@KaiZammit It's a bit of an older game from the golden age of Konami and PS2, but "Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner" is absolutely worth your time. Since you're a big fan of science fiction and great storytelling, I really feel like you would appreciate ZOE 2. Zone of the Enders is a series, like Star Wars, where the sequel really built well on the universe and made the potential of the underlying narrative shine. At LEAST the intro cinematic would be very much worth your while and likely get you interested (about 7.5 minutes in length). They remastered the game in 2012 and it's surprising how well the original visuals held up (but still, of course I prefer the OG treatment). The score is on par with Halo for being ancient, epic, and mysterious and Konami really hit it out of the park with ZOE 2. Thank you for being such a wonderful liaison between the common man and the magic of filmmaking. Thank you for doing what you do.
There's so much to digest here - I see the "Welcome Home" sign as a cancelled celebration for a soldier returning from the war... but also as a message to those of us who loved the original trilogy and original characters. I think that was very much intentional. Thank you for another terrific video.
During the Locust invasion, they "inked" the skies to block out the sun, which likely explains the weird lighting in the trailer. I forget all the details surrounding it, so hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in. :)
@kaizammit Yeah a key part of the Locust war machine was a species of animals called Seeders that acted both as radio jammers and artillery. They fired biological mortars called Nemacyst that leave a trail of ink wherever they fly
@@kaizammit They did! And if I recall correctly, it was mainly to allow the Kryll to wipe out mass populations really quickly The Kryll were almost like bats that could only come out at night, as they didn't like light. They were in the first Gears game, and any time you entered darkness they'd devour you. Terrified me as a kid 😂
@@kaizammitThey would block out the sun using creatures called Nemacysts that would ink the sky. Another creature called Kryll were sensitive to UV, it almost immediately burns them to death. You mention the power of the piano chord, associated with the reveal of Dom, at 32:30, as well as how the fans must feel when they see him and hear the music. You're spot-on, as that music is being used as a leitmotif from the fate of Dom the last time we saw him in the games.
The reason the in engine trailer looks so good is because The Coalition, the studio who make Gears of war, used to work for Epic Games who makes Unreal Engine, before being bought by Microsoft. The Coalition knows what they are doing when it comes to this type of stuff. Especially when they will be using Unreal Engine 5 of Gears of War E-day and seem to be masters at the craft.
So glad youre finally covering this. Some backstory this is Day 1 Zero hour of Emergence Day. 6 weeks prior the 80 year long Pendelum War came to an end. The war was between the Coalition of Organized Governments(COG) and the Union of Independent Republic(UIR) and was fought for Imulsion a new fuel source. Marcus and Dom here are 14 years younger then the 1st game. This is the very first time anyone has seen or faced a Locust. This is why Marcus is ragdolled and overpowered by a standard Drone, along with how brutally strong the Locust are. The first 24 hours 25% of the Seran(Humans) population was killed. The reason for the odd lighting is cuz the skies are being Inked. Subterranean creatures from the Hollow(underground ecosystem) known as Seeders were used to launch out biological mortars known as Nemecysts. They would emit thick black ink to not only cut off communication and disrupt air support but to make way for the Kryll. Kryll were bat like creatures tht voraciously devoured any biological life not in UV Light. In UV light they combust. Those big red pits are Emergence Holes. Made by large spider like crab creatures known as Corpsers(you can see one ontop a building on the far right). They dig through the crust collapsing anything above down, allowing Locust and Hollow creatures to swarm out. The Leaders of the Locust strategically launched attacks on major cities and population centers all at once.
As soon as I saw the hand grab Marcus I know it was Dom. But when that piano hit I had a tear in my eye. This is probably my favourite game reveal trailer since we first saw Chief out in space in Halo Infinite about 5 years ago.
Kai dude. So stoked you keep hitting the best cinematics. Yes Marcus is younger. 14 years younger than in Gears of War one. Before prison. Before the Hammer strikes and the burning of the world. Man I cant wait. The welcome home is from the pendulum wars. which lasted over 80 years. Emergence Day (E-Day) happened 6 weeks after the Armistice of the Pendulum Wars. If you get the chance and like the Gears of War 1-3 story read or listen to the audiobooks. They are amazing and fill out the rest of the world. Back to the Video.
