They created this video in a closet and a kitchen in one of their apartments. They spent only $400 and then they won a grammy for it. This was a medley of 7 songs from the group daft punk. This group has won 3 grammys and up for another one this year. they have a multitude of covers and originals songs. There is no one like them. They make all the sounds from their mouths in 98% of their videos.

I'd been an a capella fan before these artists were born - but IMHO nobody did, nor does, earn the longevity and popularity Pentatonix has fought for; teamwork (with their crew and others), media savvy balanced with poise, fine tuning, and sheer talent made them pathfinders
This won a Grammy.
And the little stutter they do at the end of the main Get Lucky sequence is not edited in on the vocals, but done in the score. They'll edit up the video part a lot because that is just the window dressing. You won't even see it when you're listening while driving down the road. The music is the real delivered product.
I think one of the main values of A Capella music is that it simplifies the music. There aren't 15 different add-in sounds. The few sounds being produced at any one moment then have to be cleaner to survive. A small to medium amount of clean musical sounds are preferable to a lot of sounds with some being only medium quality and then others added to mask the weak spots. The arrangement and the execution must be tighter and more interesting to justify publication.

I have a thing for Avi Kaplan’s voice and his fantastic solo music, though. Like you, Avi Kaplan lives in the woods (near Nashville), and I hope that you will react to more of his own music, eg “I’m Only Getting Started” (sort of a sequel to “Change On The Rise” that you already reacted to) and “When I’m A Fool” (some really low notes), both songs from his recent EP “Live at Sunset Sound”.
