For myself, when I'm going to be around people, I carry 9mm. When I'm on the land or in the woods, I carry 10mm. Love them both. Don't intend to change.

10mm has been around a long time. I own many 10mm pistols and love them. For me, 9mm is too small and .45ACP is too big. 10mm is just right, and more powerful.

@Living in North Carolina! Right on, and thanks for your service. I bought a few .40S&W pistols with polymer frames years ago. When people say .40S&W is a "snappy" round, they aren't kidding. The size of the round is good, but firing .40S&W rounds in lightweight polymer frame pistols is a nightmare for average-size people. I sold mine. If I could have found high quality .40S&W pistols with steel frames, weighing over 40 oz., I would have bought them, but I couldn't. 10mm is the best choice all-around. However, full-size 10mm pistols need steel frames, and weigh 40-45 oz. I'm surprised Sig built the new P320-X10 with a polymer frame, weighing only 33 oz. Let's ask Sig to offer a full-size, striker-fired, high-capacity 10mm Legion with a steel frame or TXG tungsten-infused grip module like the P320-X5 Legion, creating a weight of 43.5 oz.

My Dad passed in 2019, but he was a retired Marine (served in Vietnam and Desert Storm) and a pilot. In his bags he always carried sun glasses, flashlights (probably 3!), a pocket knife or two, over the counter meds, and snacks! Before, I always thought he packed too much, but I see how smart he was now. I know my brother (who is a father) and I could use these bags in our travels and be prepared like my Dad. I think the closest comparison on the market is probably the M&P 2.0 10mm with the 4.6" barrel. Similar size and weight, same capacity, both come with optics cuts. I got one a few months back and it's been great, however most of my carry guns are Sigs, so I'll probably end up with one of these as well eventually.

I've been a huge 5.11 fan. I'm pretty sure they came out the year I graduated from high school in 2003. My older brother is a former LEO that started wearing 5.11 clothing and footwear back then and he was the one that introduced me to 5.11. My brother would always give our dad his old 5.11 boots and our dad wore them until he passed away two years ago. He had one pair that he wore all the time that was well over 15 years old. My dad thought it was the coolest thing to wear those boots, I think it had to deal with the pride he had to see that his son was following in his footsteps(Our dad was a former LEO). My brother has taken our father's passing very hard. So, I got the idea to start hiking more together with our families and honor his memories by teaching our kids how to live off the land, just like our father taught us. Having a great backpack is a huge part of what we do, so I know that two loaded-down 5.11 bags would last a lifetime, just like the old 5.11 boots our dad wore. Who knows, maybe we will be able to pass down two awesome packs to our children some day.

Having shot the 10mm in various configurations and manufacturers the heavier the gun the more pleasant it is to shoot. The S&W 10 series always seemed the best but with only a 9 round capacity. Sig should offer the infused frame. Very smart to design this pistol with a smaller grip circumference than the Glock - which seems to be made for only those with the biggest hands.

    • @bsmithhammer
      @bsmithhammer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

What I've noticed, having shot heavy, all steel, 10mm pistols and some polymer pistols is that heavy steel isn't necessarily that much 'better.' The recoil impulse with a polymer frame feels different than a steel frame, and sure you can go too light and then pay for it with painful recoil, but a 30 oz. polymer frame, full-size 10mm is not really that bad to shoot at all, even with full power loads.
The people who seem to freak out about how "powerful" 10mm loads feel are often people who shoot a lot of 9mm and not much else. I've seen this across multiple reviews of 10mm pistols - you can usually tell the reviewers that are accustomed to shooting more powerful calibers, and the people who don't.

@@bsmithhammer That's been my experience as well. Subjective experience of recoil has more to do with technique than with mass. I'd been shooting a 1911 for years before I knew that most people think of it as having hard recoil. It's not that I don't notice some firearms recoil more than others, it's just that with good technique I don't find it hard to manage.

I've been carrying a G29SF since 2007. I didn't really want a Glock, but HK didn't make a subcompact in 10mm. Considering how much bullet performance has advanced even in the last 15 years, I'm looking at moving to 9mm for carrying most of the year and carrying the 10 during the winter (when heavy clothing tends to mess with HP performance).
If Sig releases a subcompact in 10, I'll definitely be standing in line to get one.

