  • K Series Transmission and Shifter Identifier: What will work for your setup
    By Aaron Gaghagen
    Brian is Mr. K Swap. One of the most asked questions he gets is about what K series shifter works with what transmission. It may seem kind of complicated, but it really isn't. In this Three Minute Thursday Brian shows the difference in shifters and transmissions while giving you an easy way to remember what works together.

      People have switched the gear selectors like this:

      Or people have modified the shifter itself to use it like this:

    @DC5Daily 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great info! This is probably a stupid question, but are the gear selector mechanisms on the transmission side interchangeable from one style to the other? Assuming they are, I'm sure you'd also need to figure something out in terms of the shifter cable bracket as well, no?

    • @VTECAcademy

      They are with a caveat. Sometimes you need to drill and tap new holes to attach them.

      The CRV shifter would require you to use the CRV subframe. You would probably be easier to get the 2003 to 2007 accord shifter and cables. They can be made to fit by a couple of holes.

      The last three which use the Accord style shifter are 8th gen Civic Si, 2007 Accord and 9th gen Civic Si (it's the one not on a cart.).

    Out of curiosity could you still bolt up the wrong shifter? and still be able to select gears?
    Would it be backwards? Thinking like the Mercedes 190E that James May drove on top gear that one time with 1st gear being where second gear usually is.

    So if I have a TSX k24z3 6speed trans, the accord style shifter should work on this (92 civic)?

      @VTECAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2008-2014 Accord shifter with cables. If you want to use the 2003-2007 Accord shifter you will have to make a transmission bracket for the cables.

    Great info as always, Brian! When you say an accord style shifter, are you also including the 90-93 accord shifter too? I've got an EF hatch and will be using a TSX 6 speed (ASU5), wanting to use a shifter that lets me mount under the tunnel or keep it very slim under a DC2 center trim panel. Haven't purchased my shifter yet.
