I bought a used truck and tourque converter was having issues..i noticed it had a jasper reman..i called them and it was still under warranty and sent me a reman allison in 3 days and they are paying for the labor to remove and install...top notch customer service and unbeatable warranty
Jasper, they stand behind their reman engines if something goes wrong.Never been turned down for warranty yet.Plus they do upgrades fixing the factory flaws.LKQ,they take forever to send a check for the core after they pick up the old engine up as a core with the used engines
Awesome to see you again Bundy!! I appreciate you helping me with my Honda Accord when I pretty much rebuilt the motor on my own. Since then the car is doing absolutely amazing. It has no check engine lights and has been running beautifully.
I was one of the number one LKQ/ATK reman sellers for years. I left in 2018 sick of quality issues and the way they treat their employees. I work for Fenix Parts and we are direct distributors for AER, ETE, REVIVA and a couple others. Jasper builds a great product but what we offer is just as high quality. Stay away from any of the parts stores, most sell LKQ/ATK and brand it under private names.
I had to replace a customer's engine with an atk engine. Lasted about 3000 miles and it had an oil leak due to them not performing the last torque procedure and they only paid 50 bucks and hour to replace it again. My customer bought the engine himself so he was on the hook again for almost the full cost of replacement. All due to assembly of the engine and a step was missed.
Just did our first LKQ/ATK reman engine (a Honda 3.5). On arrival, the very first thing we notice was that the timing belt had oil contamination in several spots. And while inspecting the belt, we noticed RTV protruding out of the water pump seal area. The water pump seal is a formed O-ring. As an ASE Master Technician with 40 years of experience, I am well aware that you should never mix an O-ring seal with RTV. I called LKQ and they forwarded me to ATK. I initiated a warranty/labor claim requested a new timing belt (with a replacement for the 1 time use idler bolt), and a water pump gasket with labor to clean RTV from sealing surfaces OR a replacement pump. The warranty claim person said that the O-ring combined WITH RTV was a normal professional choice and we would have to "agree to disagree". The we had to jump through numerous hoops to prove the oil on the timing belt which they finally conceded; however, they declined to pay to replace the 1 time use idler bolt. When I attempted to review the FACTORY procedure (which clearly requires the bolt needs replaced), he simply said that it was not required to remove the bolt and that we would have to "agree to disagree". Up to this point, we have always used JASPERS. When I have had warranty/labor claim issues with Jaspers, they simply correct the problem. The only reason I gave LKQ a try is because Jaspers does not reman the Honda 3.5. LKQ/ATK might have weaseled their way out of doing the right thing (an extra $50 bucks); but I will never again use LKQ/ATK remans again.
Ive been advised to use low mileage factory engines over any reman engine. The tooling and precision from the manufacturer is far greater and more expensive than any rebuild shop. I've been very successful using used factory motors from reputable salvage yards. I may be wrong in believing this theory. It seems parts wear differently based on how they were previously used. They dont interchange into a reman motor nearly as well as what they came out of? Like sometimes having to beat a cam into the block while rebuilding, it measures good and functions correctly, just odd it doesnt slip in as it originally did from the factory.
The problem isnt that aftermarket machine shops arent capable, its if they take shortcuts or their builders dont take proper care with assembly. Theres plenty of aftermarket companies making as good if not better than oe parts on cars, brembo brakes is now standard on certain makes and models of many different manufacturers. You get what you pay for and when it comes to cars and machining work in general, good work aint cheap and cheap work aint good. What your usually banking on with a used junyard motor is the thing wasnt beat to hell. As long as thats the case there are many good engines out there in junkyards thatll run another 100k ontop of the 100-150k they already have on them. Remans and full tear downs and rebuilds are generally best for higher demands needed from the engine or trans and for resto purposes.
The problem with junkyard engines is we don't know the history of the engines. They could be well taken care of and the car was "totaled" due to body damage. They could also have had owners that didn't properly maintain the engines or that drove them hard. We have no way of telling their histories so it's a gamble. Theoretically, remanufactured engines should be of good quality but when reading reviews of these two manufacturers, I see a lot of contrasting opinions related to their quality and warranty returns. That being said, I just gave the go ahead to install a remanufactured engine in my car. We'll see if I regret that decision. EDIT: I just had an ATK 3.0L crate engine put in my 2001 Solara. It shipped with the wrong oil pump (power steering pump mounted on a stud on the oil pump and the engine didn't have that feature). Additionally, after the ATK engine was installed, the main bearing leaked and necessitated removal of the transmission to repair. ATK didn't stand behind their warranty. Also, a month later, no core charge refund from them yet.
Dude was grinding on a camshaft ! No camshaft should be reused in any rebuilt engine... That goes for pistons, rings, lifters, timing gears and chains and oil pumps also !

