TS2 was such a jump from TS1 that as a kid I had literal dreams about it before it came out. And I vividly remember that one dream even though I'm in my late 20s - it was about being able to build basements (gasp) and zooming all the way on the sims and seeing every detail of them (gasp!). And then at school we had heated discussions about how "sims will have to actually learn recipes before they can cook anything!" and how hard surely the game will be! They were very, very fun times :D TS1 was my first sims game, but TS2 will forever have a huge place in my heart, because it was such a great part of my childhood (and such a great game! Only love for TS2.)
I'm probably slightly younger than you and I will mention that I had the same experience with TS3! I had dreams about it before it came out and being able to choose my own swatches in CAS! TS2 will always have that same special place in my heart though.

As soon as he left for work, he let me play the game, and it felt like the best thing ever. 3D Camera, zoom ins, and new social interactions. I didn't realize how long I had been playing until I heard his keys jingling on the door and there was daylight outside the windows. He already worked his whole night shift.

This one was such a delight to watch, Sims 2 is the game I played most of the Sims games & I have the most memories with so it was nice seeing this, brought me back. It's still my favorite of the Sims games. One thing I do recall is that like every lot I placed, it ended up on uneven land so I remember flattening it out like almost every time I went in for a build which was annoying to do but younger me also sucked at doing builds so maybe having the different elevations was a good thing? I just remember not liking it back when I was a teenager playing the game. Still, loved placing the lots, when I first played the Sims 3, I thought you could still do that & was ticked off that it wouldn't let me. I always would move my family to the lot first, do the motherlode cheat for Sims 2 & later, rosebud for Sims 1, & then have all the money I want to use to build what I liked. It was weird, it wouldn't even let me move a new family to an empty lot in the Sims 3 but like I think it was just me being dumb or something. The second game will always be my favorite & I liked how you brought this house into the second game although I wish there could of been tile in the kitchen, oh well.
Same, sims 2 is special. But very quirky. It'll always be my favorite. I did have some fun with the sims 4 though, but it's not the same even with the quality of life building stuff. Live mode is better in sims 2.

Sims 2 is honestly really impressive with graphics. It seriously looks like sketch up or in design but better graphics. It’s really beautiful. I feel like it was way ahead of its time
The Sims 2 was my LIFE for YEARS when it first came out! I got the all-packs bundle for free on Origin a few years back and I’m so happy I can go relive my childhood every once in a while 💕
I think you should be able to take a few creative liberties when moving between games! rather than trying to exactly recreate your first build and limiting yourself to the tools in ts1
Love seeing a positive TS2 build video! I play TS2 exclusively and although there’s no doubt TS4 has some great build mode advances, if you know what you’re doing you can make great builds in TS2! So often I see videos where players who are used to TS4 are just complaining about how they don’t know how to use TS2’s build mode and it’s nice to see someone who is familiar with the tools! 😁 Was gonna say too, you can definitely use the diagonal cheat for most things no problem, I have it on all the time. Mostly I use it for armchairs in the living room. Things that need to snap together like tables and chairs may not work, and hot tub animations look…. Very odd with it placed diagonally though lol.
I miss The Sims 2 so much. One of these days I must figure out how to run it on a modern computer, or try and build a computer that can run it, still got all my discs. You know, I could swear there's some stuff missing even though you seem to have expansions installed... maybe I was just used to using more custom content in Sims 2, bur I am sure there were more fences and arches and stuff.
It runs fairly well on modern systems, you just have to do a little extra work when you first run it to make sure it recognizes modern graphics cards. The real struggle is keeping it from completely imploding on itself from the irreparable bugs it shipped with. If TS2 was less of a technological disaster, I think it might be my favorite sims game
For all that we complain about Sims 4, they sure made some things a lot easier when it comes to building. I forgot how difficult it could be in 2. I do prefer 2's swatches and 3's cast though.
Building in TS2 is so hardwired into my brain at this point that I often take unnecessary steps when building in TS4. I've started, messed up, and re-started builds more times than I can count. Sometimes I get so fed up that I just delete the entire lot. Considering James isn't even used to TS2 anymore, I can't imagine how frustrating that was!
10:25 - "I still, to this day, don't understand why they didn't do Sims 4 like this. How come Sims 2 swatches are better than Sims 4?" ...because The Sims 2 _IS_ better than 4...
