The Eagle's Nest board looks like the Clue board. Now we know who killed Mr. Boddy!

I agree, but I also like being the Germans. I like the teamwork and negotiation to find the sniper.

I feel this expansion missed the mark on many things. Granted, I haven't tried nearly everything it adds, but playing the Karl sniper on Heavy Water was a miserable experience, where I believe the sniper could've won even using his figure on the board :P The added snipers are wildly unbalanced in my opinion with Karl for example in our first game he got an officer on the first turn and got a suppression token in his bag, which meant he was able to draw his whole bag without a misfire and with the amount of spaces between everything it got really miserable for the other team. The sniper had a free kill radius around him until his first objective and with the amount of spaces there is on the map it got really miserable really fast. And thus I think it would've been a close fight even if the sniper just used his figure to move on the map without any hidden information (ignoring the snipe officer). Our sniper had the black and white objectives and completed the first on turn 4 and second on turn 6-7. With the amount of spaces there is we never had any chance of narrowing it down enough, since there was always a multitude of possible spots where he could be and he could freely kill one of our soldiers every turn, which made it literally impossible for us to win.
The first game we played on Launch Facility with only base game stuff was great fun and we loved it, but we all absolutely hated the expansion stuff. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I have seen much praise for the expansion which I just can't agree with after such glaring problems. But, to each their own and we all have our tastes.

Your not the only one mate, I have the same issues with this game. I'm using the bad experience of this boardgame to not listen to this shill again.

Don't forget that the game comes with rules to balance an overpowered sniper or overpowered defenders that you can use next time you have the same setup.

Aweful expansion! I really have to question wether the people like discriminating gamer that rated this expansion highly have actually played it. it is still my biggest boardgaming regret.
Most of this expansion heavily buffs the snipers, most are outright broken they are so overpowered, good luck if you are the hunters on the heavy water map as you don't have a hope in hell, we played multiple games on the heavy water map and it wasn't fun for anyone, sniper could casually stroll undetected and complete objectives in relative peace and harmony or pick a buff sniper and slot hunters from a distance and still remain safe, really needed a new team of hunters to balance it out as it is so sparse that a sniper can easily avoid detection. Karl and Rosa are especially broken on this map.
Some of the snipers literally can't miss or missfire, Karl is the angel of death and literally can't miss or missfire within 4 spaces if he draws 7 tokens and can shoot twice if he doesn't move, he gets a noise token if he is within 2 spaces and gets a kill but that was never an issue for us, just stay back shoot and move.... perfectly fair and balanced indeed!
Roza can't miss within two spaces (with a 5 token draw), can't be detected in combat and can't missfire!.... Again perfectly fair and balanced gameplay!.
The problem with these changes are that in the base game there was a risk/reward chance for combat, you could go in gun ho and start popping hunters but there was always a chance you could be detected and missfire which balanced the game greatly forcing a sniper to be cunning and consider their risks before shooting. It made for the fact that a shooty sniper is often a dead sniper. Throw that out the window in this expansion though no balance to see here.
The Eagles Nest map is ok. Not good but ok! (It makes no thematic sense that a sniper could remain hidden on a 2x3 meter area of lit up marble flooring in a well lit room but that is the least of this games problems)
Heavy Water.... Oh Heavy Water is outright broken it is huge, massively sparse with plenty of exit points for every space, very few choke points and the ones that are there are easily bypassed by rebreather and climbing gear combine that with broken snipes and you are not having a good time as a hunter stumble around sweeping hoping Karl eventually reveals himself after wasting 10 of your squad members.
The expansion adds a few new items all of which are trivial in their effectiveness with the exception of the rebreather and the climbing gear on the heavy water map.
Hunters get nothing new at all which is a wasted opportunity as buffing hunters, with stronger map specific perks may have actually given this game some much needed balance, even a 4th officer or an entirely new additional squad (raising the player cap) could have potentially fixed heavy water
This feels like a shameless cash-grab as it is so bad and broken in comparison to it's predecessor. It adds literally nothing of value to the base game (the base game is an exceptional game btw, possibly as close to perfect as one could get for a hidden movement game, but this expansion proves that lightning doesn't always strike twice)
I would love to know what went wrong in this games development (eg budget constraints, time allocation, or was it a shameless cash grab) as the base game and eagles nest are polar opposites in regards to balance and value. I almost don't wish to sell it as I don't wish to inflict the disappointment on some poor boardge enthusiast, it also serves as a reminder as a lot of board game reviewers probably don't thoroughly play the games that they review, either that or they are afraid of calling out broken games to Devs.
Fallout had atomic bonds to try and attempt to fix it's broken exploits and it exceeded to some extent, this needs something similar to balance things and try to salvage it, it shouldn't be up to gamers to house rule broken games to fix them. This is definitely a broken game!
If I could do over I'd save your money on this poor excuse of an expansion and just play the basegame for hours of fun.