I have had a really bad experience with LKQ on two occasions, not with the used junkyard parts, but with price gouging and false advertising at the junkyard, they charge a totally different price than what they have listed online and on top of that when they have their holiday 40% sales on everything when you get to the window they will tell you something like oh that's for tires only. But their ad says everything 40% off and they charge you a higher price than what is listed Now, mind you, I've been going to Lkq for over 40 years, give or take when I was in my 20s. I'm 61 years old now, and I have never had this problem before until now at one location in Sun Valley, CALIFORNIA. I've been even receiving notifications of vehicles that I have been interested in saying new arrival of that particular vehicle went there all day and never caught site of the vehicle notified about stay away from that Lkq location they'll rip you off

I heard Jasper has a lot of bad engines though they don't last long they should have used genuine Ford timing components and Ford piston and crankshafts to make them last past 90k miles. Jasper engines is like buying a century arms vska AK it's a ticking time bomb.
Ahhh the typical “ I heard” comment, now every time someone’s started off with that usually means they really didn’t hear anything, they just felt like chiming in their 2cents. Lmao
Cant speak on Jasper quality but I can tell you to avoid LKQ. You can read about how great they are on there website with warranty & quality but as far as I'm concerned its purely marketing. I just purchased an engine with 35K miles for a Ford. Wasn't too impressed when I received it, looked a bit sloppy handling but I assumed from transportation. Had a licensed shop install the motor & as soon as they fired it up it was loosing coolant within first 5 minutes. Turns out blown head gasket. No worries...they have they fantastic warranty right? Wrong, filed claim & received my updates from my mechanic instead of LKQ. The failure was so bad that they sent a new engine, put the responsibility on me to take care of the old engine, & offered nothing for the labor I now have to pay for their poor quality. The ONLY response I got from LKQ was that their warranty does not cover labor, like a broken record . Wouldn't even let me speak to a CS supervisor for an explanation. Is there any industry where you purchase something with such specific installation requirements with the expectation that they can forward on poor quality to you at your expense? BTW, the mechanic I used has made a few purchases from LKQ in past. He didn't throw them under the bus too bad but agreed their handling of this is unbelievable & also told me that he had received a bad engine for another client just in previous weeks. So now this engine has cost me almost 4500, 75% of the the cars value. NO LKQ - No quality, zero customer experience & the fact they can't back the product they ship tells me even the management has little confidence in what their team puts out door.
ATK has the market cornered which is unfortunate because they build crap. As a shop owner i gave up on them and Jasper is barely any better lets be real guys you know this...this video is a commercial.

Who LKQ? So does Jasper. This company left us stranded 800 miles from home. Our Jasper replacement engine exploded due to a catastrophic engine failure in a motor home, with less than 8,000 miles on it. All service had been done, and Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil was used. Jasper refused to replace the engine, and refused to even examine it to determine the cause of failure. I'm now forced to mortgage my home for a $16,000 engine replacement. Update: The engine installer that replaced the Jasper engine, stated that the failure was not MY fault, but that of Jasper, as the crankshaft had broken. Look at reviews on BBB and Yelp.
