    As an England fan, I maybe in the minority here, but I am so so so disappointed Eddie Jones never got to play around with a backline with Sam Burgess in it. I think the England side would have been really interesting with him still there

      The best centre partnership in recent memory is Burgess & Slade in the warm-up game to RWC2015. Looked absolutely deadly. Never tried again.

      Sam burgess, the man who helped England never reach the knock out stage of a world Cup because he didn't have a clue what he was doing in the centres, but was there anyway to sell some merchandise?
      The same Sam burgess who played flanker at Bath because he couldn't be a centre in the English prem.
      The same Sam burgess who went flying back to Australia the first chance he got.
      You've been licking toads again, haven't you 😂

    Great video. Really interesting to have seen Tom Youngs as a winger. Thought he had a great transition to hooker. Never the best thrower but fantastic tackler and bowling ball of a forward

    Completely forgot about Lloyd Williams at 10 - seeing our two 10s go off so early on only for Lloyd to put in that performance was immense! Would love a vid just dedicated to that performance

    I’ll stand by it, Sam Burgess was a legitimately very good Flanker, a lot better than at centre. England were just obsessed at trying to make him a centre

      It was dreadful how he was thrown under the bus for their failings at the World Cup. But typical of the English establishment to blame the working class northerner who'd only been playing the sport for a few months and was playing out of position. A year earlier he walked away from League as an all-time great after a quite staggering man of the match performance in the NRL Grand Final after fracturing his cheekbone and eye socket in the first 15 seconds of the game. He could have been just as great in Union but for some terrible mismanagement by club, country and the RFU.

    I seem to remember Dan Cole playing flanker once. Maybe I am making that up? Gabriel Oghre for Wasps often alternates between hooker and flanker as did Ashley Johnson

  • @vonteflon
    @vonteflon ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wing to scrumhalf and vice versa seems a popular switch. Flanker and hooker too.
    9 and 10 ought to be able to play each other’s roles in my opinion.
    I’ve felt for a long time that flanker (particularly openside) and centre (particularly inside) play very similar roles in open play. In fact I play both quite regularly myself (albeit at a low level). So the Sam Burgess experiment I think was actually quite reasonable. Could’ve been amazing if they’d stuck with it instead of outrageously scapegoating him.

      @joeleadie6035 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      he was a winger as a youngster then moved to centre and i believe when he was at the tigers academy he transitioned to hooker as he had a better chance of making it into the team in that position. i think that’s right i could be wrong but there is a video about his rugby journey
