    Did you use or do you recommend any resources/reference books for Mom to read to learn more about reading comprehension for K-3? Appreciate your videos and resources so much! Thank you!

      Have you heard of Shifting the Balance? It's geared toward the public classroom but the same principles apply. amzn.to/3X5J6Uv

    Looks great! I guess I wonder if it's overdoing the McGuffys and Robinson Curriculum as they are? I used to have and teach with the McGuffys, and still have an old version of the RC, I just didn't see the need to supplement it as it was quite a lot as it was with 4 children. Not criticizing you at all, it just seems like a lot to me. And like i said, it really does look great!

      I hear what you're saying. I never did it with four kids at once! It's worked out well for us. I am replacing some components of RC, like their vocabulary and how they would do writing, so it's not exactly all of RC plus this McG plan. I also think the kids benefit from continued explicit reading instruction and comprehension practices that RC does not include. I'm a eat the fish, spit out the bones philosophy over here.

    Are you using flash cards as they learn and know most of the sounds? Or only at the beginning?

    • @landofkakiakahomeschool
      @landofkakiakahomeschool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      both! I use them mostly to drill in the beginning, like pre-reading stage and then as review and to introduce new graphemes as they come up in the readers. I'll go over this in more detail when I go through the levels of the plan so stay tuned!

    Do you consider the McGuffy stories long enough reading? The stories just seem very short.

      I think they are perfect for daily lessons. My kids also read independently each day and do an assignment with each book.

    Love this so much! I currently have a 1st & a 2nd grader using both TGATB and AO. I am considering switching to your McGuffey recommendations and your books (you are brilliant btw) to go alongside AO. Any advice for how I would decide where to place them in the McGuffey readers? My oldest is level 2 LA in TGATB and my youngest is level K LA in TGATB.

    • @landofkakiakahomeschool
      @landofkakiakahomeschool 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I'm guessing the Primer for the Kinder level and perhaps the first or second reader for the second grader. There is a page of my McGuffey plan that has estimated readers and grade levels if you go look at the listing photos. If you don't already have the readers you could use the pdf versions that are free online to see how far they can read fluently and which phonographs they read correctly. I hope that helps!

    Regarding the Usborne Grammar and Punctuation books, Amazon states 9 to 12 year old age range. Would you agree with that?
    Have you seen their flip-flap book on this topic? It looks so cute.

    • @landofkakiakahomeschool
      @landofkakiakahomeschool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t seen the flip flap book. I’ll have to look for it. I would say that’s a good age range for the regular Illustrated Grammar and Punctuation but we use the First Illustrated Grammar and Punctuation earlier though I am guiding using it as a reference and my student isn’t just given it to read them self.
