    Lifetime barefooter here and 62 now. I have always gone barefoot everywhere, shops, city, parks etc but over the last few months have started doing longer barefoot walks. Usually 10-15kms but sometimes less, usually on a Saturday or Sunday. What a difference walks like this make to your feet and general feeling of health! My soles are now tougher and smoother and my feet are certainly wider than they were previously. My walks are generally a mix of pavements and grass and the feelings transmitted through my soles is amazing. On my last walk it was so cool when another guy was walking towards me also barefoot and smiled and said hello! Would love to have stopped and had a chat.
    Barefoot is the absolute best and more people should try it!

      Being barefoot is definitely the right choice for me in almost all situations. I feel so much more present and in the moment when I can feel the ground under my feet. I totally know the feeling of meeting another barefoot person. It's such a rare sight that I am always happy when it happens.

    Hey, guys, did you ever notice that when you wiggle your toes, your big toe moves in opposition to your other four toes? This is because it is an opposable digit, just like the thumb. You don't see this on the paws of quadrupeds. We have opposable big toes because in our evolutionary past, we had four hands, just like Old World monkeys and apes still do. Our feet used to be hands. The sole of the foot is the same kind of sensory organ as the palm of the hand, and shoes are as much sensory deprivation as if you wore thick, rigid rubber slabs on the palms of your hands.

      I started wiggling my toes and trying to move the toes individually a few weeks ago after reading that we can technically articulate our toes individually. There is definite progress but it is very slow going. But, in general, my feet have changed a lot since I stop putting casts on them ;)

    Like you, i went barefoot overnight. It took a few weeks for my feet to toughen up but soon enough I was able to do everything barefoot on the farm that everyone else does in boots. I find my bare feet so practical and comfortable now

    Lovely video! I've been going barefoot around the house for about half a year and finally started walking barefoot outside regularly two weeks ago. I can already feel the difference in the thickness of the skin. After seeing yours, I'm glad to see they can become tough but still look normal! Thanks for sharing!

    Nice view. Today, people frown when you walk barefoot. I walk in winter or summer in nature because there are too many broken glasses in the city. It's so light and you calm down and get quiet. I want to feel!

    • @RootsandCalluses

      I go grocery shopping and all that barefoot, too. The good thing about cities is that everything is so flat and "perfect" that you see issues right away. I think the last time I wore any kind of protection in a city was when we had visitors and they wanted to see the Reeperbahn (Hamburg, Germany) at night where everyone is drunk and glass is everywhere. In the dark, I was glad I had sandals.

    In some places, being barefoot in stores and restaurants is illegal. I know a couple who go barefoot almost all the time, and they keep sandals in their car for when they have to go where shoes are mandatory.

    • @RootsandCalluses
      @RootsandCalluses  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Luckily, things are a lot less strict where I live. I can go grocery shopping and such without shoes. I have yet to be kicked out somewhere. I know especially the US is a bit more strict here, though "illegal" is often not actually true. While there seem to be laws for employees, customers usually don't have to fulfill those requirements and it's only the store policy, not a law.

    If I understood correctly you started barefooting because of chronic back pain? I have had disabilitating chronic back pain for 15 years when I stopped wearing shoes the back pain also stopped. I now hike barefoot on all surfaces 5 to 15 km a day. If I have to wear shoes for any reason my back starts hurting in less than 1 hour. Diferent paths, same destination. I just have one ( i think construtive) criticism, cut the music and the subtitles . I personatly would rather here your words as over voice over reading them. much more personal and relatable. Live long and barefoot!

    • @RootsandCalluses
      @RootsandCalluses  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The music and subtitles are a preference. I have a channel where I talk and this was supposed to be a calm quiet one 🙂
      Yes, back pain was the main reason but it was a lot of little things that added up. I am really happy to hear barefooting has helped you as much as me.

    I never wore shoes when I was a kid and even in my teen years. I have seen on another channel where a lady called it "earthing" I don't know about that but I like walking bare foot....until I step on a wasp in the grass or worse a cow killer. Those hurt worse.
    You may not have those where you live but I have to ask if toughening your feet up helps when you step on a wasp? Does it make your skin tougher so you can feel it as bad? Thank you if you have time to answer.

    • @RootsandCalluses
      @RootsandCalluses  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know about grounding or earthing. I'm a scientist and the electron transfer stuff sounds questionable to me. But I definitely feel better when I am outside with a connection to the ground. I've stepped on bees and wasps before but all before going fully barefoot. I'd assume it would be a lot harder to get stung now. Did you see the pinned comment? There's a video on my feet, and there's also a full article defending my choice to go barefoot.

    I love bare female feet, and yours are just as pretty as they are tough. This kinda makes me want to try barefooting myself, but my flat feet and faulty ankles makes it impossible. I literally need hiking boots for long walks.

    • @RootsandCalluses
      @RootsandCalluses  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't have to go all in. Start on easy ground like earth, grass, or moss. Your flat feet and ankles will get stronger. My ankles were very weak when I started, my arch completely collapsed.

      I no longer buy from IKEA but there are a lot of old or used IKEA things in this house. Make sure to dry the knives very well before putting them in and soak the holder occasionally. Wooden holders aren't ideal and critters can enjoy the crumbs and yuck that gets into the thin slits. We haven't had issues yet with it but I have seen other wooden knife holders where animals started crawling out when it was submerged, so I am a bit overly cautious with the thing.
