    John thanks for being so detailed with this video and the added checklist. Both have helped immensely to understand the dynamics at play.

      I did put some effort into this one as I pulled the information from lots of different sources to try to make one complete video with nothing missed out. I probably have missed something out even so, but that is what the comments section is for :) YTube is good for some things.....

    Thanks for making this video, I am about to attempt this myself, I keep putting it off but your explanation is the best I have found on TH-cam.

      Yeah I was putting it off too but in the end it had to be done. It isn't too bad so long as you break it down into small steps.

    excellent video, thank you. There are no local people that will work on my 46 Ford banjo rear end. Really appreciate the coaching sir!

      Yes, early on I did email a couple of specialist hot rod shops in the UK and didn't even get a reply - strange way to run a business I would suggest. In the end it was just a simple case of if you want something done, do it your effing self! Quite a good rule to live by I have found.

      Nobody would repair the sill/lower door track on my VW bus a few years ago either. Full vehicle restoration would have been no problem, no doubt with a full social-media build-log but a repair, not lucrative enough to bother with. Again had to just get on with it myself hence the video I made of that, which seems to have helped a lot of people too.

    One extra point, if you put silicone on the gaskets in the final step, it has to be incredibly thin otherwise you make them thicker overall and mess up all the adjustments you have made to get their thickness just right. That is why some have said use a smear of grease instead.

    Setting the CWP meshing always seems tricky to me and even when spending ages trying to get it right I am never sure I have! So far so good with the ones I have done though. I remember on my MGB I checked the drag on the pinion with a small spring balance on the right sized lever. I think you would have to try very hard to get them completely wrong.

      I tend to agree with you. Being able to turn the crown wheel with 'just a slight drag' for example could mean different things to different people. As you say it seems to be more about getting things into about the right ball-park, not stupidly tight or stupid rattly loose.

    What oil are you guys using for these early ford banjos?

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine has no oil in it right now so will be researching this issue too at some point.
