point 31 and lots of portages.
Most of my permits are booked about a week before each trip. I just take whatever permit is available. I’ve never had an issue getting a permit, there’s always something available. This year I booked one permit back in January when permits opened. I still didn’t get the permit I was hoping for, but it worked out.

Thank you so much. I agree about solo camping. It’s a whole different experience. I notice the plants and animals so much more.

Solo trips are intimidating at first but they are amazing.

Thank you for commenting. You’ve been watching for a while! I’m glad you are able to revisit old memories through these videos. 😊
Thank you for the video. Looks like a relaxing trip.
It was lovely.
Pizza Rolls/biters! The Tumblehome guys would be proud 👍
It’s easy and delicious!

Thank you for watching! Maybe a father daughter trip is in your future.
Thanks for taking us along!
Looks like it was a really relaxing trip!!! Thanks for sharing
It was such a nice trip. Thank you!
So nice and quiet there. I have a 14 foot packer and I love how much easier it is to use alone. As I get older, things seem to get heavier.
On the yoke...you guys could slot one hole in the direction of the yoke and keep the other one just round. That way it can expand and contract and it will still bolt on and off no problem.

Good luck on your trip!
This is my kind of adventure
Canoe camping in the north woods is amazing.
So cool! I'm working up the courage to do a solo trip myself. This is my inspiration! Thanks!
I hope you have a good trip!
Great video, thanks for bringing us. Have you or Cory ever seen Northern Lights on any of your trips?
I have, a long time ago.

Those moose are would’ve scared me too! I think you’re pretty brave for heading out to fish!

There probably was a Bigfoot! I heard so much noise at night in the water. Sounded like fish jumping but could have been Bigfoot going for a swim🤷♀️.

You do a great job filming 🎥 love the woods. Wish I would have time like you do to go on trips.
Thank you!! It’s nice to live fairly close and to have my photography/videography business that allows me to carve out time for trips 😊
No I saw the mom moose. Thanks for pointing that out.
It was such a cool experience.
Grewat job jodi so peaceful 😊
Thank you!
What Dagger Canoe is that you just got? Thank You
I loveeeee your channel 😻❤
Thank you 😊

Yeah it was shallow. Probably why fishing wasn’t great for me. This was Baker lake entry point.
And thank you!

thanks for the videos. What brand maps do you use
True north maps
what put in point did you go in and what lake did you stay at. I did my first BWCA trip this summer and saw the pictographs. Entry point 31 and lots of portages.
Was it the Baker entry point?
Yup
What is your fishing pole brand? Link?
Shakespeare brand. I love it. Cory says it’s too light.
Oh Nelly. Clamps vs. screws are better. Reach out, I can tell you how we did ours.
I’ve had the clamps before. Just trying something new. Obviously still has quirks 😂. Thank you though!
now i see why it's so hard to book in the BWCA. same people booking in advice and not letting others get a chance.
Most of my permits are booked about a week before each trip. I just take whatever permit is available. I’ve never had an issue getting a permit, there’s always something available.
This year I booked one permit back in January when permits opened. I still didn’t get the permit I was hoping for, but it worked out.
