    In the books the smugglers are one of the many important factions operating on Arrakis , they deal with distribution of spice and other goods while operating out of the purview of the Guild. If the game is set on Dune then it makes sense they are one of the choices, to leave them out would make less sense.
    Also House Ordos is never even mentioned in the books it has been made up for video games/fan fiction etc...

      True-ish, I think House Ordos was mentioned in the Dune encyclopedia as a member of the Landsraad, but they are otherwise not mentioned. I think they should've made Tleilaxu a faction instead, would have made more sense.

    Ordos were a House made up by the Westwood Studio based on a name "Ordos" in the index of houses, since this One is based on the movies I suspect they might not exist, unless they pull a Northgard on us and create all lesser houses for future DLC.

But for gameplay purposes i can understand it. I do miss the grander scale of the books. Like the different planets and other Houses. BTw Ordos were a fantasy made by Westwood into a game. • @FlawedFabrications
      @FlawedFabrications 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They're using projectile weaponry. It's only lasguns that cause nuclear explosions when they hit shields. Also, there aren't really shields in the game which is kind of sad - but this DOES make sense, because you can't use shields sin the desert without attracting worms.

    Here's my personal hint to make the game a bit more interesting and fun: consider turning up sandstorms and worm frequency up. They're pretty rare in the base game and rarely affect the outcome of anything important, so they're just kind of... There. If you turn them up, it's slightly more engaging because you're more likely to have these events actually matter, and it makes the world feel more dangerous. The only downside is you have to spend more time pulling your harvesters out of the desert, though there IS a setting to auto do that at the expense of a slightly lower spice gain rate.

    OK, I'll say it. I love the David Lynch film. I've watched it countless times since first seeing it on video in 1986. It inspired me to read the books and buy those early Dune games. Yes, the film might have annoyed me if I'd read the books first. The new film is technically better but lacks the passion of the original and the less said the better about the gender swapping of a secondary character who they then barely used and in fact used incorrectly. It just comes across as ticking the woke box for no reason what so ever. It's not like there are no strong women in the book: Gaius Helen Mohiam, Jessica, Chani, the Shadout Mapes, Ramallo (Sayyadina), Irulan and Alia.

    • @09tomforeman
      @09tomforeman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be so mad about a fairly unimportant characters gender is pathetic. The character still played the same role and the death was arguably better than having her wander about delirious in the desert being scolded by the memory of her father for 10 minutes and then blowing up. that would have ruined the tone and pacing of the movie. Oh and Irulan being an example of a strong woman? yeah right

      @@09tomforeman It strikes me that you are more triggered on this subject than I am. I just think it is wrong to ignore what the author wrote. Especially as they put less effort in the new version to show the character changing allegiance. I guess you know better than the author how his story should be told. I also gave a list of strong female roles and you cherry picked one of them. Despite that, Irulan is a core character through this book and the next. Strong character roles doesn't have to mean powerful forces for good. Are you going to suggest that she doesn't strongly influence the story going forward?

    • @09tomforeman
      @09tomforeman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dunk1970 if you say so fella. There are many things that both films missed or changed from the authors writing so that’s a poor argument. Kynes gender has no relevance to the story. the role stayed the same. And the character doesn’t change allegiance, Kynes always does what is best for the Fremen. ‘I guess you know better than the author’ - don’t be a child.. my point about Irulan wasn’t to counter your argument about strong women, I was simply disagreeing that she’s a strong woman. A strong character needs to have… a strong character. Irulan is never in control of her own life and is used by others. After the attempt on Paul she spends her life regretting her choices and trying to make amends. That’s not a strong woman

    • @Dunk1970
      @Dunk1970 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@09tomforeman "don't be a child"? Resorting to name calling now are we when debating if gender swapping for no reason is a good idea. Very mature.
      As you point out, switching the gender didn't affect the story, except in a certain parentage aspect; Oh, and that the Fremen are a patriarchal society. They were just going to let Paul in and sacrifice his mother for her water. And if a Fremen wants another Fremen's wife, he can battle them to the death for her. It was a totally pointless thing to do. I'll rephrase what I've already said, that there are plenty of strong and lead roles played by women in the story. If there weren't many already then there would be as semblance of a case. This gender swap was nothing more than woke box ticking by the director. If you are now going to suggest that it is good to erradicate the patriarchy aspect of the Fremen for sexism reasons, shall we wait and see if they do the same to the Bene Gesserit matriarchy? I sincerely hope they don't as the woke blandification has done enough damage already.
      The fact remains that there was no point in doing it (no lack of strong female roles), and there are valid reasons not to do it (he was an authority figure in a patriarchy), therefore it was wrong and pointless to do it.

    This looks promising - Liet being female is putting me off a slight bit as it doesn’t follow the book but I guess they’re sort of trying to prevent confusion for people who only watched the new movie… (which was great btw!)

    • @Zalinho
      @Zalinho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liet being man or woman is not a big deal of a change, really doesn't matter at all, if you read the book 1, you know what I'm talking about. I think because they got 3 male chars, and they wanted to get the movie vibe and put Liet as a woman.

    • @irbaboon1979

      @@Zalinho in book 1 it doesn’t matter much but it kind of messes up the prequels a bit (if I recall correctly it’s the ‘House…’ series by Brian Herbert); as said, it’s not super important it’s just a bit against canon…

      @@Zalinho The ‘House…’ trilogy is entertaining but very different style and goes a bit too far with Vor’s longevity; the schools trilogy I found a bit lacking… there’s a few books they tried to stuff inbetween original Dune and Messiah, those were ok but forgettable. The jihad trilogy is also fun - Erasmus is just written in a fun way… haven’t followed the series for a while though - might be other books out. Anyway, if you get around to it enjoy but expect a very different style.

      I would say although combat can be very potent I find that so far the alternate victory conditions come into play more often than outright killing people if only because most matches have 4 people. Early on at least 1 or 2 dudes end up getting killed then its a bit of a stalemate until someone gets econ/diplo/hegemony victory (that or someone messed up micro and dies army wise letting the other dude siege) but because there is less of a focus on just straight up rts combat the game plays a bit more slowly.
