One of the things we really love about this scene is that it felt less like a grand romantic soapy love scene and more like real life - sweet but kind of awkward at the same time, with Erica needing reassurance that she meant something to David, that he wouldn't think badly of her if they slept together without being in love. :)
David & Erica AMC I find it interesting that Erica is self-conscious about being intimate with David because she isn't some naive school girl experiencing things for the first time. David's opinion of her is so important to Erica that she felt the need to be honest with him in that moment about her lack of feelings of love for him. Like you said that is what makes this scene feel genuine and what made their relationship special. We've seen Erica use men and toss them away, but with David it was different. I look forward to watching more of their relationship unfold.
It's interesting because they'd seen each other more or less at their worst in the 'basement' scenes when she held him captive, and he'd seen her scarred face and still thought she was beautiful, so in a way they had a much greater level of intimacy than she'd had in most other relationships, even before they fell in love. They're also both very volatile yet vulnerable people who've been hurt badly in the past, and they both struggle over the course of the romance to figure out how to handle these intense feelings they have for each other. Agnes Nixon was the head writer during this time, and she did a great job with Erica and David.
David and Erica were such a hot and sexy couple together! I hadn't see a hot soap couple come along like this..since 1983 when we had Jimmy Lee Holt.and Celia Quartermaine on General Hospital..
