  • Antibiotic resistance is a HUGE problem, yet very few people realise this. I hope this video therefore introduces you to antibiotics, explains how antibiotic resistance arises and then spreads very rapidly in bacterial populations, and most importantly, just makes you think! We really don’t want to end up in a situation in the future where we don’t have any effective antibiotic treatments left! Definitely LIKE this video if you found it informative and be sure to SHARE it with others so more people become aware of this problem 🦠

I am a first year Microbiology student and this year I got to know more about AMR through various seminars and workshops and realized that most people are not aware about this silent pandemic which is taking place all over the world. People need to be educated about this topic and should be more careful while taking antimicrobial medicines ...

Yes, yes, yes! I'm currently studying pharmacy in Vienna and I cannot stress this enough, very important topic, so I'm glad you talked about it (:
Also WHO ranked the antibiotic resistance into the top ten threats. Alexander Fleming himself (I guess you know who he was) warned about antibiotic resistance almost 90 years ago.

Hi Holly! Your videos has been extremely helpful for me in UNDERSTANDING the biology topics beyond the textbook facts and they really make a difference in biology education! It'd be really helpful if you could make a video about CRISPR/genetic engineering with a focus on telomere/telomerase in the future! Thank you for your videos :)

    Hey Holly
I'm tryna do a research project for college on "modelling tumour growth". It's a biomathematics (applied math) project but I left bio after 10th grade and am doing specialization in math.
Do you think you could help me in any way as to how to approach the subject again specially for the project topic?

Hi holly, I am thinking of studying biology or biochemistry at uni and need to choose my a levels. Atm I have biology, chemistry and psychology. Do u think this is okay? I know I will enjoy psychology more than maths, but idk if maths is necessary to do biology/biochemistry? xxx

Not Holly, but just wanted to mention that maths comes up a lot in all science disciplines including biochemistry and biology. A solid understanding of A level maths will be very helpful whereas A level psychology won’t be of any such direct benefit.

Do you know what’s woefully lacking in the world Holly, that you might be able to provide? An online iGSCE Biology and/or human biology course for home educators. We used Southwest Science school, which you could Google to find out about. I really do think you could do a very good job of making one. It cost us £100 per course and consisted of video lessons, printable worksheets, printable past papers and online quizzes/exercises. We also got access to tutors via a private Facebook group so all students could see Qs and As and also post pictures of their work - I.e. make a model of a cell, take a picture and post on the Facebook group for all other students to see. The tutors didn’t mark assignments but provided downloadable answer sheets. It was a real life line to us as there was literally nothing else out there for us, but I did feel it could be improved on in many areas. Lots of GCSE aged children can’t go to school for various reasons- mental and physical and we’re literally on our own as to providing them with their education. No funding, no help… there’s a big need out there.

@@byhollyg you’re welcome. I should just add - the video lessons were prerecorded for students to watch in their own time - not live video lessons. Although sometimes they did throw in some extra options live study session videos with live chat text boxes for students.

Edexcel exam board. The iGCSE exams are more like old O levels as they don’t have practical assessments- they’re all theory.
