Doesn't look good? This guy was the most badass looking Cobra dude was awesome! Not only does he predate BANE, but he also anticipates SPAWN. I remember using this particular figure with Batman's cape to imagine him as spawn. The later, 2012 iteration of Bane, is a militant with the dragon archetype in the heroic mythology. All of those archetypes go back to this guy! Also, his breathing apparatus and red eyes with the black-hood makes him reminscent of Darth Vader, who was quite popular in 1987.

You can't train alligators & crocodiles like you can with dogs in the real world, but G.I. Joe is an 80's cartoon just as make believe as Transformers so they can get away with Croc Masters. Great video review by the way as always.
I'm pretty sure he uses the small leash to mount the gator while in the water. He could ride it like horse. Hence the air mask! Plus his weapon, pretty sure it's just a plain old simple whip! How else do you train a gator!? XD

The whip is a "black snake". It was first used to control slaves due to the deadly force it can produce. Latter convicts also (one of my mothers brothers died at the end of one in Angola Pen.). It would not bother a gator at it's best without a strike in the eyes.
I can remember as a kid that Croc Master and Big Boa, the Cobra trainer, were built kind of similar. I think Marvel took elements from those two to create the character Bane. Do you have any reviews on Big Boa?- the original version.
He has really well balanced character design, but I think he would be better if he was just a Beast master in general. If he wasn't limited to one creature, he could be used in far more settings and stories

I gotta admit man I am not a huge fan of the 20th and 30th Anniversary Gi Joes? Their detail is much better but there is something about them. I prefer the old school 80s figures

For as silly as he his Croc Master was my hands down favorite when I was a kid. Dude came with an alligator/crocodile, I went nuts for him.

Croc master was my first gi joe action figure and i liked him a lot his looks were ferocious and he looked so cool with his crocodile

That is a crock, not an alligator. You can tell by the rise of the head and where the eyes are. Also, the snout would be flat if it were a gator.
I always thought that he was based on one of the Pentangle members in the movie "Avenging Force".
