Wish there was a old theater or drive in that played these still. I could enjoy watching them on the big screen like my dad did when he was a kid.

Charles Robert Starrett was an American actor best known for his starring role in the Durango Kid western series. When he retired he held the record for starring in the longest-running string of feature films. 65

Tommy Duncan brought me here, but I enjoy everything with Smiley Burnette in it. He deserves more recognition. My grandkids and great grandkids can't watch one minute of anything in B&W. They will sure miss out on a lot of great movies.

I agree, Smiley was a fantastic talent and sometimes is the very best thing about these films. I think he got much more quality musical time in these series than he had in the Gene Autry pictures. No complaints about that here!

@@michaelklein5242 I Asked in a separate post, but since you are a Tommy Duncan fan, you may know this. Was this film before or after he was singing for Bob Wills? I didn’t think this was a very good exhibit of his talent. He was a whole lot more precise in his delivery and phrasing with The Playboys.

I don't know if anybody noticed but Clayton Moore was in this movie The Lone Ranger . Great movie love these old westerns and Charles Starett and I will go to old friend Smiley Burnette.

The Durango Kid was my favorite, even more than Roy or Gene. 1949 10 years old up front in the old Regent theater

I remember Gail Davis as Annie Oakley on TV when I was a boy. I thought she was beautiful and had a crush on her.

Clayton Moore at the same time he played the Lone Ranger on TV would appear as a baddie in the movies.

Fred Sears, who plays Ashton here, soon because one of Columbia B unit's busiest directors, helming a very large number of films. His best known and most beloved one by fans is undoubtedly Earth vs the Flying Saucers (a picture Orson Welles was said to secretly enjoy!). From what I've read, despite the lack of time and money he was given for his films, Fred worked extremely long hours in the editing room doing his best to give his films a little something extra. He really cared about these little films. Sadly, stress and overwork were partly for his dying at a young age in his late 40s. PS: Hooray for Smiley! 🎉🎈🎊🎈

Best stunt work of the series is probably set in the mine shaft near the conclusion of this film. Socko stuff!

Why do they always have open windows in jail cells? I know, so you can shoot prisoners.

"Comatose" is an appropriate new Name for this sleepy little town, 'Heads buried in the Sand" community .
Cattlemen losing cattle, and Sheep men losing flocks, continuously !
And miners shut down ¹by Town's wealthy Carpet Bagger (all in a Land Grab conspiracy).
    (Just like today. 😂)
Yet there's no perimeter pickets protecting herds, flocks, nor mines.
Did these simpleton learn nothing of "strategy & tactics" in that awful awful SINFUL War ???

music interludes and unfunny burnette have no place in westerns in this low budget potboiler!

What was funny then isn't funny now. Personally, I prefer then. They didn't cuss either. Today's "comics" couldn't have made it then.
