Just keep in mind it is a pretty aggressive maneuver to do in this type of aircraft. Many real life pilots rate the flight model in Rise of Flight very highly, so I can only recommend you give it a try to properly find out for yourself. You get two free planes and access to single and multiplayer, so you have nothing to lose by trying it :-)
Excelents tutorials Réquiem! You are give me a great hand learning day by day how to fly better in this amazing Sim. Thank you. And sorry my english... :D
@Requiem10NS the difference is in airframe design. WWI aircraft had an easier recovery due to the extreme forward center of gravity, and a corresponding greater resistance to spins, including snap rolls. in WWII, fighter aircraft could enter a spin much easier, the extra aileron doesn't actually aid in the roll due to the airflow separation that characterizes a spin, and so the instructed technique was to simply pull back and use rudder. Recovery was done through rudder control.
@ROBERTLUCIAn The simulator is called Rise of Flight. It is a flight simulator based in World War One and has one of the best, if not the best, flight models and damage models currently available in a flight sim. There is a demo available from their website, so if you're interested I would recommend you give it a try! It has a steep learning curve though, but there is plenty of information out there to help you get started from their website.
@mickellemastra Yeah it is a last ditch maneuver to make. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you are in a lot of trouble. Sometimes though they completely lose sight of you which is a bonus, but you need to be able to imagine where the bad guy went so you can prepare to either attack him or defend yourself.
Great videos. I would really appreciate a tutorial on how to fly the Camel in particular given it is one of the more challenging planes to fly. I can handle the Spad and SE5a no worries but I am having loads of trouble with the Camel.
Neat video. Now I play IL2 Sturmovik so the flight modeling will be different. The way I do a snap roll is pull the stick back to the six o'clock and put on full left or right rudder. I correct with stick but I can see where using full opposite rudder would work a lot better. What benefit do you see to using the 4 and 8 o'clock positions as opposed to six o'clock? Mind you I picked up this trick from a documentary and applied it through trial and error. Thanks for any advise.
Absolutely, but some sims model the snap roll really roughly. Monoplane tend to snap substantially faster too so you need to be much quicker with the recovery or you'll end up in awkward and humiliating inverted flight.
Thanks for your awesome videos..this is the maneuver I'm finding hard to do properly..eg. In the nieuport I'm trying a right snap roll-stick to 4 o'clock position with full right rudder but doesn't seem to be rolling quick enough and once inverted putting the stick in the opposite direction at 10 o'clock just makes it want to roll back in the opposite direction and not complete the roll..what am I doing wrong? Really want to master this and any feedback would be appreciated!
I never said it was. In fact i hate bf3 jets and i agree with you 100% there are only 4 maneuvers you can pull in bf3 jets. Scissors, (vertical or flat) hook, switch, and cuts. You can also chandelle but that is just another way to cut. I still play bf3 jets but i bought track ir and a joystick now i play ROF, DCS FC3 and warthunder more than anything. Bf3 jets are still fun though. I dont think i said they were anything like real jets. That is insane :D
Are you supposed to be near stall speed to perform a snap roll? I cannot get this to work eg. When trying a right snap roll- stick to 4 o'clock full right rudder it's not turning fast enough/snapping and once inverted/half way through the roll of I apply opposite movements to 10 o'clock stick and full left rudder it starts rolling back left again and not continuing to snap round to the right. .any feedback would be appreciated
@ItsyBitsySpidey1 I highly doubt their flight model is anywhere near complex enough to handle stalls, spins correctly, so as to allow a snap spin. If it were that advanced, I don't think most of the people who play BF3 would be able to get off the ground.
can I do 2 rolls before recover? my yak 7b cant recover any earlier, and my migs left wing keeps kicking the rest of the plane left when I try a right snap spin, cant do it properly on that plane
Impressive. I have one more question. if you use a joystick, then how did you get that smooth viewing at 1:54 ? is the joystick's hat switch that precise!?
Old PC Gaming Oh, well that is courtesy of a device called "Track IR." I have a little LED clip that sits on my headset, and an infra-red camera sits on my monitor which tracks my head moving around. This way my head movement in real life is sent in-game which is pretty immersive :-)
It snap rolls at a historically accurate rate if you are in HB or FRB difficulty. If you are in arcade then aerodynamics don't apply. Snap rolls won't help as much in War Thunder anyways because of the greater distances of engagement.
it appears this game has the same problem as 'world of wraplanes', and 'war thunder'. i can see even in this video, when u release the stick to neutral position, the plane still bounces back and forth, side to side, like it is mounted on a rubber band. real planes don't act like that. older games like 'european air war', aces high', and 'fighter ace' don't have that 'bounce' thing.
Oh of course real planes left with no stick or rudder input just go dead straight with no reaction to air currents, torque or inequalities in the air frame's left and right side as though they were on a guide wire, why did I not see how unrealistic this sim was... Damn

@colddrake80 I use the 4 and 8 oclock stick positon so you get a bit of extra roll added to the maneuver.
Much respect for your contents. You are a true air combat scholar.

Perfect explanation of a simple but really helpful maneuver. Thank you.

Tried it out yesterday in Fokker Dr. 1 'Fly Now' against a pursuing SPAD 13, at 200 metres. Worked perfectly.
You can join us in rise of flight with the free version though but I get the sense you prefer Jets, is this right?

What a great shot!
I love the vibrations, just like a real aircraft
Very very helpful. Thanks!
That was amazing... But you reduce speed and give to foe the opportunity to go over the top and starting boom-zoom tactics, or not?
Superb material. Very well explained.
Is it possible to make a Skid? Another defensive maneuver used to make the enemy overshoot.
You sir, are a master.
Can you use these maneuvers in WWII aircraft as well?
Absolutely, but some sims model the snap roll really roughly. Monoplane tend to snap substantially faster too so you need to be much quicker with the recovery or you'll end up in awkward and humiliating inverted flight.
Good work! What simulator is this?
Nice series of tutorials there... :) Very well done.

Which stick are you using?

give a touch of left stick
I did it online, its great man, thanks!
sick video
@Ponder1ng Oh okay, thank you for replying.
Would this work in Battlefield 3? I would like to try this out there.
i dont get what you are doing. What do you mean with this o'clock stuff? I guess its only possible with a joysitck.
Sub'd.
I'm going to practice these although my favorite aircraft is the Albatros D.Va.

can i do this with a mouse in ROF. I did it in Dr1 with a mouse.
Requiem do you think that this maneuver is useful in BOS to? I fly 109 and 190 in this sim.
To do these man-overs you have to use a joy stick Not a mouse ?
You can do snap rolls just fine in WT.

hi. is this snap roll ? Managed a kill afterwards. dfWgh4qL5Kk

Thanks. What controls do you use in this video (joystick/mouse/keyboard) ?
I use a Logitech G940, which is a joystick, throttle, and pedal setup.

this is a much better simulator :)
hehe You fought against one of my J99* mates :)
kl thanks m8
Worked :D could do it with PS3 controller :P
I do this all the time, but people claim I just get caught in a spin. They don'y talk so much trash when I tear apart their plane though.

Love it when my opponents do this, intentionally bleeding airspeed, allowing me to climb above and keep the advantage.
try doing it in a camel now, not gonna happen now they destroyed it . to bad was an awesome plane till now.