I don't know much about Dom (or gears or film making) before watching this trailer for the first time but I felt like crying a bit during Dom's reveal. The piano and slower pace is really strong.
I'm not in the industry, but I know some things about gears of war lore. And the changes from the lighting outside are subject to change by locust seeders, even if they're far away. Seeders haven't done what they do (yet) = still bright outside. Seeders start doing what they do = becomes gradually darker.
Loved your breakdown of this trailer! This game is going back to the horror aspect that had me hooked into this series. Ive been wanting to ask this also, will we be getting cutscene videos for gears of war? Similar to how you did with halo.
Yes you will! It's on my list to shoot this month, after Halo 4 all cutscenes. I'll start with Gears of War 1 and see how that does and do you guys like it before going onto gears of war 2. Need a new series as we've just finished Star Wars TOR. Final video out this week.
You may have touched on this, but the reason there is the welcome home sign and the war is over, is because the Pendulum Wars had just finished when E-Day happened
@@kaizammit Yeah! Its very partially playable in Gears of War 4. Depends who you consider the "good" guys as far as the Lore goes, but as players go The COG is the good guys!
So a little lore in Gears of War the Planet is called Sera and you play As Marcus Fenix who is soldier in Coalition of Ordered Government's(C.O.G.) "The War is Over" is referring to an in universe resource war that took place on the planet called the Pendulum Wars. In universe the is a period of history called the Era of Silence ths was a period of uninterrupted peace that lasted until the Pendulum Wars. Although most conflict was solved peacefully, civil liberties and crime remained troublesome social issues even in a Golden Age of culture, science, and the arts. Yet one problem stood prominent above the rest: energy. Sera's sources of petroleum and nuclear fuel were not sufficient to meet the global demand. Imulsion, with its promise of near limitless energy, was thought to be the solution to mankind's greatest need. The era ended with the onset of the Gold Rush. Following the perfection of the Lightmass Process, the hope that cheap energy would perpetuate the Golden Age was shattered. The global economy crumbled, leaving only the few nations with access to Imulsion unscathed. Those nations without Imulsion, faced with an economic collapse and utter ruin, launched an invasion against their neighbors to obtain that key resource; once again, Sera was at war. The battle lines were drawn between the Union of Independent Republics and the Coalition of Ordered Governments. The seventy-nine year war, which would be referred to as the Pendulum Wars by the whole of Sera, almost destroyed both factions and Sera itself, with the reemergence of weapons of mass destruction The Battle of Aspho Fields ushered in the end of the Pendulum Wars two years later thanks to the development of the Hammer of Dawn, but the decades of conflict had exacted a heavy price from the people of Sera. It seemed that unified under the victorious Coalition of Ordered Governments, Sera could finally enter a second Golden Age. Nearly 79 years after the Pendulum Wars began, almost all human cities came under surprise attack by the Locust Horde, who killed over a quarter of all human life on Sera within the first 26 hours: an attack now known as Emergence Day. Emergence Day(E-Day) happens six weeks after so the Pendulum Wars are still quite fresh in the minds of worlds(S population and thats where this game if down right will portray the Locust are far tougher, Stronger and bigger than the Average Saran so it pretty much bench press Marcus into the ceiling is incredibly accurate also the man helping him is Dominic Santiago or Dom to players Marcus one of Marcus's closest friends.
This is why I mentioned you should watch this before, I KNEW you would have a damn field day going over this BEAUTIFUL work of art! Great breakdown, and it's great to see how much you appreciate the work done, it could only have been better if you had more familiarity with the lore like with halo! Because for me, I've been a fan of this franchise since the original mad world trailer, and that music ALONE...hit me right in the nostalgia feels! Hell I'll admit I teared up a little because of how well they recaptured the feel of the original with the desperation/horror of fighting the locust horde (they actually upped the scale of it to represent this is their first encounter with them) It just took me back, and like you said...that moment with Dom, knowing what happens later (and again mad world having been his send-off piece) As you noted multiple times, chefs kiss!!! Appreciate you giving this a watch!! Side note: as others have mentioned, the "war is over" and "welcome home" references were because humanity had like literally JUST ended an 80 year war amongst themselves, some soldiers didnt even have a chance to come home before the locust attack!!
