As a guy from Croatia, who wasn't raised with football like you US guys (saw it first on TV in the movie MASH when I was a kid in the late 80s, just got into it a few years ago when the TV coverage started here), this youtube channel helped me A LOT. Learning every day... Thanks, JT.
What are the different "techniques" on the defensive line? 3 technique, 5 technique, etc, and what kinds of players fit best at each technique? Aka people that are shorter? Taller? Quicker? Stronger? Etc.
The techniques essentially mean on what shoulder a D lineman is on of the offensive player. If a Nose Tackle is directly facing the Centre it's called a 0 technique.
Thanks for your informative videos. As I am from Germany, I didn´t knew your way in the NFL until I saw a short film and I am very impressed. Please keep up the good work.
JT, I love the channel! Could you please keep breaking down the Patriots defense as they continue to dismantle their opponents? Im a pats fan so I'm bias but I loved hearing your perspective on the jets/patriots game and think that theres a lot to learn from that type of content. I played football as a young kid but watch more football and pay closer attention than I ever have, now in my 20's. You provide a unique angle and perspective into the game as you break down all these concepts and I'm a much more intelligent fan because of that, thank you!
Continuing with the X vs Z WR question, what does it mean when someone is referred to as a "prototypical X", "prototypical Z", etc.? I assume it takes physical stats like size and speed into account.
Hey JT! Keep it up, I love these new videos were you answer questions. It is a great way to get involved with your fans and it is only a matter of time until your channel is huge. My question is about whether you preferred the numbering system of calling routes or key words or another method? What were pros and cons? Which allowed for more variation without lack of understanding etc.
love every single one of your videos and seeing how unique each offensive system is. every play starts in the trenches and i was curious on the different kinds of pass protections and what the different names of them mean?
Hi JT, thx for elucidating the 12-personnel thing for me! Last week I was in London for the TEX-JAGs game and tried to put the knowledge into practice! Watching the game I wondered about the following. Besides the players there's so much staff on the sideline. What do they all do, e.g. why an (offensive) play-caller, when there is a coordinator. Why a coordinator when there is a head coach... So who controls what?
Loving the knowledge. While I was deployed a couple years ago I got interested in scouting college players coming into the league. Can you list some of the things a QB might show on tape that non scouts might be missing? Thanks.
Hey JT, question from Sunday's football game. It was under two minutes in the fourth quarter of the Seahawks vs Falcons game where the Flacons were trailing by 10. After driving down the field to the 27 yard line with 1:17 left in the game, the Falcons decided to kick the field goal and attempt to get the onside kick to then with a touchdown. Although they weren't able to get the onside kick, my question is when a team needs 10 points with no timeouts under two minutes, should teams go for the touchdown while near the redzone and hope to get the field goal after the onside kick or go for the field goal near the red zone and get a touchdown after the onside kick. My Dad thinks by going for a field goal, the coach knows the exact amount of time needed to score a touchdown while if you tried to get a touchdown first, you don't know how much time will be spent. Me on the other hand believes that due to driving it up all the way near the red zone, you have momentum and the defense should be low on energy. Going for a field goal will kill your players momentum and give the other team a break.
Great question. Never thought of both sides in that way. I would normally say go for the TD, because it gives you more options on that second drive if you get the onside kick. You only need to make it to FG range, not a hail mary TD. Although you have less time.
I'd like to see your reaction to Rodger's two incredible throws in the Chiefs game. The one to Kumerow and then Williams for the TD in the right corner.
Hey JT, thanks for more great content. I hope you can keep up the amazing pace. How do the offenses coordinate personal groups and move them on and off the field? How much do teams have to practice this? How is that matched with the play calling? Some teams seem like they’re testing how the defense will react to different matchups so they switch personal a lot but that sounds like it could be error prone.
Hey JT loving the videos. Question about game planning. Each offense has their base plays they run each week but how many new plays or adjustments are installed week to week for specific opponents? 10% 25% 50%?
Hey JT! You are doing great work! As a Denver Broncos fan I've recently become accustomed to watching a revolving door of quarterbacks. Could you help me understand why quarterbacks wash out of the NFL so quickly? Is it poor decision making that can't be corrected? Inability to make throws? A GM/coaching staff giving up too soon? Why doesn't more time in the NFL generally equate to more success?
