The more you complicate things, the more things that can fail.
Simple is best. Especially when simple worked.

If you want to add more features in the same or smaller footprint, you're going to have to complicate things. The simpler a system is, the less it (usually) does. The most functionality at the least cost will always win out with consumers over repairability.

Wish mine was that easy lol simple reset all working. Had one same model about 3 month ago same problem done reset worked for second or two then went in to protect. Had a look at the connectors opposite the power supply found all sorts of voltages feeding different chips and boards if you look at the service manual its all there. After testing found I believe it was 3.3v line that comes on then fades out then protect comes in, on test at power supply board found few faults first had to replace electros half were shot so all had to go second tested some smd caps found 2 shot as well and last but not least one smd transistor was faulty as well. replaced all working friend happy. what was surprising to me that all this has failed in such a short time and yes I agree with you it is a crap unit have few old Yamaha units beautiful gear but this its beyond a joke lol but that what consumer wants today. Anyway greetings from Australia stay safe and thanks for your videos and dont hold back on your comments say it as it is lol stay safe cheers.

Yes this could have been the same if there had been a fault that caused it. One I rset it fired up so was lucky. Glitchy power most likely.

      Nice recovery.!
Late last year I had a similar situation with 3 police radios. Encrypted, so more a computer with antenna, than analog audio device.

On these Yamahas, I've found that the voltage regulators open.

I had a couple of Pioneer receivers from the early 90s that constantly had to be reset because they'd get in weird states just to their flakiness. On those there was a small hole in the front that you could stick something in to reset it. I have also restored some other pieces of equipment that would not power up, if they have a 120/240 V switch on them, with the unit unplugged, put the switch to the 240 position and back to 120 and plug it back in and try it. I resurrected a dead Audio-Technica LP120 turntable that way and also a desktop computer I used to have that would refuse to power on sometimes.

The heat signatute on that main ic lookedl as iff it grew from a pinpoint suggesting a short chip. But video through video can be deceiving. Good stuff

Good for you...Lucky Lucky Lucky! 🙂 I fixed quite a few of the latter versions of RCA TV's Like That too. CTC 177 CTC187 like that . Besides soldering the on board tuner area causing vert shrinking and the EEPROMS to get corrupted RCA had many secret hacks that would fix problems not in the service manual. Thompson really messed the name up when they took them over. Calling from the road and getting through was sometimes a real nightmare. Again Yay for you! Fixed It.

Ah yes the old rca corrupt eeprom. Used to walk into competition shop and walk to display and quietly walk past the rca sets and use the 2 buttons to enter setup. Then pick up a remote and hold the vol down and turn the horizontal frequency down till they all shut off. Bam 10 dead sets. They all had to go in for service to have reprom reprogrammed with chip quick

@@12voltvids Oh No! So you're the guy LOL If I would have caught you I would have made you install a new chip and then enter in all the values needed to align the tuner You would have been there all day on #100 101 V=_______-- : Diabolical 🙂 Chipper Check never worked anyway . It just blew things up and bricked the sets the first year it came out. GARBAGE Radio Crap of America( A French Company)

Yup I was that guy would go into future shop and Krazy Krazy One of us would walk up the line of TV's and hit the magic 2 buttons that entered service mode and then quickly exit store while the other 1 would pick up the remote and just hit the I think was the volume down 1 of the buttons until all the TV turned off and then leave and then we are usually we watching from another department as all the sales people went over and they're trying to GET these R CATV to turn on and they're like all of them are off every single one We'd usually go over to another department so we could watch the mayhem that unfolded and that's on RCA having sets that did live updates was dumb period you could do the same with the Sony with the display 5 volume down power combination And run the horizontal oscillator too low which would cause the high voltage to spike and trigger the X-ray shut down but at least on the Sony all you had to do is turn it back on because unless you hit mute followed by enter the data wasn't written and if the set shut down you couldn't rate the data but RCA with their live update if you got that horizontal frequency far enough off that the high voltage went up the set would shut down and there's no getting it back you had to replace the Eeprom or at least load up chipquik clip the test clip on it and reset the horizontal frequency to a range that would allow the set to start. These 2 shops were the ones that used to advertise stuff that they had no intention of selling at below cost just to get people in the door and then switch them to something else a practice known as bait and switch. All the independent vehicles hated them because it dragged customers away that we could have sold stuff too to sell them even more expensive stuff because they went in thinking they were going to get a deal and then it's not walking out with a piece of junk that cost them even more. But you're right those Thompson TV's were just an absolute disaster we stopped selling RCA when those sets came out when they all started of hours with those tuner ground problems and the corrupted Eeprom. We gave RCA the boot And brought in JBC to replace them which weren't much better And brought in JBC to replace them which weren't much better.

@@12voltvids Did you ever have the ecstatic pleasure of changing the cooling fluid in the Magnavox Projection sets? The Red never needed it but the other grew algae or something. It was a tedious job but, on the bright side brought really nice money tips. American appliance sold so many of these that I used to dread getting my route in the morning. Another beast was the Garbage digital Zenith Tv's with the infamous 800 module in them Yikes!. One thing I'm really glad is GONE was doing convergence on these dogs after replacing a tube. Well, it put food on the table, but I can't say I miss doing 8- service calls a day for 5 days a week .for like 18 years. Thanks Dave for the Videos.
