Emmylou ; such a beautiful , humble talent in her own right , has sang backup for everyone and always enhanced the show that much more. Rodney Crowell was blessed to work with her.
In Australia back in the nineties a couple of C.D.s, called Singing With Emmylou were released.A collection of songs she had provided harmony, support vocal or shared vocal on.I don't know if they were released internationally.
Every time I see Emmylou just every little thing you do makes me realize that it's true that not just now and then but its simply true that I am a fool over you coming back just to see every little thing that you do making believe what else can I do when you own me like you do over every little thing that you do from that beautiful rhythm that bursts like a pomegranate from within you to my eye over every little thing that you do makes me a simple but lonely fool for all that you do aching for the touch of a simple touch from you over every little thing that you do oh sweet heart of my soul turning and turning hoping to aspire to the touch of every little thing that you do to me your simple but true little fool for you
Both of these singers carved their own niche in country music, by having a style of their own.The one thing that both have done along the way is to bring up alot of the old songs to pay tribute to the people that got them where they are today.Good Job Emmy and Rodney!!
Where did Talent like this go. I don't even turn on the radio anymore. Just CRAP. L@@K Ma, No Strobes, No autotune, No flashing light, Just PURE Talent. May GOD Bless, >
actually he had the mic at the right location...at around the 12 fret...but never in the sound hole due to the boominess...I believe that's what most recording engineers prefer...
so great to see such beautiful smiles upon there faces. lord knows they have both giving us many many smiles over the last 30 years Rodney said he fell in love with Emmy when he started to play with her in the hot band and still loves her. who couldn't help but love this angel...too bad she lost the love of her life when she lost Gram..oh what might of been for Emmy and the world. he did give us a lot in the few years he had just replay this song and listen close you will know what I am saying.
I never thought of it like that but you are right. She is beyond cool. Nothing like our modern concept of cool. She just keeps on delivering. I am no fan of country but I am a fan of Emmy-Lou. I remember seeing an interview with her, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt. Dolly still loved being on the road, Linda was "just beyond tired", having started at 16 and Emmy was just a "road dog" and she so is and I so admire her for it. Being "cool" is not being 18, it is keeping going.
I have seen them together and separately hundreds of times. They are magic. I remember them both well before their hair started turning gray. I always thought they should have gotten married. I saw Emmylou in Houston and Rodney's parents JW and Causette were there. If you didn't know who they were you wouldn't have known. They acted like they were her parents and she acyed like she was their daugter. They really are something together.
Hank Snow was one of Elvis biggest Idol`s was it was no suprise that he recorded this beautiful song. Rodney & Emmylou Performance of the song is also very nice It`s a great Country Ballad with a sweet melody.
Rodney is a modern day version of Dylan ,a underrated poet, his lyrics & compositions have told many a tale! Emmylou on the other hand was a talented, beautiful yardstick ,on which many successful female artististes ,strived & failed to meet her achievements equally stars in their own rights .love them both.
If I recall, he did it another time while appearing on the Opry and said he thought he deserved an extra round of applause for having the guts to sing it with Hank Snow in the building, since Snow had the original hit on it (I believe before Elvis). He got the applause, and he deserved it. Great stuff! Thanks for posting.
Yes, Hank Snow 1953. I was in Yokohama, Japan listening to AFRS(Armed Forces Radio Station)‘s “4 O’Clock Jamboree”. As I aged I liked a cover that Jim Reeves did with his velvety voice.
They both do a great job on this song but this song is so fantastic and so beautiful that I think anyone could sing it and it would be good...even Dwight Yoakum.
Best acoustic guitar in the world!! You got that guitar sounding great..kors its YOU! If i played.it wouldnt sound that Good! You got it alright! I love u too Rodney.
Re the elmar9 query on the bass player. It's Byron House. The groove between drummer Buddy Harmon and Byron is incredible.Terrific backup musicians on this performance. Makes it so easy for Emmylou and Rodney. This video is a keeper. It has to be one of the best versions ever of this great song. Thanks for posting it!
@@davidoickle1778 Okay nice info. I was surprised how good Hank was a flat top player. Listen to Glen Campbell "Gone , Gone , Gone" 1989. Hank was one of 3 players doing the break. Reggie Young, Hank and Glen/Pat Flynn. He really surprised. Thx
I listen to this...and as good as they are, I imagine Emmylou singing this with Gram Parsons. If you've ever heard the handful of duets Emmylou sang with Gram, you'd know what I mean. Gram taught her well..the world is lucky Emmylou dropped Drama in favor of being a Country musician.
I have no idea why men have to be so patronizing to women, period, but to a living legend?? Come on, time to get your head straight! If you know what Parsons said at their first meeting, you’d feel real silly asserting that “Gram taught her well.” He didn’t have to teach her a damned thing....she opened her mouth and started singing harmony with him like they’d done it all their lives, she blew him right away. The only thing she lacked in her career was exposure, and he made sure she got that. But her talent and chops were there when he met her.
Rodney does a BEAUTIFUL job with this song, but even before I read your comment I thought about Emmylou singing it with Gram, one of the most heartfelt singers ever. She said she knew she had a voice but didn't know what to do with it until she sang with Gram. If one actually reads about their interactions he did indeed educate her in country music. Brought her recordings to listen to. Even Chris Hillman said he gives Gram credit for what he did with bringing Emmy along. Nothing patronizing about it; she says it herself.
I think I was saying in my post, to which Nitropost kindly replied was that I love Emmylou, particularly with Hot Band and of course with Rodney Crowell (I agree those two should have got together years ago; even now the chemistry scorches the stage.) I also liked her with the Trio even if some of the songs were over-sentimental. She is the epitome of "cool" to me. She has more than held her own for decades in a man's world. However, I was not having a go at Linda for not wanting to tour any more. Far from it. I love Linda and well understood why she got tired of touring. I am with Nitropost that she did it as long as she could. She started out very young and her song choices (to me anyway) spoke always of an intense longing for roots. Also she had adopted children. I don't know how long the illness was a factor. I wish her well.
Linda has Parkinsons Disease. If you go up the top and type in Linda Ronstadt Parkinsons Disease you will see the interview she did after she got it. What a cruel way for a talented lady to have to give up what she clearly loved doing.
Gary M Makes you think of Jacqueline du Pré, the cellist who had MS. My lady just died of MS a few months ago, and I know how terrible the frustration and fear can be as you see yourself degenerate before your own eyes. Gd help us all.

