Well... I know what I'm going to get up too during covid lockdown
So it has now been 3 months after my above statement. My nage no kata has come on leaps and bounds.
on reflection... I wish I had mats. Doing this on a hard wood floor isn't fun 🤣😂🤣🤕🤕🤕

I've got a question about Ippon Seoi Nage. If this is the correct version of the technique then why does the Kodokan youtube channel demonstrate incorrect version in which uke's bicep is hooked. Since this NAge no Kata demonstration is also from Kodokan, so why is Kodokan contradicting itself.

Nage No Kata and how you execute it as an attack is different. The Kodokan video showing Ippon Seoi Nage on its own is as an attacking move, how you would apply in real life.

It is not a contradiction. It shows the development of the technique in competition. The version, that you refer to is made and more suited for competition. The Kata's version is older, but also of Ippon-Seoi-Nage. The old version was also prevents Uke from doing Hadaka-Jime. Since choking joint-locks while standing have been prohibited in competition and faster version have been developed, new versions have made it to competition. Kata teaches basic principles of movement and mindset with modell-solutions in a defined form with different goals like preparing for randori, self-defence, training the body or theoretical issues. For Kata this version is correct. When it comes to randori various versions are correct.

@@floatingjudo2568 Kata is more than just showing how to throw. It teaches the scientific principle, the direction of kuzushi, shows you how to go with the flow to be thrown etc. But don’t be too dogmatic in adopting the principles to randori. Kano said randori is creatinve writing, and kata is the grammar.

Reinterpretating the nage no kata,it's strongly similar to ju jitsu. ( i know that the kodokan judo is comes from ju jitsu)

They both come from aikijutsu, as does hapkido… all three having various focus depending on instructor
