Caught this tour in Frankfurt, made me a lifelong fan until Bill left. A couple members were hanging out before the show in the attached bar next door before the show, we didn't realize it and went to a gasthaus nearby to kill time and missed playing some pool with them. Fables is probably still my favorite album of theirs takes me back to those days of my youth hanging out with my best friends drinking beers, smoking crippling amounts of turkish hash with the occasional purple microdot thrown in on sunny days.
all brilliant haunting songs and jangly sound of ricbenbacter guitar similar to the byrds, tom petty etc this, driver 8 , green grow the rushes , can't get there from here, favourites. they were an indie band doing it their way not a groomed set of recording companies performing monkeys . kurt cobain paid tribute to them for this.
No way. Just gave Fables a good listen the other day on a good pair of closed ear headphones and it sounds alive, vibrant, and utterly intoxicating. It sounds as good as it did in 1985- maybe even better with age.
Michael Stipe,Mike Mills,Bill Berry and Peter Buck. These guys used to be a great band, until the mid 1990's.Once the 211st century hit, they seemed to run out of gas. They don't put out the hits like they used to.Then again, what bands do?
Mike Mills playing those melodic bass lines while singing incredible backup vocals... That's a working musician right there!
Even if you dropped into this venue by accident, you'd have known within thirty seconds that these guys were an extraordinary force of nature.
were... star wackers; will kill kurt, not michael. truth with dreams? who wins....
Mike and Bill's harmony vocals are so incredible here, especially when you see and hear them performing live in this song
On this and also on Green Grow the Rushes especially at the end of the song.
What a wonderful song! What a wonderful band!!!
I miss you so much, REM, please come back again!!!
Stipe's vocals on this, wow... Especially the moment from 1:34 to 1:47. That slide up to the root is one of the smoothest I've ever heard.
Ecstasy ❤

Such a great track!!! Then and now.
One of my all time favourite songs :)
Awesome version of this song, better than the FABLES version. BTW, forgot how cute Michael Stipe was back in the day.
This is a great performance of a great, great song.
Introducing Southern Gothic to a room full of Germans
One of my 5 R.E.M. songs...
Positively beautiful version, they're so much better live than on their studio albums. ✌🎶🎤🎸🥁 💙
what an intense ending, the guitar tone is terrific, so is Mill's backing vocals. What an intense ending though.
great post. one of my favorite REM tracks.

Sorry to hear that. Please give UP a wissin'. My favorite REM album. 🤗
Berry was always the most critical of their work, apparently he hated boxcars as well...
REMchout you are the man!
also do you have another channel called SONICchout? If you do I love those videos as well
Just to add my thanks to the poster.
I really like Fables...I'd say that some songs' production sounds flat, but still definitely a quality album.

lol!!
No,that's Mike Mills.

Old Man Kensy !!!
... Wendel Gee ???
heil!
didn't John Paul Jones bassist from Led Zepplin produce this song and album?
absolutely not. this album is from 85. jp jones co produced 'automatic' from 92.
"Fables" was produced by Joe Boyd.
I don't think he cares what he looks like at all.