Not smoke Ink. Seeders launched out biological creatures called Nemecysts. They acted as living mortars and also emitted thick ink to block out the skies. This was to make communication difficult, reduce air support and allow the Kryll to devour anyone in the dark, as they combusted upon UV light.
so here are some things about this trailer E-day stands for emergence day when the locust came from underground and started exterminating humanity this takes place 14 years before the first game. What you are seeing is the first time marcus fighting a locust drone and it shows how fearsome they are that is why marcus struggled to kill it is his first time encountering one. Since it is E-day the chainsaw lancer has not been invented so he is using a retro lancer with a bayonet. The reason why it went from daylight to all dark out is because the locust is blocking out the sky. The newspaper saying the war is over they are referring to the pendulum wars which was a war between the coalition of orxered governments(cog) and united independent republic(uir) which lasted 80 years.
I just want to say I don't think I'll ever do anything in my career that can actually use the knowledge I gain from you, but it is so interesting hearing all the elements that go into camera work watching your videos. I find it all fascinating! It makes me wonder what you would think of cinematics in games like the dead space remaster as I'm blown away by a lot of the dr mercer cutscenes and i'm now curious how much went into it that i just never noticed. I'm all on board for you going through ingame cinematics in future :D
I'd love too tbh, the only thing is it can be difficult to break down something as I'm seeing it for the first time. I don't have the brain capacity to do it all. This normally comes when covering all cutscenes in a game. If I started breaking them down, it would be a 6 hour video! Haha
This is the first time I’ve heard of a new gears game coming, not sure how I missed it honestly, and I’m pumped! I absolutely love and adore this franchise. 4 and 5 missed the bar imo. But seriously the original trilogy with the additional stories from all the novels that go along with it is one of my favorite stories. Karen Traviss is an amazing story teller.
something to speculate, it says in game footage and if I recall the older 1-3 games had this darker green, more gritty styling to it. They abandoned the dark gritty green horror vibes towards gears 3-5 and the style changed quite a bit. I remember the director saying in an interview or something that they've realised they tried some new styling and it didn't feel like the old gears games and to further prove that, the sales of the series haven't been nearly as successful. So they decided to go back to their roots, horror is coming back, dark n gritty is coming back, and this is the first time anyone has ever seen a locust. So marcus's reactions are genuine, he's terrified and knows just how strong they really are. Humans are weak compared to a drone.. and that's *just* one drone... there's still so many other kinds of species, and the COG are severely outnumbered here.
So more info for you on this trailer. It was made by Blur- the studio that did the cut scenes for halo 2A and halo wars 1+2. But all using in game assets from unreal engine 5
It's funny how after his hand gets stepped on, in the next wide shot after his scream, his hand isn't being stepped on anymore. Bit of continuity error there (though technically maybe he pulls his hand back in the time he screams). The bullet holes on the ceiling also disappear when he gets slammed into the ceiling.
Very interesting, you made me regret my career choice. Well done. I think it was day time and cedars (locust creature) started to ink the sky up to jam communication.
I bet the scene was cut short for trailer purposes (Literally could be wrong lol) or the clouds cover up the sun before it shows a full pan of what is going on with the world (could also be wrong but its a guess (* ̄ー ̄) )
Hey KAI, I think it would be fun to see you play through some of these games that interest you. Or maybe you could do some reviews on games, shows, or movies. Is that something that you would consider?
I'd love to fella, if I was a full-time content creator, absolutely! Being that I do this part time or when I can, it's a little bit difficult. I struggle to find time to game and I love gaming. Thank you watching and wanting to see more of me doing something, it's awesome to hear tbh.
I agree, these games are like playing a movie and the gears franchise is known to have amazing in-game events outside the cutscenes too. You usually use "Y" to perform a close-up of the event happening. Man, even if it was just the first Gears, Kai would have a lot of fun experiencing it.
@@kaizammit it isn't necessary but if you want to understand some lore then you can, Season 4 is lore leading into Season 5 but completely up to you! There are 20 season (Introducing new characters each) but I really want you to react to this season in particular!
Thank you for watching! I always do full reactions where I just watch it before I break it down. Look the the white title card Filmmaker Reaction, that's the actual start.
