    Its really unfortunate, Maria Grazia is a good designer....she designs beautiful clothes that people want to wear. The problem is, she doesn't design Christian Dior caliber clothing. I am the first person to champion a new face for an old house, but the new face has to elevate the brand. Maria has done nothing but dilute Dior with commercial consumerism. Is there anything wrong with these clothes? No. But there's nothing right with them either. Dior should be aspirational, not just passable. Under Galliano and Simons....the pieces weren't always couture-worthy, but by their hand they made them LOOK couture. The fit was always impeccable and yet some of these clothes hang off the girls as if they weren't made for them. Will these clothes sell? Probably like hot cakes, but that's hardly a measure for artistry....something Christian Dior once excelled at.

      Not at all what I would expect too see from Dior. This line doesn’t fit the brand at all. This is something I would expect to see from a few younger brand still trying to rope in their core market. It lacks the sophistication and style you’d expect to see from a brand of this stature.

      I agree, they are never like Big Dior used to be.
      but when we look around the world's new brand designer's bristle, ain't Maria hardly keeping the Dior tradition in colors and patterns ?
      She looks (to me) adding Paris elegance for v.westwood or m.howell in 90s

    The brand is moving into the sector where the most growth will come from for the next 10-15 years - the Instagram generation. And as with social media, relatability is key to reaching your targeting audience. Bygone is the era when trends and creativity trickles down from the runway, nowadays it's what the influencers tweet and feed their followers. If a pseudo celeb wearing a Dior denim bra can get 5 followers going into a store to get a keychain, Dior has won already. This industry has always been about the business. We are just at different times and brands are more brutally honest about it.

    • @emorysumi
      @emorysumi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That being said I still don't quite like Chiuri's work. IMO political statement like feminism should be worked into the clothes themselves, not the branding. The reason why Celine under Philo is so successful is because her clothes (esp coats) are powerful like armors while having the softest touch so women could embrace their femininity.

    • @stanbalo
      @stanbalo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The instagram generation i must say is the most gullible And Not The Most Informed type Even If They Have Access To Evrything In A Touch of A Button. If some influencer tried eating poop im sure many will follow. It is at that degree of Stupidity And Adulation. The whole marketing strategy for these brands are still the same Like Before But Now With More Channels. But The young buying Public Is Really not informed. To them these brands high and low are all the same..sell products and nothing else. The more expensive ones..to show off their status. They have no care for the heritage etc. They hate anything from the past. With this, the designers are dumbing down to appeal to these zombies. On a side note, i went to hk recently and scouted all the shops and it is so evident that the products are becoming homogenous..same designs on all brands. I know this Is Nothing New But It Is Just More Evident Now. The Brands Are Forced To Come Up With Such Design Even If It Does Not Go With Their Brand Aesthetic. iT is sad actually

    • @emorysumi
      @emorysumi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't even find ONE word in your comment that I would disagree with. It's so true that they are dumbing down their aesthetic, and it is sad that the psyche of the brand is not aspirational anymore.

    The bosses at Dior and LVMH don't care about the artistic integrity or value of a designer's work as long as it sells, and sales at Dior have been growing rapidly for the past 6 years for RTW andddd accessories. So as long as this shit sells she's not going anywhere, sad.

    • @chrszghi
      @chrszghi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Human Cobras Awe that’s cute. I mean if you want to believe that sales directly translate to good design then you can. But the truth is Maria Grazia is an unbearably unoriginal designer who recycles mediocre concepts that lack any and all creativity. The house of Dior is a house of fashion innovation, not fast fashion regurgitation. If she wanted to flush the essence of Dior down the drain, she should have just opened her own fashion house and not taken on the job at Dior. I’m pretty sure with easily sellable mediocre pantsuits, she’d have no problem selling her designs under her own name. Since it seems that her clients are purchasing more for the sake of carrying around a label then carrying around fashion. I imagine you fall into that category perfectly. Since profit generation seems to be your greatest concern and not the fact that a French couture house that changed the way women dressed has been reduced to a profit making machine hell bent on spewing out Topshop x Lauren Ralph Lauren imitation garments.

      Watching one of the most remarkable fashion houses in the world; a house that single-handedly reshaped the way women dressed and remained an innovative house for decades after, fall into the hands of the fast fashion engine is a failure in every sense of the word. Sure their sales are up in the teens now, but what joy does it bring the fashion world when your sales are driven by clothing that is so lacklustre, that stores like Forever 21 and Zara have already pumped clothing like this out months ago?

    Personally, I loved this collection, because we have to see Maria Grazia handled the concepts of youth in the late 60's, combining them with the Dior codes. But there are many melancholic fools, who still complain because John Galliano is no longer there. I don't know if people who comment here are "fashionistas" who have only seen fashion since 2010's, but if they don't, they have a very bad memory. John Galliano is and will be a genius forever, we can not doubt about that, but his collections created from 1999 to 2006, always lacked meaning, and these didn't refer to Dior's history. He was always criticized for creating collections difficult to assimilate, and quite far from the original Dior codes and comments were sometimes divided, stoning his job. Always helped sales, as the brand's turnover grew exponentially during the 15 years that John Galliano was there. It's the same damn polemic with Alessandro Michele in Gucci, or voices of uncontrollability demanding Karl Lagerfeld to leave Chanel, because "always he are doing the same shit every season" or "making a second hand trashy fashion".
    The issue that matters, beyond artistic concepts, is money. And Maria Grazia has profited a lot to Dior, as her predecessors did it. If you miss Galliano very much, he is creating fabulous collections for Maison Margiela. Please, go see him there. It's time to accept that the cycles start, but also have an end, and Maria Grazia Chiuri's is beginning now, and this will probably continue as long as her artistic sharpness and business determine it.

