China had not made any demands on reunification before - they were perfectly ok with Taiwan being different until Tsai came along, ganged up with western countries to force China's hand. The overwhelming majority of Taiwan's citizens do not want Unification with communist mainland.
So the Taiwanese must be willing to take the necessary steps to be able to defend and deter an invasion.
    1. Increase Defence budget to at least 5% of GDP.
    2. Resume conscription with 2 years full-time tenure.
    3. Women must be welcome to volunteer or also made to serve 2 years like their men.

TBH, this has been the general attitude of Taiwanese for a good 2-3 decades. The "young" people back then said the same things more or less. Then they got older, most change their minds or became pragmatic, only a handful retain that die hard independent farce. However, it's all for nothing since they won't fight for it.
Hardly anyone under 60 has that same fighting spirit and realistic endeavors as those who fled the mainland after the end of the Chinese civil war. That generation, and their children's generation were the last ones who you could count on to actually stand up and fight. But after that, all they've been doing is playing games, trying to drag the US/Japan into their shenanigans and trying to benefit from both sides of the aisle. You cannot take a lot of Taiwanese seriously regarding this topic anymore.
I have no idea if there will be war or whatever scheme the PRC has to retake Taiwan, but I think for those in Taiwan who can still think with reason, they better have some contingency plans NOW in case the forces for reunification become too obvious.

If Taiwan was still an extreme hard liner military dictatorship as it used to be for four decades, I would take no part on the reunification with China issue. It would be like prefering one oppressive authoritarian regime over another. But as it has been a democracy for the last three decades, I support the right of the vast majority of its people to stay independent from China, not as Chinese but as Taiwanese. Taiwan has, ever since the Communist takeover of China by Mao Zedong, been an eyesore for Beijing. This is understandable; Taiwan has not only become a highly developed economy with a sophisticated industrial and manufacturing base, particularly software and electronics, its close ties with the financial world of the West and the success of its democracy are a challenge to China’s world view. Taiwan is an island just like Cuba with a small population of 24 million whereas Cuba has about 12 million. Cuba is a Socialist governed country whereas Taiwan claimed itself as democratically governed. What rubbish idealism of Taiwan's democracy as superior to mainland PRC Socialism system since Cubans and the PRC also have free elections for their leaders and governing system suited to their way of governing system? When it comes to calling out and comparison of Authoritarian rule, it can only be judged by the majority of the people in that country which fully support their Govt. and leaders. That support is the real yardstick of Democratic principles in any governing or selection system adopted.
Now, why is the USA placing sanctions on a freely democratic country like Cuba which has a socialist governing system? Aren't those actions becoming of an Authoritarian leader who crippled the Cuban's economic system and their country, when it knows the island is heavily dependent on the USA for its exports etc? Taiwan is also heavily dependent on mainland China for its economic progress having many cross straits dependency of many goods and services. Did China which many labelled as undemocratic, violaters of Human Rights, authoritarian, dictatorial etc sanctioned Taiwan in any way just like what the USA did to Cuba?
The bigger picture of world geopolitics is outside the grasps of Taiwanese who seeks secession and independence from mainland China and collaborating with foreign powers, hence threatening the sovereignty, stability and harmony of the whole Chinese Nation, it's people and its civilization. And such traitorous collaborations under the twisted and demented common ideologies and dreams of living under democracy, freedom, liberty etc just show how blindsided and deranged some of such traitorous Taiwanese people are, including their current leaders. Do the Taiwanese not question why, especially now in this period, are such tensions heightened and even possibility of leading to wars between China and the USA and their Anglo Saxon allies, which if every Chinese recall their past history, will know is and always when China is rich, rising and prospering to threaten the Anglo Saxon's supremacy, domination and their civilization.
The USA and its Anglo Saxon allies now sees China in this 21st Century as a threat to their Supremacy and domination of the world as well as fears of their civilization downfall. This has happened many times before, in the 20th and early 21st Century when first it was political ideology and wars were fought under the doctrine of "The Cold War" to thwart Communism/Socialism spread and shifted later to Religion leading to the "Clash of Civilizations" ideologue and wars launched under "War on Terror".
The main question Taiwanese should ponder about, in this intentionally perpetrated hope of War, ignited by this Taiwan crisis probably, isn't about political ideologies, religion or economics but whether it is willing to continue to be pawns and traitors to be used by others to once again vanquish the rise of China and it's people which posed a presumed threat to the minds of the Anglo Saxons. And if so, then the lives of 27 million Taiwanese is a small price to pay to safeguard the lives, prosperity and civilization of the rest of the 1.4 billion Chinese into the 21st Century.

Article 26 of the ROC's Constitution specifically states, "all provinces of China including Tibet, Xinjiang and any other provinces are entitled to be represented in the Parliament of the Republic of China." Therefore, by implication Taiwan or the ROC admits to being part of China. Sounds kinda contradictory.....he first says he does not want to reunify with China and wants to maintain Taiwanese' democratic way of life (which is understandable)....then he says he and his friends won't be able to fight due to a lack of military training and do not wish to be engaged in any military conflict (also understandable, after all, who wants to die a violent death). But does he not realize the inherent contradiction? With a China threatening to invade and attack and with a vastly bigger military....how does he expect to have one, if he is not willing to do the other? Taiwanese need to be smarter and more shrewd if they want to carve out more space for themselves internationally...

Chinese people migrated to Taiwan which is a part of China. Taiwanese are Chinese. The Taiwanese territory needs to be returned to China. Taiwan will exist in China, where one country two systems will be practiced. Outside interferences are just looking after their interests, and not the Taiwanese interest.

What does all this have to do with SG foriegn policy ????
China and US are 2 lungs of the world
Can SG live with 1 lung ??
Nothing to do with SG we are too dependant on both powers.
Having said that the past 150 years was an aberration
The west rose to power by colonization imperialism mass genocide and stealing resources from africa india china and others in Asia.
Now the world is going back to how it was in 1800s.
China and india becoming no 1 and 2.
China did all this in less than 40 years.
That is why the entire western machinery is all out to drill into China and destroy it.
Now it's china 50 years later it will be india.
      100 years later it's Africa.
The US will do anything and everything to not have any near peer superpower by ruining it or to even put it down if necessary by starting a war.

China as one of the lung? Don’t over sell it. Next ten years, China economy will face downturn, as stated by one of their economic expert. With aging population and recent financial debt issue, it is going backward in fast pace, just like the “accelerator leader” want it.

3:13 Taiwan's solider not cutting it on the battlefield ... that is the right assessment, as seen in a recent youtube video where taiwan soilders (team of 5) were manning and firing an artillery howitzer ... it took them nearly 9 minutes to reload and fire after firing off their first round, with that much time the chinese would've landed and taken their position. What Taiwan needs to do is send out military observers to USA, UK, Finland, and Israel, to observer their military training and practices and then bring that knowledge back home and train their own soilders.

Taiwanese who cannot accept this must leave Taiwan or be killed.

Rumor is Táiwān is quietly consulting with the US about how to pull off an effective insurgency, straight from those who know the other side of the IED.