@@kaizammit Im not going to lie I was seeing a lot of shorts show the "good bits" first then going back to the start right before watching your vid, So I clicked ahead and watched your breakdown before the first reaction hahahah 🤣
No way! I hope you still enjoyed the video!? If you skip the intros in future, look for the white splash screen. It's either reaction or breakdown so you'll know where you are in the video.
You know, the OG Gears of War games did a great job telling a story, but the atmosphere to me felt so detached from any sense of reality (which isn't a terrible thing, but to me, personally, it makes it feel a little less relatable). Everything was destroyed, there were no people to be seen with the exception of two or three times we came across some stranded. Even when they showed us the brief glimpse of E Day in the OG series, it felt like the war had just always existed between humanity and the Locust Horde. But here, showing us the start of it all, the King Ravens flying around, looking for targets and survivors of the onslaught, it just tells a much better story without saying a word.
I'm going to cover all the cutscenes on Gears of War soon so it'll be interesting to watch with your comment in my head. Stay tuned for the new series. Need something now we've just finished Star Wars TOR.

Now that makes sense!!
@@kaizammitit was made in unreal engine 5 itself
It's funny how after his hand gets stepped on, in the next wide shot after his scream, his hand isn't being stepped on anymore. Bit of continuity error there (though technically maybe he pulls his hand back in the time he screams). The bullet holes on the ceiling also disappear when he gets slammed into the ceiling.
Gary Jules - Mad World ... but super slow ... kinda nice
I dig it!
I damn near cried seeing Dom again
Very interesting, you made me regret my career choice. Well done. I think it was day time and cedars (locust creature) started to ink the sky up to jam communication.
It's never too late to try stuff, even if it's you on your own trying out things.
@@kaizammit Oh I get that. Thanks for responding though. Nice vid 👍
I agree, these games are like playing a movie and the gears franchise is known to have amazing in-game events outside the cutscenes too. You usually use "Y" to perform a close-up of the event happening. Man, even if it was just the first Gears, Kai would have a lot of fun experiencing it.
I'd just hope you guys would enjoy watching me play, your entertainment and viewing experience to me is no1. :D
Thanks sir!
You're most welcome, I hope you enjoyed it!
I’ve waited for this 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dom is 21, and marcus is 22, even tho they look much older. War/stress ages your body so thats mist likely why
E-Day takes place 14 years before Gears of War 1
Gears isn't set on Earth so the moonlight could be brighter lol
was a good trailer, wished it showed more tho but still good
I was 19 when I got my first gears tattoo😢
Was it the Cog logo?
@@kaizammit indeed from the second game good days
That was great
Kai could you react and break down the cinematic for Revenant in Apex Legends season 4?
Absolutely! Do I need to see other seasons first? Also, how many is there?
@@kaizammit it isn't necessary but if you want to understand some lore then you can, Season 4 is lore leading into Season 5 but completely up to you! There are 20 season (Introducing new characters each) but I really want you to react to this season in particular!
Gotta get a Gears Of War Ultimate edition cut-scenes 👀
I agree!
I know the story mode will be on point but if they bring in a good horde mode with awesome regular multiplayer this will be the biggest GOW game ever
Sounds exciting for the fan base, I'm excited for you! 💪🏻
@@kaizammit Ya right beside Halo this franchise is near and dear to me
Take a shot every time he says "yeah" =)
Just joking btw, love your vids
Starts at 5:50
The breakdown starts then, not my reaction!!
@@kaizammit lmao, love your vids mate
Thank you for watching! I always do full reactions where I just watch it before I break it down. Look the the white title card Filmmaker Reaction, that's the actual start.
@@kaizammit Im not going to lie I was seeing a lot of shorts show the "good bits" first then going back to the start right before watching your vid, So I clicked ahead and watched your breakdown before the first reaction hahahah 🤣
No way! I hope you still enjoyed the video!? If you skip the intros in future, look for the white splash screen. It's either reaction or breakdown so you'll know where you are in the video.
Could you react to the scenes from the Metroid Prime series and Metroid Dread?
Edit: Could you also react to the Metroid Prime 4 beyond trailer?
I beat the game, and it will look like that or better
XBOX ON🔥
Now the games just have to be good

First
You are and thank you for being so!!
You should react to the soulsborne games, they are really really good and i think you will enjoy them🫶
