      Document layout and setup!! Do you have a handful of different ones you use for certain project/design. Example: SVG for circuit you set your document is almost always 15x15” 300 DPI transparent background cmky print settings. Stickers are always 8”x11” transparent or white background DPI 400 and cmky print settings.

      How to make Svg’s in affinity where you import png elements that you want only part of the image to be on the shape and you also need a defined outline of the shape so on the laser what’s in the shape is engraved and what’s the shape is cut out? I think you need a line to close off the images on the shape and also a line around the shape to define a cut?!??

    Thanks Tanya. I've been using Affinity for a couple of months for digital prints and feel ready now to branch out into SVGs. This video is really helpful and I'm off to checkout your others. I found the building the heart step really interesting, but there is a heart tool in Affinity under the shapes menu under the rectangle tool! You probably found it by now LOL! Like Brandy, I didn't completely follow why you did all the intersecting etc. but I'll watch some of your other vids and hopefully all will become clear. I don't own a cutting machine, so I can't do the trial and error bit :) Thanks again.

    • @ShootingStarSVG
      @ShootingStarSVG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did know the tool was there but I sometimes like to go a little above and beyond ha! For cutting machines you want to ensure each color is separate if that it what you're referring to. Makes it easy for the end user to set up their project to cut. If you have specific questions feel free to reach out here or on the FB group.

    There is a heart shape tool in the tool box shapes drop down menu.

      Great Question. You can design directly on iPad with Illustrator or Affinity Designer which are vector based programs. Illustrator can be steep for the monthly fees but Affinity Designer is a one and done payment. Both are great. Unfortunately with Procreate I do recommend a converter that is PC based (like using Inkscape to convert to SVG) as that is what I am used to. I'll do some research and see what else I can find

    Thanks so much for this video. I do still have trouble with the intersecting / subtracting portion of design. Some things seem to be finicky and don't subtract correctly. Same with some fonts won't compound without distorting them and cutting portions of the font off. I have been a graphic designer for many many years, but always got by with just photoshop. Thank you so much. Fonts can be tricky. I know Font Bundles has a lot of great cut friendly fonts. You just have to be careful with super intricate fonts or they will be hard to cut on the machine with the fine details. Try cleaning up nodes and making sure the shapes lie over each other appropriately. It takes some time to master but just keep grinding you will get it!

    • @shaktijo
      @shaktijo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well , you didn’t make the clip art heart, so you can’t sell it as your own. That would be stealing, I’m sure most clip art files even if they come with a commercial licence state that you cannot sell the clip art as a file, as that would then be in competition with the original clip arts owner.

    • @ShootingStarSVG
      @ShootingStarSVG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The only problem is I am trying to add a rounded rectangle to the center of the outline but I cannot figure out how to create a compound or attach the outline of the bow with the rounded rectangle. I would create the bow "sides" and the middle shape (rectangle or ellipse or whatever) and then create a duplicate of those three shapes. Add the stroke to the duplicates. Remove the fill. Stroke to path on your outlines and compound them together. Should work. I'll create a quick video on this and post this week.

I don't have cricut or any of that but I'm an artist and would like to turn some of my designs into SVGs to sell. If I draw actual vectors using the brush tool in Aff, do I basically just have to make sure that each color is in a separate group so that Cricut or Silhouette can read the file correctly? I keep watching the videos and confusing myself more, so just thought I would ask. Thanks for your help!

    • @ShootingStarSVG
      @ShootingStarSVG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Sarah. First off no question is ever dumb! Silhouette and cricut will read any SVG file just fine (though free edition of silhouette only reads DXF not SVG)
      Regardless you can download cricit design space without a machine and test your files.
      If you're drawing vectors in Aff Designer it shouldn't be any issue. The biggest thing with vinyl cutters (if you're creating images to be cut into vinyl pieces) is to make sure all of the same colors are compounded together (i.e. all light blue compounded, all red compounded, ect)
      I'll make a video this week showing a design with multiple colors in different spaces so you can see what I mean.
      Am I making any sense?

    • @skalmbac15

    Just found your channel and love your videos. They are very informative so I subscriber just a second ago. I just got into digital downloads and will be selling digital art and was wondering what would be the very best format to save it to. I've heard that to save it to a pdf I would have to email it to the customer because the file size is too large. Since this is the case, would an svg be better ? I'm very busy and want my Etsy shop to operate on it's own without me sending out emails. Please help, Thanks.

      @@ShootingStarSVG Vector Images and background images I find on Pixabay etc. I modify them and make them my own.

      @@inspired2motivate206 you need to be a bit careful with that but as long as you're modifying so the original cannot be extracted you should be fine

    I am new to Affinity. When I export it as an SVG and try to open it in Cricut it will not open. How can I export it so it will open?

      @@Carbon6smami This is the fix to the problem. It will not let me link it but there is a video from ThePirateSky called Cricut Design SVG text with Affinity Designer. He explains exactly how to do it and it works.

    Hey! Maybe you can help me. I created svg files to sell on etsy. Some of my customers are saying its taking a long time for files to upload and or they don't see the files. Do you have an idea of what this could be?

      Possibly, if you haven't already join the FB group (link in description) and we can work through it.

    I can't get anything to work the way you are showing it...apparently this video is not for newbies. This did not help me at all. It would help if you started from the point of opening Affinity. Maybe it's a difference in Affinity Designer 1 v Affinity Designer 2??

      I can re-hash this video for sure. I wouldn't consider this AD new person friendly, but it does go over some basics. I'll get a new video out breaking things down. Not a huge differential between V1 and V2 either
