I've seen a lot of videos of mountain bikers riding PORTAL TRAIL, but you are one of the first to describe the grueling climb up...and that's very much appreciated. Great video Heather.
Absolutely, that climb was just plain Brutal, like barbaric brutal, and i love to climb 🙃🙂 I think the end of portal that is really chunky was the best.
Literally my reaction when I got to that point, and already being adrenalin pumped from the walk don't ride here sections / signs :D You guys did an amazing job.
You make it look so easy and your friend walks her bike on the right so she’s expose to the edge. Protect the bike at all cost. And I did all those incredible things as suggested. 😊
To set the mood, I'm watching this, sitting in my recliner in my living room, eating some fresh out of the oven homemade orange and green colored soft pretzels shaped like pumpkins. That's as close as I want to get to this trail haha. Well done! Bet it feels good to check that one off.
Back in 1994, I parked off 279 and rode up the Poison Spider Jeep Trail to Gold Bar, and then to the Portal. Mind me, was in my late twenties and was very fit from working construction and riding almost every day. The Portal is still my most memorable and favorite trail, I hope to maybe try riding it again. If not, at least I have once in my life, plus I was riding solo.
Wow what a ride. Love your videos . Aside from all the views places you and your friends go , I love all the info you give along your route. Great videos keep them coming 😉👌
Nice work!! I was thinking to myself that I couldn't believe that you had ridden all that way and not used the word "chunky" and all of a sudden "chun-KEE" came rolling out. Thanks for the great video.
Good video, Heather! Makes me want to go back to Moab. From the way you were reading the sign out loud, it seems as if Ben wanted to ride the dismount section. 😮😄
Great video! IMO, the Bull Run section on the Mag 7 is the most enjoyable. By the time you get to the Portal you are beaten to a pulp from the long climb, then you must fully focus on staying right, followed by the technical chunk to get down. Any amount of food (and drinks) is well deserved after that ride.
Very cool! Another adventure enjoyed vicariously from in front of my computer. Gee, that sounds lame, after watching your video. That does it, I'm gonna try a different trail!
That’s crazy bananas 🍌. I love mountain biking and have experienced some exposure but never to that extreme and honestly I see no need for me to personally ride my mountain bike on that trail, but it was fun to watch. Thanks for sharing!
Did this last week with some friends and my wife! Rode my steel hard tail and man…..I felt like I’d been in a bar fight all day when we finished Portal! Cheers.
Hey, yeah... nobody mentions the long ramble followed by the grueling climb up Gold Bar Rim that you do first just to get to Portal. A looong time ago we went up Poison Spider Mesa to get to Portal but I've heard that it's all a big sandpit now, so that would be just as fatiguing.
This trail gives me the worst kind of hibbie jibbies eveyrtime I see it. Being 42 and riding for only two years, this is a hard pass for me. At least it is right now. Love your videos, Heather! Thanks for sharing.
Up it’s a scary trail but the trail end of porcupine trail (last leg of the Whole Enchilada) is 2x tougher scarier. 3 flat tires and same exposure as here plus about (20) 4 foot ledge drops.. The WE trail survives are the #1 toughest
I don’t feel like Mag 7 being difficult is a secret. Only been to Moab once and decided on half enchilada, over mag 7 partially due to the climbing. Of course it snowed that day so we got a front loaded 1000 ft climb instead
Back in college a buddy and I went to Moab dead middle of summer, we were the only dump asses there mtbing. We did Porcupine Rim and almost died of heat exhaustion. Once we got down to the road were literally had to stop every 100feet or so for a break, we got very close to getting heat stroke out there. Haven't been back mtb since...that was over 20years ago. But another buddy and I did ride SlickRock about 16years ago on Honda Ruckuses on our way back from Denver. I'm thinking about going out there next spring since I started mtbing again after a 15year hiatus, and do a little dualsporting too.
@@HeatherMunive It was interesting riding Slick Rock. Felt like riding pavement. On a mtb it was an easy ride, just not in the heat. On the scooter it was very difficult.
Wife and I spent our Honeymoon Night on Poison Spider on the way to the Portal Trail. Started at 6:00PM and ran out of light. Saw a Bear and we didn’t die. Be careful on this one folks.
Did you NOT look at TrailForks?!!? Duh! It will give you everything you needed to know. You didn’t even climb the original Blue Dot trail. FYI more work, maybe next time. Time to do more pedalling and less chairlift riding.
@@HeatherMunive I did NOT intend to be mean or harsh btw, as you know lots can go wrong out there and I’ve personally experienced a bad crash on some of the easiest parts (complacency) . Please keep up your high energy content it’s appreciated, and most of all have fun & be safe !
I've seen a lot of videos of mountain bikers riding PORTAL TRAIL, but you are one of the first to describe the grueling climb up...and that's very much appreciated. Great video Heather.
This was exactly my thoughts after watching all the portal videos we were only expecting the portal to be crazy but the climb was even more insane😅😅
Absolutely, that climb was just plain Brutal, like barbaric brutal, and i love to climb 🙃🙂 I think the end of portal that is really chunky was the best.
That grueling climb looks like the perfect place for an eMTB!
Truly perfect for one
Thanks for taking us on a ride down Portal! You made me laugh as you were approaching an obstacle at 5:43 you exclaimed, “Oh yea! - No.”
Haha 😅😊
Literally my reaction when I got to that point, and already being adrenalin pumped from the walk don't ride here sections / signs :D You guys did an amazing job.