Maybe after this you can try doing the same but in reverse, so you start with sims 4 and go back to sims 1 so we can see how much harder it was to build in the earlier games! I think it would be really funny to see how as you go through the games the build will look almost nothing like the original
Oh my gosh, I was so worried that you were just going to forget to add the pooltable. And when you remembered, I was like "All the village rejoiced!!!"
I played the Sims 2 when I was younger and I really miss playing it. This made me so happy to see. Also, I hope the Sims brings back the swatch menu from Sims 2 or the thing from Sims 3
@@newelysium9718 I know right?! Especially the mix and match feature of the Sims 2, like pick a bedframe and pick a mattress, pick a wood swatch and pick the colour for your chair’s cushions. But in the Sims 4 it’s like if you want the colours to match you’ll have to deal with 15 different kinds of woods, and if you want the woods to match (well, sort of) you get 20 different colours of pillows and stuff and it is. so. FRUSTRATING.
Great series-- it's fun to see how the game has evolved. I've still got Sims1 and Sims2 (base game only, unfortunately), and now you've got me thinking that I should go back to them and explore them from the building point of view.
That's cool -- the house came out really well in its Sims 2 version! :D I love how it's so clearly the same house, and yet it's so improved from its Sims 1 incarnation. I'm looking forward to the Sims 3 and Sims 4 versions! (Bet you were missing Sims 4 when you realized you had to shift the entire thing over a couple of blocks -- poor James. . .)
Not being able to paint a specific section of a wall by blocking it with the end pieces is the one thing that drives me insane in the sims 4, I'll deal with not being able to pick the bedframe and the sheets separately but the walls I simply cannot
if you hold alt you can paint whole walls :) with shift you paint whole rooms, if it were single walls (that don't count to a room) shift paints both sides of the wall :) Just a quick tip in case you didn't know these hotkeys ^^
you should do this agin but next time with each game do a different stage of the people living theres lives for example in the sims 1 the kid room you biuld could start off as a baby room and then in sims 2 a child room sims 3 teenage room sims 4 maybe the kid moved out and the parents have more furniture that older people would have and turn the room into a guest room. but that is just an example i think that would be a fun cool twist on this already awesome mini series.
The Sims 2 did have the ability to place items off grid - boolprop snapobjectstogrid false But many objects would become unusable when off grid so it’s really only for decor unless you don’t intend your house to be liveable.
I love this video especially because it shows you are very good at building in The Sims 2 as well and don't spend the whole video on complaining how hard it is 🤭 I think a lot can be done in The Sims 2 if one knows how to do it!
I fully agree on the swatch system of Sims 2. Being able to individually select bed frame and the sheets was so much better. Or with counters: counter top and the counters themselves. Why can't we have that in the Sims 4? If we had then, and no extra swatches, but just to independently choose each section... think how much better that would be. 🤔😃
I love these videos I haven’t played any other sims game other than sims 4 so I love finding out about the other earlier games❤️ also these videos or any sims building videos remind me I need to place windows on my builds 😭😂 I always forget! I made a whole build, loved it and was so proud then realised it only had 1 window 🪟😂❤️
Thats pretty awesome. Love the Sims 2. Wish I could take the best elements of each game, plus a few iconic loved items, and put them together to be the legacy Sims descendent. ;)
It's going to be waaaay easier to build this house in The Sims 3 since the building tools are pretty similar to the ones in 2. Sims 1 and Sims 2 have radically different tools.
Man, this brought back so many memories. The amount of hours I spent playing this game. I played the Sims 1 right as it was wrapping up (I got the complete collection). So, the first game I really played through as expansions where coming out was The Sims 2.
So much nostalgia. Sims 2 was my introduction to the series. I'm scared to boot it up though because I tried booting up Zoo Tycoon 2 on a "newer" computer as a kid and it crashed my computer pretty hard. Hah... I'd love to play that game and Sid Meyer's Pirates too, actually.
