He’s my struggling reader/writer and I don’t ever want to put too much importance on something “that won’t keep him out of heaven”. Hi Sherry. My jaw dropped when I saw you posted video about this specifically and I feel it was entirely meant for me. I didn’t think to type in “mcguffeys for my distracted child” because I thought for sure I was alone out here. I found a set of the McGuffey books at a thrift store - I had never even heard of it. I picked it up because they were pretty on the shelf…. and then I was intrigued by the carved block printing technique used for the illustrations- that was the only reason I took them home. Then I read the first few pages talking about the mission and purpose of the book and nearly cried about how this book made its way into my home. I have spent HOURS, weeks and months researching and searching for a reading curriculum, yet it actually found ME. Fast forward to a few lessons in, and I have a distracted little guy. Long story short, this video was again so reassuring that we are in the right direction. 😭🙏 so so grateful for the resources you have provided- I know it will work perfect for us!!! Thank YOU!
This is a God send! I was i tears the other day because I go through a lot of frustration and even anxiety at times with my 6 yr old son because he gets so easily distracted! 😭 I don’t want his homeschool memories to be horrible but beautiful. I’m glad to know that there are others out there that understand and even better you have provided good resources and curriculum for that!! Thank you! God bless you!!!

I think this will work great for one of my children that is resistant to writing and easily distracted. I may try putting the lesson sheet right behind the lesson and bind it together so that she's not switching from one book to another. She tends to get "lost" in between books.

@@MomDelightsanother question…I struggle with knowing if my daughter is reading enough during the day. She will read for 20mns in the evening. Do you think the short stories in the McGuffy readers is enough reading during the day? Not including night reading?
Yes. It sounds like she is doing quite well, it really helps if she is reading something she really likes (even if it isn't necessarily educational or "literature" but a bit silly or a reference book concerning something she is interested in) until she feels confident in her reading skills. He does well on telling time on the hour but I am trying to make it more fun because he is getting bored/discouraged from not grasping minutes. (I have skip counted 5s with him and have drawn a pie, used fractions on clock, etc) So we have backed off and I am wsiting on the Lord to show me what do do with my little cowboy. 🤠🐄
Yes, Thank You, Lord! It occurs to me you could tie something fun to exact times on the clock, such as cookies at 10:37, but he can only have them if he reminds you at the exact time (without a smart phone alarm, lol).

I've recently discovered my daughter has it and it explains so much of why she hates writing and the distractibility among other things! These are a fantastic resource. Thank you for the suggestion. I read the description and it does not sound as if this fits her. She can write legibly, she simply doesn't prefer it :). That's OK, because I think it is a phase we will grow out of soon...
I have 3 of the newer revised versions but after seeing the originals in several of your videos I’m intrigued by how much more of the Gospel it implements. Would you suggest getting the original set just based on that? I’d say so if there is a significant difference.

I did cursive first with my youngest in k-5 (with Abeka) I was skeptical at first but it was so much easier to teach at a younger age!

I've watched a lot of your McGuffey videos and really like the idea, but how do you teach them to write (paragraphs, essays, and stuff)?

Actually, I don't print McG's from Gutenberg, I print them from Google Books.