haha Thank you !!!! I appreciate all that you doo ❤
"Dropping into Portal!" - proceeds to drop into Goldbar rim 😂
Yeah we didn’t know exactly where it started 🙃
Thank you Heather! Yes it was truly the most cheerfull presentation of the most dangerous trail! :- )))
haha Thank you!!!❤
Great riding! I was just at Gooseberry Mesa in southern Utah a few weeks ago and it was an amazing introduction to slickrock. Moab is next on my list!
To set the mood, I'm watching this, sitting in my recliner in my living room, eating some fresh out of the oven homemade orange and green colored soft pretzels shaped like pumpkins. That's as close as I want to get to this trail haha. Well done! Bet it feels good to check that one off.
hahah Thank you for that visual, I hope you enjoyed it, sounded delicious.
That's what I like about the uploads. Thank you for the video, it's very good and of course spectacular places.

Fantastic video Heather and always. Far out that trail look very scary you would not want to go over the side unfortunately you would be history.
Thank you ❤️
WELL DONE! I'm sweating just watching it!!! Yikes you guys are badasses!!! xo
Thank you 😊😊
Nice work!! I was thinking to myself that I couldn't believe that you had ridden all that way and not used the word "chunky" and all of a sudden "chun-KEE" came rolling out. Thanks for the great video.
Hahaha that is awesome. Thank you 😊
You guys did an amazing job riding that! So much better than me. I rode it 8 years ago and was gripped!! Good job and great video work.
That trail def got our heart rates going. Im excited to hear you experienced it too.
Loved riding all of Mag 7 and Portal earlier this year. Such an awesome place.
So Beautiful and such fun riding
Good video, Heather! Makes me want to go back to Moab.
From the way you were reading the sign out loud, it seems as if Ben wanted to ride the dismount section. 😮😄
Haha that’s funny, I had to Justin case he got the urge to ride it

Agreed. It was such a fun adventurous ride to the actual trail. We were smoked by the time we hit portal 😅😅
Very cool! Another adventure enjoyed vicariously from in front of my computer. Gee, that sounds lame, after watching your video. That does it, I'm gonna try a different trail!
Haha ❤😊
Super cool!
Craaaaazy stoke!!! That trail is one of the most extreme rides the west has to offer, and ya nailed it!! P.S. thanx for not dieing🤙😎
Thank you for watching ❤
Wild ride.
I've seen some videos of trails down the Swiss Alps that make me sweat sitting behind the computer.
That’s crazy bananas 🍌. I love mountain biking and have experienced some exposure but never to that extreme and honestly I see no need for me to personally ride my mountain bike on that trail, but it was fun to watch. Thanks for sharing!
I’m glad you can enjoy it through this video ❤
Awesome trail 😊
Always a good day when the edits are done
Always 😊❤️
You guys are awesome!😁😁
Thank You ❤
I was leaning in my chair for you to get away from the edge haha great job ya'll.
hahah watching the footage afterwards looked scarier
Perfect! Nice ride, beautiful view and high risk 😅 Pure MTB!
I KNEW it! Nice job, y'all.
😅❤
Hopefully I will get the chance to conquer portal trail someday for epic adventure MTBLife 😃😘😘😘🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Did this last week with some friends and my wife! Rode my steel hard tail and man…..I felt like I’d been in a bar fight all day when we finished Portal! Cheers.
Woahhh I can’t even imagine. Glad you guys rode it and had a good time though
Good stuff. I love your video edits too. POC "glasses"?
Great video! What camera and mount are you using for the on the bike shots?
Wow that Trail looks rough on the climb good part is you get to ride epic trail with amazing views lucky you had Madison Pitts 😃😘😘😘🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rides with Maddy are always fun!