I know we're not trying to completely compare each game here but man, going back to this and remembering how huge the leap was between Sims 1 and 2 really got me thinking. Like from 1 to 2, suddenly we had a fully 3d space and a massive upgrade in graphics and basically everything. From 2 to 3 we had an open world and suddenly wayyy more customisation both in CAS and BB. But from 3 to 4...? Back to loading screens, back to less customisation (not even as much as Sims 2 where objects often had two parts to change the colour on) and suddenly we didn't even have toddlers anymore. It's just really weird? We did get upgrades in CAS and BB but I don't think they were anything as impressive as the upgrades we had for other games. I really do wonder how Sims 5 will be if we ever get it 🤔
Oh wow, I was kind of upset you made some random woman called "Eyelid" instead of Deli in the last part, took me a while to work out it was actually Iled for Deli lol 😅 I feel so dumb, you two are just too cute.

You know, I could swear there's some stuff missing even though you seem to have expansions installed... maybe I was just used to using more custom content in Sims 2, bur I am sure there were more fences and arches and stuff.
I also think some things are missing. All expansion pack items aren’t there
I think he is missing the Ikea stuff pack and maybe some other extra stuff that came with preorder or sth (?)
I play Sims2 recently and with the right CC it looks actually amazing. Loved the gameplay since childhood. Hope u can get it to work like me :)
He's missing store content maybe that's what you're thinking of?
When the Sims 2 objects look better than the Sims 4 ones..... *sips tea
10:25 - "I still, to this day, don't understand why they didn't do Sims 4 like this. How come Sims 2 swatches are better than Sims 4?"
...because The Sims 2 _IS_ better than 4...
It would be interesting to attempt this in reverse, make a nice house in Sims 4 and then see how close you can get in 3, 2 and 1
I've been playing the sims 2 for years and have literally just learned you can cheat quarter tile placement. this is a game changer
I played the Sims 2 when I was younger and I really miss playing it. This made me so happy to see. Also, I hope the Sims brings back the swatch menu from Sims 2 or the thing from Sims 3
“HOW come Sims 2 swatches are better than Sims 4?”
Louder for the people in the back please ☕️
um I remember being frustrated at sims 2 for having swatches of wood that kinda match but not 100% and then sims 4 came out and likeeeeee....yeah
I hope you when you finish this you do the same challenge in reverse and see how a Sims 4 house gets converted back all the way down to Sims 1
Great series-- it's fun to see how the game has evolved. I've still got Sims1 and Sims2 (base game only, unfortunately), and now you've got me thinking that I should go back to them and explore them from the building point of view.
Could you post the simoleon price comparison between all the homes? Would be interesting to see how much they’re different throughout the builds!
That's cool -- the house came out really well in its Sims 2 version! :D I love how it's so clearly the same house, and yet it's so improved from its Sims 1 incarnation. I'm looking forward to the Sims 3 and Sims 4 versions! (Bet you were missing Sims 4 when you realized you had to shift the entire thing over a couple of blocks -- poor James. . .)
This is a great series! Sims 3 is my favorite game, so I'm excited for that one.
Not being able to paint a specific section of a wall by blocking it with the end pieces is the one thing that drives me insane in the sims 4, I'll deal with not being able to pick the bedframe and the sheets separately but the walls I simply cannot
if you hold alt you can paint whole walls :) with shift you paint whole rooms, if it were single walls (that don't count to a room) shift paints both sides of the wall :)
Just a quick tip in case you didn't know these hotkeys ^^
having to paint the outside room by room is what gets me
"are you telling me that i need to slide the whole thing over?"
**The sims 4 bb mode laughs villainously**
I love this challenge idea so much, it's really creative and also a great throwback to the older games!! I can't wait for more of these :D
you should do this agin but next time with each game do a different stage of the people living theres lives for example in the sims 1 the kid room you biuld could start off as a baby room and then in sims 2 a child room sims 3 teenage room sims 4 maybe the kid moved out and the parents have more furniture that older people would have and turn the room into a guest room. but that is just an example i think that would be a fun cool twist on this already awesome mini series.
Semaj is totally gonna use *that* living room set from Get Famous in TS4 since there is no cowprint couch
I'm excited to see 3 and 4
So glad for this mini series! It's a brilliant idea!
Thank you for not making us wait too long for part 2! This is a great series.
I love this concept so much
Hello fellow weeb 🙃
@@swirlyramen3271 Hihi! :)
The Sims 2 did have the ability to place items off grid - boolprop snapobjectstogrid false
But many objects would become unusable when off grid so it’s really only for decor unless you don’t intend your house to be liveable.
