As a kid in 1967, saw a '66 Chevelle 396 for the first time. We were traveling in a '67 Galaxy 500 and stuck in a long line on a 2 lane Hwy. A 4-speed 396 passed us and many others one at a time. I knew it was a 4-speed because I watched the guy shift from 3rd to 4th as he went by. I still remember my Dad saying, that's what I need. Have wanted one ever since. If I find the right one, it will become reality. Thanks for the video.
Ok now I'm convinced somewhere in back you have a factory producing BADASS MUSCLE CARS! THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO OWN AN AWESOME PIECE OF HISTORY
I believe that the same color as the color of the strips on the 69 Trans Am. Chevy called it Marina Blue and Pontiac called Tyrol Blue. One the most common colors back in the day. Use to have a 66' Impala that color, we called her drive-in discount. It could fit 3 good sized guys in the truck with a few cases of beer with ease for sneaking in the drive-in.
Great video if shift bushings are not worn you probably got synchronizers going out will need the box gone threw but with the low reared gear I’d swap it for a updated 5 or 6 speed trans get full use off all that power make it easier drive on highway.✌🏿😊
Bad ass SS chevelle, my grandpa still has 66 SS when he bought it from the showroom floor it was a dark blue with black interior with the 396 big block he bought it at a dealership locally in Riverside Ca. De anza Chevrolet. But im a new subscriber love all the videos much love from So. Cal Corona Ca.
@@MapleMotorsNickSouthgate BBC mark up, that's one of the better reason to consider a Pontiac. Even the boat anchor BBC cars fetch top dollar, I get but it's gotten kind of crazy. In 91' I sold my '70 Nova SS, original 396/350hp car for ~10k, perfect body fresh Hugger orange with black vinyl top 4 spd. That was a fair price back then, a solid lifter BBC in Chevelle or Camaro would go for about twice that.
Back in 1980, my friend and I raced a '66 Chevy Malibu in the "streetstock" (armature) class at our local dirt oval (The Proctor Speedway)! It was a "327" with 3-speed (NEVER got above "second gear", was FUN!) None of the '66 Malibu's were ACTUALLY WORTH over $4,200, though!
The grinding shifting going into 3rd and 4 th gear could be that the shifter linkage needs to be adjusted. I had a 1970 Chevelle SS and I put a Hurst shifter in it and I had a hard time getting it adjusted where the transmission wouldn’t grind but when I finally got it it shifted great and the shift pattern was close and smooth. It looks like the shifter boot is missing in your Chevelle. Your car looks sweet. I had a 1966 Chevelle back in 2009 then I made the mistake of selling it in 2012 I needed a new truck and couldn’t afford one unless I sold my Chevelle. Maybe one day I can get me another hot rod I’ve had about a half a dozen so far in my life and I’ll be 67 years old this April.
Now THIS is a beautiful Chevelle...love this year. Sucks about 3rd and 4th...but I'm no mechanic..maybe an easy fix. Something about the exhaust notes of this car I absolutely love. You've had several with this same rumble...sounds killer. Don't know what set up get these notes but...sounds awesome. Great car Nick. Oh, and the opening music is badass btw.
IMO thats this and the 67 GTO are the best looking of all the square muscle cars look good from any angle. The 66' Chevelle still retains the early 60's grill queues shame they went to a bar speedo. The BBC is more impressive to look but the 400 HO, a RA III without the functional scope is good for low 14's high 13's completely stock and doesn't get the big block or RA mark up. Because the 400 makes it's money with torque, they are more forgiving when launch vs a BBC.
If the horn works you win an AMC Pacer that comes with a guarantee that you won’t ever have to worry about hot beautiful, sexy, women pestering you all the time. Lmao.
What was the Horsepower?? -Standard was 325 HP, or you could order 360 HP. Also their should of been a Tachometer. under the Dash by driver Right Leg . I had a 1966 Chevelle 396 -325 . And I had a Tachometer and all Gauges.
My 2nd most favorite Chevelle, it'll sale quick . Doesn't sound like it has the M20 or M21 that it should have, couple grand would fix that, how about $38k ?

You missed the left brake light not working. Lol, I like that this dealer seems upfront about issues. These are 50+ year old cars, not a 2021 Vette.
Amazing transformation of that “project” Chevelle.
yep the other one just took it's mask off lol

Sweet! SS CHEVELLE! Drivers brake light is out.. love the car!
This is my favorite chevelle body. My dad's friend had a 67 ss when I was a kid.
My uncle had a 66. The one in the video before this that has no paint, looks very very similar. I asked where it originally came from.
wow a true 66 SS Chevelle , love that 396 sound !!!!!
My first car in 1984 $1,000 dam should have keep it!
We all have a story like that😢

Check the transmission's fluid. Could be low and hot.
Add some Lucus auto trans fix to that transmission, it may stop that gear grinding :-). Yes it fixes manual trans too.