      I agree with you, I must admit I was divastated when Raf quit but she’s doing a ok job I just wish she brought new energy to the house I feel as tho the only thing that’s keeping me doing reviews on her collections is that is because of the name “Dior”. I feel like Dior is becoming irrelevant Like McQueen house has literally every review of this collection is bad that says a lot tho

    • @HTOBONS86
      @HTOBONS86 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your comment. In addition, the damn problem is that many people still idealizing Christian Dior solely and exclusively with "New Look". This is fine, yes, so this is true, that it's obligatory and sacredly necessary, but Monseiur Dior doesn't only dedicate his creativity to designing tight silhouettes of wide skirts, flowered dresses and pastel colors. Of course not, he also opted for more austere and more minimalist creations, with few adornments with elegant and functional cuts. That's we've seen from Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior. Obviously she could do it better, but she is not doing it wrong.

      learn to spell first of all. also you cannot put dior, galliano, and chanel in the same boat. Very different from each other. I am sure the original Dior (who was NOT at the helm for very long before his death) didn't inspire you. Michael Kors is shit and this is far from it. Get over it and get laid queen.

    I laugh to read your comments. this collection is cool, for young women. When it was Galliano, dior sold parfums and bags. With Maria Grazia sells clothers. Because people don't live in a fashion week, but in the real life. And real life need clothers wearables. Do you go at 5PM across the city in Balmain? Or with oldest Galliano creation? Please stop. Every season the same music. Brig back Galliano. Please stop.

    • @Terrycupidboy
      @Terrycupidboy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      This collection is fine, but most of the major designers in the industry can handle this kind of style.
      It's right as you said, with Maria the clothes are sold better, but I bet these people buy the clothes just for the name of Dior. I mean, It's like you wouldn't choose a fast fashion brand over Dior if their clothes look almost the same.
      I don't ask for Galliano back, and I accept the departure of Raf Simons. BUT...Dior by Galliano gave the world glamour and imagination. Dior by Raf Simons came with contemporary avant-garde. And this? I'm so confused.
      Why not appoint Kris Van Assche as creative director of both men's and women's line? That would be very interesting to see.

      I've never seen someone wearing couture to go to the supermarket so your point is invalid since Galliano's over the top ready to wear collections were obviously exagerated for the runway, they were sold as more wearable versions, it's obvious that his clothes didn't sell that well cause people loved to watch but not to buy so much since fashion risk taking wasn't such a big thing 10 years ago when Galliano gave his most extravagant collections cause since spring 2007 his rtw collections started to look very, very wearable.

It's not you guys fault, either. The crap does look like Zara and Topshop, no way around it. Same opening model, for every show, whether RTW or couture, and she does nothing for my blood pressure. And this whole pretending that Dior was never about elegance and beauty. What is the feminist tie in to Dior all about? There has to be more to the story than some Chick from Valentino came to Dior, and stopped making shit, elegant, and instead decided to make Zara'ish clothes with words....on the actual clothing? This is some old Cloverfield Paradox bullcrap. I am so mad with Dior and Lmvh.

    To be honest this is actually an alright collection. It has a lot of good designs and don't come off as ugly like other luxury fashion houses. Over houses try to create trends like the oversized clothes, platforms, etc. Which no one is following. She stuck to a basic collection that would appeal to younger people and not come off as ugly. These are clothes that people would actually like because most people who are clothes shopping are younger and this is the type of stuff they want because honestly most fashion houses right now are making ugly clothes and this is alright. I don't see a problem with this collection.

  • @onedayish

    I feel like Maria is channelling the same girl/woman of early Rodarte, Simone Rocha and even Molly Goddard. The lead character from Ladybird comes to mind when I see her work. She presents "girlyness" which is much harder with the combination of military, menswear tailoring references, less sexy of Galliano. For an AW collection, there is a lightness with all the tulle and t-shirts - recurrent items as they probably are her bestsellers. I think the panel is a bit nostalgic to think that a mass brand like Dior would be at the forefront of new fashion. The idea of going to a luxury brand to wear something counter cultural is naive. The bar suit was made decades ago and it actually weighs a tonne! Even current Comme dresses are incredibly heavy in weight. Not sure how modern it is to wear something that literally restricts movement! Its interesting that Maria is not showing any gowns and her embroideries (which often adds a lot of weight to the garment) always look light. However literal Maria's references are (60s student riots) I do think she is drawing parallels to the current political instabilities in the world and bringing this to a mainstream audience which is a good thing! Whether we expect her models/customers to picket and protest beyond the runway/store is another story. With this trend of hiring accessories designers to do RTW/couture collections, it seems like we are moving away from the traditional role of a fashion designer to a product developer/image maker, excited to see where things go next!

    I think Maria could have great success if she launched her own brand more tailored to her clearly teenage audience and their pricepoint. But for Dior, she’s damaging the brand. She is designing for a house, and clearly she has done zero research as to what Dior stands for and the history behind it before she signs on. It is her job to carry on Dior’s legacy, not tarnish it. Even the quality of the fabric just looks cheap and nasty. Raf come back!

    I wish Maria Grazia would stop trying to make clothes that sell and instead make clothes that inspire. I think it was John Galliano that once said that his job as a designer was to "make people dream". These clothes are clearly designed to make money, nothing more. The feminism, the patchwork, the berets, it's all a scam.