OMG! I wish I had been wearing my HRM when I watched this. Would have shared it. Terrifying to watch, but I but fantastic riding. We'll done!
Thank you 😅😊

Adventurous and inspiring mtb. Two skilled, beautiful, bad ass chicks doing what they love. Excellent video! Chevere!!
❤😊
Epic video !!! Palms are sweaty, moms spaghetti !!!!!!! But Margarita BABY !!!!!
hahah Margaritasssss BABYYYYY
AAAAHHHHHH! My heart was in my stomach?! If that's a saying?! Great job! Thanks for scaring me! HA!
Haha thank you ❤
Nope , never gonna happen! The exposure is beyond my comfort and skill level. Glad you made it safely, stressful video. 😀
Super!!!!
good job! the climbs suck. @ 6:13 is where i crashed! caught my pedal and some of the tree, scary
Ouch! I’m glad your ok
No idea getting to portal was so much work..think I’ll bribe a sidexside dude for a lift to the top when I finally get down there to ride it 😂
Where’s the van? Mag 7 while pretty XC does get you to some awesome tech with Gold Bar Rim and Potal.
Gold bar rim was pretty cool. We were riding on the edge for a while. I gave the van a little break we wanted to tent camp for this trip 😃
This trail gives me the worst kind of hibbie jibbies eveyrtime I see it. Being 42 and riding for only two years, this is a hard pass for me. At least it is right now. Love your videos, Heather! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching 😊❤️
Great job! Do you think it's worse than Hangover?
hmmmm Good question. Both I think are pretty exposed but in different ways. Hang over is like rock slabs. Honestly both are crazy hahah
Gee atherton makes this look easy. I realized how hard this is for an average rider.
I need Maddies 4Runner 😮
It’s a nice one 😎
You chose well not taking Poison Spider. It is VERY sandy, although not as exposed. It does however take you past Little Arch.
IT WOULD BE SO SICK TO DO A PHOTOSHOOT OF YOU HITTING SO JUMPS!!!
Genial 🤙🏽

Gracias s yi ustedes son mi idolas y me motibo a raitiar mi bike mil gracias
Gracias 😊
You mentioned Eastern US. If you'll be in Central PA and want to take a break from the tech. on a really great trail system, Allegrippis Trails.
I’m up in New Jersey heading to ride mountain creek :)
I don’t feel like Mag 7 being difficult is a secret. Only been to Moab once and decided on half enchilada, over mag 7 partially due to the climbing. Of course it snowed that day so we got a front loaded 1000 ft climb instead
You can never go wrong with the whole enchilada. It’s a fun one
This is almost too scared to even watch. Happy you don’t feel a need to take unnecessary risks.
Call me mister Hike a Bike!🤣
haha The climb up we def hiked
I did this ride on my XC bike and i think i walked almost 1/2 of it. HA HA HA
Looks loke mtn bikong on Mars😮
It felt like it hahah 😅😊
not for me glad you guys liked it

That must have been a hot one! How was slickrock ??

3:15 4:26 No thx, that's scary.😬 I hate insane exposure. I won't ride or ride anything like this.

So nice muchachas vrabo
Gracias 😊
I could not ride that trail but if somehow I did, I would have to have surgery to remove the bike seat from my rear.
Hahaha 😅🙃
Terrifying.
Wife and I spent our Honeymoon Night on Poison Spider on the way to the Portal Trail. Started at 6:00PM and ran out of light. Saw a Bear and we didn’t die. Be careful on this one folks.
Wow that sounds like an adventure for sure. Glad you guys survived and congrats on getting married ❤
AZ isn't too far from Moab :)
We have to make our way there!!
HOLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hola 😊
Bitchin Video!
Nah. I'm gonna chill in the truck and wait.
Haha you can do it !!
Do you out Pineapple 🍍 on Pizza 🍕??

that guy up front is sketchy. i wouldn't follow him
Even on foot, The Portal Trail has some serious pucker factor.
Thanks!
Thanks for the support 😊❤️