Rodney Crowell’s pure, natural tenor voice cannot be beat on this song. Just perfect.
Top shelf it doesn't get any better than these two wonderful people
Rodney Crowell is one helluva talent!
Love Buddy Miller helping them out! Great version of a great old song! Recorded live, no touch ups. Just great musical talent!

Rodney and Emmy do such a beautiful job on this old classic. I love Rodney's performance of this song.
Love it....Always special when Emmylou adds her angelic voice

People thought Batman and Robin were the dinamic duo!!
Fantastic ! Love them both.
I love when Emmylou holds the microphone for the acoustic solo. Such a strong, sweet connection between these two great talents!
Yeah, but he was plugged in, not mic'ed. That's why you don't hear a change in the volume. Mic was likely off at that point.
actually he had the mic at the right location...at around the 12 fret...but never in the sound hole due to the boominess...I believe that's what most recording engineers prefer...
Beautiful team. Beautifully sung. ❤
My two favourite singers.saw them when they came to Australia
It was good to see him perform it's been awhile was awesome
Rodney has a great voice and does an outstanding job on this song.
Emmylou adds a lot also.
two great sngers, and neither one are conceited. I love them both and they do this beautiful song so well..

Might just be the best version.
Rodney. One talented dude.

Emmylou has said that Rodney is, 'like her little brother'. Her parents loved him, too, according to interviews she has given. 🙂
One of my favorite duets/recordings.
Elvis recorded this country classic back in March 1959 . RCA Victor Single 45 rpm # 47-7506 and had a Big Hit with it !
I've only recently discovered RC and am only a part time country fan, but wow what a song writing genius!
Hank Snow was one of Elvis biggest Idol`s was it was no suprise that he recorded this beautiful song. Rodney & Emmylou Performance of the song is also very nice It`s a great Country Ballad with a sweet melody.
Fantastic. Emmylou's done a great service by dueting with some of the best country/rock stars
Good sounds....
Tks
Written by Bill Trader in 1952. Performed by Hank Snow, it peaked at number four on the country charts in 1953.

Rodney and Emmylou along with Patty Loveless and Vince Gill are two of the best duos in country music.
Love this!!!

I like the version by Elvis best but this comes a close second, a great performance, mind you, with Emmylou & Rodney it’s always good to hear.

Damn
..i am im love with Rodney. I played this at least 1000 times cz i love that break he played on acoustic! Nah...its HIM!
So sweet
Love both of them great singer
Awesome two
One might say this song has a special meaning for Rodney and his "never-ending love" for Emmylou..
after listening this is good as the original.
So beautiful!,,, great picking Rodney too!
I have always loved both of them, this is great
Awesome performance! How gentle.

I agree..... what great picking from Rodney.🎸

ditto that!
Fine rendition of an old song.
Great Hank Snow classic remember him? 50's & 60's singer from Nashville via Nova Scotia Canada. (the singing ranger!) mosrite60
Oh, hell yes, I remember him. I'm 78 years old. I remember EVERYTHING.
ABSOLUTELY remember Hank Snow, "The Singing Ranger". What a guitar picker he was. Definitely one of my all-time favorite
musician/guitarist.🎸
From Brooklyn Nova Scotia to be exact.

The only concert I've ever cried at....love these two! Too bad electric player didn't learn the solo ;) lol
Brilliant, just like country music must sound.
So brilliant. I love em both....Oooo and that Emmylou
It's a nice version but it's also one of the special songs that Elvis sang really well.
Zo een prachtige song …
Sang it all those years ago. Still a good song
Very good!!! Elvis released his version on june 10th 1958....
Nope, he _recorded_ it on that date....it was _released_ on March 10, 1959. And Hank Snow released his iconic version in 1952.
If there is a cooler woman on earth than Emmylou she would have to be living outdoors at the South Pole.
Is that Buddy Miller playing lead guitar?

Good version of the song--gotta love live performances.
Sounds very Tompall and the Glaser Bros! Love me some Rodney and love me some Emmy Lou!

she was THE BEST
Hank would approve of this version of one of his greatest songs.
I just want to get this vid to play all the way thru just once. Must be this internet connection or my Vista.
Doesn't get any better, RC and Emmylou.
Great job!
great to see this again - THANKS. I remember when this aired. Rodney had said he always dreamed of singing this on the Opry.
No mention of Hank Snow ? he recorded this in 1953.
Good song. thanks very much for posting.
When you see the WSM radio station letters, you know you're watching the Grand Ole Opry...
Great take on a great song
I love them both. Enjoy this video a lot!
Beautiful Country Version of Elvis late 50`s hit
This is a cover of Hank Snow's original country version from 1953.