Hi JT - I can see on TV how a QB goes through his pre snap reads with WR motions etc but can you explain how a post snap read is taught and how it's become complicated with what the defense does in terms of adapting coverage based on route patterns?
Hey JT. Keep up the great education. What is the best way for a receiver to help their qb if he's in trouble? Should you stay on your route where they expect you or come back to the qb?
JT, thanks for your amazing analysis. Learning a lot of the nitty gritty details from you. I wanted to ask when the QB points/calls out the "Mike", "Sam" and "Will" Linebackers why does he do it? For example, I have heard Mahomes call out "58 is the Mike" and then point at him. Does he identify where the blitzes are coming from or is that a way of adjusting your protections? Keep up the good work man. Regards A South African who is stoked that we're in the rugby world cup final.
From my experience, since I'm from India and don't have years of watching experience. They do that to identify potential blitzers and who to block on the run game on the 2 level i.e linebacker level.
Hi JT! Thank you for these videos, I am more and more involved in the game now that I understand better. One concept that I’m still wondering about though. Who decides the play? Once the qb reports it to the rest of the team it can’t be changed, right? Is it possible that the qb notice something in the D’s movements that makes him realize that the play called is going to fail? And if that happens, can he change the play on the fly?
what do you think when you see the CB in the diffrent techniques inside/outside/press. whats the plan when you plan say the outside release for the WR and then the CB plays outside leverage so you propably aint goona get the outside?
If you're playing outside leverage, you're funneling the players inside, where you have help. If you're leverage inside, you're funneling them outside because that's where you're help will be.
@@suyashbhagwat5615 I understand that part but what clues do you take from that for the coverage? also, didnt the Legion of Boom play Cover 3 press with inside leverage? kinda hard to help over outisde of both cover 3 corners.
@@hansoskar1911 They had Earl Thomas as their FS, he could cover that ground easily. Look at Brett Kollmann's video on Eddie Jackson for further reference. Aside from that I don't know what clues you could take because you can also play Press Quarters i.e Cover 4.
Look at this guy with his grapes! Mr. Healthy over here. Hey just curious, do you have a pro team you support? Or does that kinda go away once you play professionally?......Go Hawks!
Hey JT, another question from the Netherlands here. I've always liked watching football, but am also interested in playing it. Now I've found out there's an amateur club/team near me, so that dream could become reality. Is it realistic to go for the position of QB though, as a new guy in an already established team, and without any experience? Or should I look to play somewhere else on the field? This would be around HS age. Love the content and hope to hear from you!
Hey JT, how much freedom do qbs typically have at the LOS to audible out of the play/ Change the play? Does this depend on the offense/ coach? Appreciate the content
Hey JT, are there any specific qualities coaches look for when looking to train a new QB for the first time? As in someone who's just joined high or middle school, has never played before but is interested in the position. I'm from the UK and our season starts soon.
Steven Soco so full body strength, practicing mechanics, aerobic fitness, and learning how to read the court/field. I’ll give them all a try, thank you!
Coach O'Sullivan made a video of the New England Patriots running a 5 receiver set out of a 21 package, three times in a row in Superbowl 53. th-cam.com/video/uFtlypLqUgE/w-d-xo.html

Keep that content flowing J.T.! We love it, even if not every video has a high view count compared to others.
Agreed!
JT appreciate you taking the time to educate us Football fans... you think about OC for my raiders lol
In a video like the zone coverages video, can you go over different types of offenses and what they attack? Like west coast, air raid, ect
Nikko Atanasoff spread, zone run, vertical offense. All of them
Along with that, I kinda wanna know the advantage of, say, 50 personnel or 32 personnel or at least some of the weird ones.
What are the different "techniques" on the defensive line? 3 technique, 5 technique, etc, and what kinds of players fit best at each technique? Aka people that are shorter? Taller? Quicker? Stronger? Etc.

I'd say... pretty damn well if the records are anything to go by

Hey JT, what type of runs are better against what defensive fronts ?
Why do so many backup QBs look like theyve never even played b4? Dont they know the playbook?
If your in 22 personnel then you motion a TE next the WR does it technically make you personnel 21 personnel
No
So It’s still 22 personnel even tho the TE is acting as a WR I do understand the TE can receive as much he may block

The Los Angels Rams run out of 12 personnel a lot.
you had plenty of practice getting sacked back in SF

Wothout naming names, have you known any really dumb quarterbacks or are you all very quick-witted? How does a dumb quarterback impact an offense?