I'm loving this concept and much more invested in it than I'd like to admit
I love this video especially because it shows you are very good at building in The Sims 2 as well and don't spend the whole video on complaining how hard it is 🤭 I think a lot can be done in The Sims 2 if one knows how to do it!
I fully agree on the swatch system of Sims 2. Being able to individually select bed frame and the sheets was so much better. Or with counters: counter top and the counters themselves. Why can't we have that in the Sims 4? If we had then, and no extra swatches, but just to independently choose each section... think how much better that would be. 🤔😃
James: allows himself to make slight changes to the build
Also James: does not allow himself not to put the randomly placed bush from the Sims 1 build
I love these videos I haven’t played any other sims game other than sims 4 so I love finding out about the other earlier games❤️ also these videos or any sims building videos remind me I need to place windows on my builds 😭😂 I always forget! I made a whole build, loved it and was so proud then realised it only had 1 window 🪟😂❤️
i like this idea, i also have to command you for your sims 1 building skills
This is soo nostalgic... i played sims2 in kind of a “pre-school” and when i see this im going to cry. I want to play it soo bad! Love!
Thats pretty awesome. Love the Sims 2. Wish I could take the best elements of each game, plus a few iconic loved items, and put them together to be the legacy Sims descendent. ;)
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this house in sims 3. Create a Style is going to be fun. Could you also add in pets, too?
Man, I miss Sims 2 so much. It's amazing how well it holds up.
“Why didn’t the Sims 4-“
“Laziness.”
Nice! Can't wait to see Sims 3 version.
The jump from Sims 1 to Sims 2 in graphics oO
Also that just brought back so many childhoof memories!
I am enjoying this so much! I forgot how hard it was to build in Sims 1, 2, & 3!
Omg seeing you place the driveway was sooo triggering! How could they leave that out of sims 4! Geez! 😩😭
I'm really enjoying this build challenge! Can't wait to see what you do in my fave game...Sims 3😁🤗
This video mini series is super fun. I’m already excited for the build to go backwards when we get to the sims 4. Car? Gone 😂
Nothing gives me more sims vibes than this cow print Couch.😂😂✨
It's going to be waaaay easier to build this house in The Sims 3 since the building tools are pretty similar to the ones in 2. Sims 1 and Sims 2 have radically different tools.
Ahh I love watching your build videos at the end of the day and perfect way to chill out! can't wait for the next one!
The wardrobe with full size doors with mirrors on them.. I miss those
23:37 This made me laugh a little too hard
"I do fear that I'm slightly overcomplicating things" Semaj says as he is vastly overcomplicating things
Man, this brought back so many memories. The amount of hours I spent playing this game. I played the Sims 1 right as it was wrapping up (I got the complete collection). So, the first game I really played through as expansions where coming out was The Sims 2.
Why do I love the cowprint couch
I love it so muuuch! I didn't know I could do stuff like this in Sims 2 as I never use cheats. Whoa!
Cant wait for the Sims 3 version! 🤗
Best thing about the Sims 2, the in game text isn’t goddamn comic sans anymore
I remember being a kid and all my builds had crazy bright carpets, animal print and crazy wall design 😂
So much nostalgia. Sims 2 was my introduction to the series. I'm scared to boot it up though because I tried booting up Zoo Tycoon 2 on a "newer" computer as a kid and it crashed my computer pretty hard. Hah... I'd love to play that game and Sid Meyer's Pirates too, actually.
did anyone else notice that the brick wallpaper is called bRICK ROLLED?
That feeling when even Sims 1 has more gameplay than Sims 4...
~yes, I am sittin' and bitchin' right here~ :D
Sims 3 version rn! Ahahah, I love these😍🥰
Oh fun! This video made me very happy to see how you're having fun! :D
I really do wonder how Sims 5 will be if we ever get it 🤔
I like these kind of videos, I really enjoy them. Can’t wait for the other 2
This is for sure my favorite series so far!! You should try and do this but with a modern tiny home 😂 That would definitely be a challenge
I’ve never heard someone outside of the east coast or the us in general mention the bay bridge. Cheers from Maryland haha
Oh wow, I was kind of upset you made some random woman called "Eyelid" instead of Deli in the last part, took me a while to work out it was actually Iled for Deli lol 😅
I feel so dumb, you two are just too cute.
