I have a K, i already know what to do with it: Build the in-game money and reputation with the military to upgrade to an M and then go fight the Vanduul!
Well from the latest Idris Boarding testing it took 40 fighters about 20+ mins to disable which means once its released i think itll be a force to be reckoned with
We took it out with one hammerhead last year. The second time we tried we got one shot by the railgun and the third time we took it out again. Took maybe 10 to 20 minutes at the most. We were smart though we used our speed and our surrounding as an advantage. We were not dumb and let it just shoot us to death by standing still.
I just can't see the crew requirements on these ships as realistic. I've been playing MMO's for decades. The likelihood of you being about to get 20-30 players to all log on reliably just to pilot and use a single ship effectively is ridiculously low. Not to mention a significant number of those 20-30 players are going to have their own ships they want to use, not just sit on yours waiting to fix something or man a turret for a few minutes.
That’s said they’ve also said that you can have blades, NPC crew and even solo these big ships, but with obviously each of the solutions will make it less powerful than a full crew. So yes, agreed, that many people are unlikely, but you don’t need it, it will just make it better.
I think you and I have had different experiences with MMO's. I have always been able to find 20 or 30 people to play with reliably. At the same time I understand your point. Games should be realistic about their number or players. I think what makes Star citizen unique is that it invites the whole range of players from solo to 90 friend org. The player can run an idris with 10 AI blades, 5 npc's and 4 friends and still have fun. Let's remember why we all play. It's not necessarily to be the best 24/7 or the most efficient. It is to have fun playing. I believe anyone who gets an Idris will have fun whether they have 1 friend or 20.
IMO Capital ships will be only used in Org. to Org. battles or planned events by CIG. Since the crew sizes and cost to maintain are so large. The sweet spot that I have looked for is 2 - 6 crew, with long range capability, but can also be soloed with a couple blades and or RL/NPC crew. The examples would be a Spirit C1/A1, Drake Corsair, 400i, MSR, RSI Connie/Zeus, C2/M2/A2 Caterpillar, Galaxy, Carrack and Perseus. I did not include all types of ships in this category, there is to many to list, but you get the idea. In this way a few friends can crew, but you have other options to choose from and running cost/repair will be much lower.
I think it works in CIG favor to have PVE missions for cap ships. Because of that I think there will be tons of gameplay applications for Cap ships outside of org to org battles. I think some folks will specifically seek to grab an NPC crew and captain the heck out of them in ways they would never do with friends.
I'm looking forward to having a chance to be part of an Idris crew but have no desire to own one myself. Too much money, too much organizing enough people to operate it. It should be great to see in action with SQ42 though.
I have Polaris and Idris both coming.... they's going to be it for my military capital ships... there rest are my 890, Banu Merchantman, MISC Odyssey and Carrack.
I really want an idris but no matter how I try to fudge the math I just don't need one. Polaris is the biggest cap combat ship I need. I am going to get myself an A2 though to keep me warm at night. A Consolation prize! We have a lot of the same ships!
@@billionaireninjas yeah, for me this game is as much about collecting useless ships that are just "cool" as it is about actual game play... and I'm fortunate to have the spare funds.

My Idris P/K is going to be home away from home. I got it because it will provide the long distance transport for the group and while in transit everyone can use the facilities on board. I think the gun range in particular is a good thing for people who want something to do while on long trips. Then there is the hanger. This is a key thing because my friends will want to bring some of their own ships and this allows them to. Totally looking forward to using this. It is going to be so cool. PS: this is going to needs both AI crew and AI blades so I am watching their development closely.
Same here! Except I don't own one yet. I'm saving it for an earn-in game. I know so many people with an Idris that I can't see a need to spend real money for it right now.
As a solo player I would rate the Idris as a 3. It is a great ship, but I do not think I will ever get a large enough crew together to man it correctly and it would be a hangar queen.
Considering both the ship, AI blades, and NPC crew aren't in game yet I couldn't go as low as a three. I think there is going to be a reckoning. That reckoning will be that AI blades and NPC grew are wayyyy more useful than people thought they would be... And people will want bigger ships but those prices will have already gone up.
I think what a lot of people don't realize just how hard its going to be to actually kill one of these once we have armor and damage working properly. Between the pretty massive amount of cargo, the hangar which we'll be able to stuff any number of ships into, the full medical bay, and all the guns - it really is going to be a great do everything ship so long as you have the people for it. I plan on using my K along with my org for everything from big combat missions to long range trade runs of super valuable/dangerous cargo.
Agreed! I don’t think there is enough “hype” for the K kit. I know it’ll be “less powerful” than the M, but there’s a few points people miss. First the auto turrets reduce crew by 4. Second, the missiles give the ship a much better fighter defence and the size 10 laser, especially if a “constant beam” weapon will be cooler, and even if not will be cheaper to run as there’s no ammo cost.
@@charliemcawesome5012 A full laser fit Idris-K is going to be able to operate way out for a looooong time. I do still want to earn the railgun in-game and screw around with that on my K though
Will be good to see it in action once it is properly released, but it was good to hear what it could be used for. And also good to hear your honest opinion in comparisons to other ships and if it is worth it or not, just like your hammerhead video.
The K is often misunderstood and it is here as well. Its not a set upgrade. Its a bunch of stuff that can be mixed and matched on the P and M variant. So you can decide to put the spinal laser on the P but leave everything else as is or put missile turrets on the M but keep the railgun. Its like instead of buying a connie aquila to get a scanning turret you just put the scanner on your andromeda for example.
Some old outdated information that I can't remember where I heard, so it may be BS or just no longer the case, but I heard M has more armor but slower than the P, P will be faster but less armor, and the K has its s10 beam weapon, but in order to use it you will need to reduce your shields some to get enough energy to fire it. Also you will be able to upgrade a P to an M in game if you have the right reputation with the UEE. This is all up in the air, could be wrong info or no longer the case.
Idris has always been sold to carry 3 medium fighters since its inception before it even became a frigate. In fact they said it carries 3 medium fighters in its hanger with one in researve. Think that 4th one was taken out, and it can only have 3 at the most there is no 4th one in researve anymore.
The reason for the P and the K to have the same amount of cargo, it is because they do not have the railgun mounted on the bottom of the ship. The K has an energy weapon but it does not take the space away from the railgun. Now. All the cargo space will be dedicated to ordinance, equipment, supplies. The P can be more of a cargo ship with part of the SCUs dedicated supplies and another to cargo. This ships will have a huge investment to keep them operational with a crew in between 20 and 40 people. I think 80 as in SQ42 is overkill
