Whats funny is that im taking games industry in my college and I wanted to make a remake of Secret Rings from the ground up too but since I'm still learning, I knew it would take time, glad to see someone else whos more better at game development is doing this, can't wait to see this when its fully finished

@@DewMan31 black knights always gotten more attention because it has less repetitive levels, less tedious missions, and more focused writing I also very much prefer black knights controls because it’s not bogged down by a complicated upgrade system and generally flows better The fact secret rings is getting a remake before black knight, to me, is a crime lol
Despite the camera being slightly worse than in the original in some areas, and the lightning being a little dull and dark for things like the buildings, this project is… astonishing! I honestly have no words. Everything looks really, really good, the reimplementation of the E3 tutorial as an options menu is awesome (I hope they also make it the regular tutorial, instead of a whole bunch of long, boring individual levels!), the lighting and shaders, despite what I said, are done in a really, really solid and artstyle driven way, to where this does not look like a fangame. The menus are on point. This is honestly amazing. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
Heeeck yes, been wanting so long for something like this! The game feels so much better with a controller, there's quite a few mechanical differences which helps in movements as well. (like full analog rotation being a big one.) Also wow that menu gives off the perfect vibe, love the book being the options. Sick project so far. One suggestion I have is to show how many points you need in a level for different medals. I'm not sure it's possible to get gold or not yet, due to no upgrades.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! While it is currently possible to get all the gold medals, it's extremely difficult. I also did have plans to show the medal requirements (similar to Sonic Origins), but I had to delay it for the sake of getting the demo out. Hopefully it'll be part of the next update!
Its about time Secret Rings gets love. I understand the main complaint was motion controls, but I think since i grew up with motion controls, I have adapted. I can have some genuine fun with SR on the wii with little to no issue. I have recently been revisiting the game on dolphin and i can say it feels relatively similar just with a controller. Obviously it isnt flawless, but i dont think youre missing much by experiencing it that way, so go ahead and try it with a custom control setup you can find online. I think a remake like this has the potential to refine the controller experience by being built around it, making it more accessible to more Sonic fans, so I look forward to this project's completion! This looks fun!
I hope this gets finished, Sonic And The Secret Rings was my first Sonic Game I owned as a kid and for all it's faults i still enjoyed it and this project remake looks so amazing.
Gotta say for a first demo it's looking very promising already having a lot more control over moving Sonic around, Sand Oasis looking more updated compared to the Wii and thankfully lessening the overused Seven Rings in Hand for the menu/stage results. Granted the latter makes things easy by using the instrumental version.
Despite the hate surrounding it this is probably my favorite sonic game. I’m sure there is a lot of nostalgia in it but still I love it nonetheless. Great to see such a polished remake

I wouldn't know but I imagine him might've. I actually familiarize that song with his intros more than the game itself since I hadn't actually fully played the game at the time til about a year or 2 ago.
This looks cool! But I am a lover of how it is originally. I feel that the only thing that really needed to be the control & then touch up everything else. Or maybe this just looks off because he's not leveled up yet xD I still play it today doing cool crazy stuff with the wii remote. But, yeah. Maybe that's what's off to me & it's actually just as awesome or better when. He's souped up here. Love that the control looks like it feels awesome when needing to stop, go backwards, ect. I mean you don’t need to fix the story for this game it’s great maybe just make the structure more streamlined so you aren’t jumping through random missions trying to find the right one for progress also DONT HAVE SEVEN RINGS CONSTANTLY LOOP EVERY TIME YOU OPEN THE MENU

Where did the new menu song come from!? SRiH really fits when saved for the victory scene. Looked like you can jump cancel speed break and time break is more functional as well. I know the majority would greatly prefer for the Storybook design to become Boost, but I'm really happy to see an unofficial effort to retune the game with rail switching thats more functional. I'm also partial to mission objectives though I grant Secret Rings didn't have a good reason to hide the main ones.

Well not _just_ the controls. I feel some of the progression structure of Missions was a bit meh and the constant "MAKE BELIEVE'S REBORN!" was a bit grating too. Fortunately, this remake has already solved that latter one.
playing it on dolphin with a controller to simulate motion controls is the PEAK way to play SATSR. Seeing a remake dedicated to controller sounds so goooddd

I love how fans are making quite good remakes (Project 06 and this). At this point I hope that someone could remake Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. That would be awesome considering that Sega has no intention in developing them for now.
This project shows the potential about godot engine as many sonic fan games are not made using this engine many people use unreal engine and unity engine there every few few people that use godot like for 2D like sonic mania like remake someone made i think and not 3D games very amazing remake i have to say.
This is the first time I’ve seen this game played where the player had control over sonic and wasn’t just desperately trying to wrangle him like a horse
The game feels much better than the original. You can move diagonally much easier which is a big bonus. Also the stomp out of homing attack and a few other actions are much easier to perform here. Which makes the game feel faster and improved overall.
Now that I've started to play the original Wii one after all these years, exactly now that I started to play the original they remastered it on pc LMAO
Really want Black Knight and Sonic Boom remake projects, Sonic Boom especially needs this kind of polish treatment as well as the option to use the modern designs instead of the Boom ones. We all remember the disaster that was Sonic Boom, someone needs to fix it so it’s actually playable and devoid of game breaking glitches and framerate drops.
As much as this is cool, I think that both Story book games would benefit form going away from the more on rails style levels and more open design like the games before it. More exploration and freedom with adventure style controls. The level design of the storybook games was done because of how they controlled and if you're going to give full controller support, the level design should adapt as so
As an avid secret rings lover even of the controls, I'd say this is promising. I dont agree with a lot of criticism thats been levied against this game, but this remake tries to address those. An instant jump and analogue controls among other things. The thing that stood out most to me was the homing attack, must be one of the best homing attacks ive ever seen! However, I do hope they keep the charge jump as an option, because i think it adds a depth to this game thats not found in other games, and ofc that you can still play with motion controls if you map em.

The running looks like it needs a bit of work, it doesn't feel fast enough. The homing attack looks perfect though and much better than it was in the original.
I liked a lot of things about the original. I really only have two complaints with it. Of course, they're really big complaints that definitely drag down the experience. The controls and all the padding. The controls look to be greatly improved here. Hopefully, it's made clearer in this remake which levels are necessary and which ones are optional.

Trust me this doesn't, the levels look pretty but are even less engaging than forces.
Once you remove the motion controls you start to realize how bare bones the level design actually is
This could have easily been an arcade game, and I kinda wish it was. Hopefully they make one in this style eventually

They should let you control side-to-side movement with a mouse. That would work really well I think.
