I knew nothing about Dr. West until he made a guest appearance on Craig Ferguson's show for Black History Month. So I read his books. This man is an absolute American treasure. Ferguson is another great American--first talk show host that I've ever seen ask real questions based on his own curiosity rather than some prepared rhetoric. Born in Scotland, he came at the interview from his own naivete' about the American Black experience. Beautiful.
That was in fact a great few moments on Real Time! Dr West is awesome, he should have a show of his own. But the chemistry in this panel that night jelled perfectly, no matter who you agreed with! Very entertaining indeed!
Ron is right when he says the fabric that held this country together is that we are all Americans regardless of who's rich/middle class/poor. THE PROBLEM is that a lot of people have forgotten that & have allowed their GREED to cloud all good judgment. Now, that has ALWAYS gone on since day 1, but it has increased with frightening speed over the last 40, 50 years. That's why we've seen good middle income jobs disappear and I don't think they are ever coming back. Sucks for America.
This is the greatest political show of our time, not because it is mainly liberal, but because it is intelligent and insightful and explores the depths of actual conversation, and there's a lot of laughs thrown in by the host. This is an excellent format that you can only get on HBO.
His thesis was, corporations can have affect on the entire populace and economy without accountability. Because they have so much power in the nation, he believes the fact that they are so heavily unregulated and non-elected is the reason for the economic problems and increasing wealth gap within the society.
Cornell West carrier and how people find his mindless incoherent ramblings to somehow be intelegible, let alone intelligent. He speaks with a poetic reverence, but never makes an actual point or stays on topic for more than a few seconds.

Speaking as a social libertarian/economic socialist, I can say that Ron Paul has gotten my ear in his direction more than any recent Republican I can name. But I don't think poor people in this country would be better off if he were President, nor do I think he would go along with anything Cornel West said here.