I wouldn't want to run anything other than a Romeo 2 or maybe an RMR on a 10mm, so other options that are less durable and I know won't hold up aren't important to me. Right. I had the Glock G20, too. With a polymer frame and weight of only 30 oz., it was a nightmare to shoot, and I sold it. The new Sig P320-X10 is a step in the right direction, but it needs a steel frame or TXG tungsten-infused grip module to increase the weight to 43.5 oz.

My daughter recently got her carry permit. The 5.11 rush would be awesome for her personal carry. She is a student and a hiker. I could see it filled with books, computer, hiking gear and her pet supplies for her dog. The second would go to my Dad whom also carries. He is always looking for a better way to organize his computer and camera supplies along with the multiple emergency equipment he carries. BTW really excited to get my hands on a Sig 320 X10. I'll get my own rush to pack it during my fishing and hunting trips.

I think that a full size grip with a compact size slide and barrel of 4" or even 3.8" would make fore an excellent carry option. I am not a snob when it comes to grip length, but depending on your concealed carry location preference having a 4.5 or longer muzzle can be rather uncomfortable; especially, if it's inside the waistband.
I owned a Glock 29 for a while, and while I did not do bad on the range with it in slow fire drills really concentrating on how I was aiming, high speed defensive style drills were problematic due to my natural hold when aiming which I attribute to years of 1911 shooting. The significant difference in grip angle and how you have to hold a Glock made it very difficult for me to over come almost 20 years of 1911 point and shoot muscle memory.
I ended up selling it because my spare time for range trips was scarce and I won't carry a pistol I am not competent with. I also did not care for the stock trigger at all, but did not see the point in modding a pistol I could not warm up to.
I have since shot the new XD 10mms and the M&P 10mms and have to say they were a much better fit for me. The XD has a better trigger but I feel the M&P was better in the accuracy and lighter felt recoil departments; especially in the compact models. I will have to shoot the Sig and see how it compares to the full size versions of the XD and M&P to determine if the higher premium is worth it or not. I will say this though, if Canick or Beretta drop an SFX Elite or APX 10mm in carry size it's a wrap because they are two of my favorite polymer pistols for straight out of the box no mods needed firearms.
If Beretta makes a 10 compact on the new and improved APX platform it may very well be the best 10mm poly-striker pistol in existence. Heck, I wouldn't care if they built it on the old APX platform. I really enjoyed that pistol even with its ray-gun looks.

not gonna lie man, I was thinking about getting the Glock-20 at one point, due to it being $200 cheaper than the XTEN. But after chatting with a close friend of mine (who himself is a big gun guy like me) about which 10mm handgun is best between the Glock-20, the FN-Tactical, and the XTEN, he said to go with the XTEN, since Sig Sauer makes some pretty good guns anyway. So I did, and it's pretty much the twin piece to my P320 in 9mm.

This should be a good selling item for Sig, this was a decent review. I'd recommend that any 10MM ammo you're taking into big bear country be chronographed, 10MM ammo is notorious for being under loaded. The clubs current range master carries a 10MM, when loaded up properly it's a decent round, when it's not it's not very good. However 15 rounds of 10MM with max loads might be enough with an average Kodiak.
Owning 9MM+P+, 357 SIG (full power), 45 Super, and having shot several 10MM handguns, I'd stick with 9MM+P or 357 Sig, for defense, faster and easier to hit with for more people.
Having worked at regulated game farms and guiding in big bear country I'll stick to my 6 inch Model 29, 44 magnum, a 240 grain at 1,400 FPS is barely adequate as the bear get to 800+ pounds, then only because I carry a 450 magnum rifle. Unfortunately today you need a damn mortgage to buy a model 29.

Thanks for the Video. This looks like a formitable gun. I have been a fan of the 10mm catridge since the early 1990's when I had a Smith & Wesson model 1006. I bought a Tanfoglio Stock 3 in 10mm about a year and a half ago. The options for 10mm rounds are excellent now. I can go all the way to 1700 fps in a light solid copper round and get 1200 fps in 185 g's and I think some Buffalo bore 200 grains at the same FPS. If Sig's X10 shoots and functions like the P320 X5 Legion it must be a nice gun. The 320 Legion was my first Sig. Obviously the 10 has some more recoil but 10's are managable. If you can shoot a 45 you can shoot a 10. I also find it more accurate than the 9's & 45's.
