@@essielewis1070Players aren’t that big in Rugby because they have to run. No timeouts or play clocks. NFL players have terrible tackle techniques. @usarugbyleagueunionfan this isn't true either. Rugby Players are predominantly power athletes with endurance bolted on. Look at the French or South African pack and tell me they're not big. International backs average over 200lbs. NFL tackling has evolved according to the demands of the game. There's less 1v1 tackling in open play than in rugby, there are generally fewer tackles and there are players who are tackling specialists on an NFL roster (linebackers, tackles) while others would be expected to tackle only in extremis (punters, wide receivers) and the players are wearing pads. The kind of tackling you see in the NFL is suited to the game, using the pads as a weapon and trying to stop the attacker on the gainline or the qb before he can pass. Likewise rugby, where most of the tackling is head or side on, the lack of pads make form important and every player has to do it multiple times in a game. The tackling form is different because they are different games. Could they learn from each other? Without doubt. But it's wrong to say the tackling in the NFL is bad it's evolved to suit the game.
