- For the second part of our Blind test series we invited Techno heavyweights Ellen Allien and Monika Kruse, Detroit legend Alan Oldham a.k.a. T-1000, Berlin rave godfather Tanith, Milton Bradley and Producer duo CYRK (Pascal Hetzel and Sammy Gossens).
We've chosen 8 Techno classics from our private collection to test our contestants' train-spotting abilities. Feel free to ID the tracks yourself!

The Technasia track is ‘Resilience’, not ‘Force’. ‘Force’ is A1, ‘Resilience’ is B1 on the 2000 12".

Whoever edited this is REALLY good. They managed to make the music play consistently through cuts of the people and still convincingly cut the music out and back in whenever the needle was moved. Kudos!

I've designed a bunch of garbage in my career, but doing the Art Of Vengeance EP with Groove La Chord for Fragile still makes me feel humble to have done it. Such a great track, much thanks to D.May, soooo awesome to see it here. Truly a 'classic'! (not because of the design :P)

Electronic music sounds more futuristic than contemporary modern ones. It just cuts to the chase with primal sounds from the electronic grid the synthetic entity was born in. Lives well embedded in cities
It's because were stuck into today's electronic that we forget the classics from the 90's to 00's.
I like how they sync'd when everyone lifted the needle between video edits, very clever!

Thank you for green velvet, till this day i remembered hearing this track in the limelight manhattan tripping balls. the melody of his voice is all i remember, it bugged me out!!! over twenty years later i still talk about this very track then when it kicked in here, my neighbors heard me yell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no way this it!!!!! immediately. thank you thank you thank you brilliant track

'The label is blue with funny yellow',... I recognize this because after a while you know a lot of your tracks only by their label, because that is what you look for, while frantically looking trough your records while on stage.

When Aril Brikha came up my mind zoomed back to the factory floor, listening to Calle Dernulf on Swedish Radio P3 every single wednesday night. We were 3-4 guys who went bonkers for those 2 hours the radio show lasted.

You know what I love the most about these videos? Being born in the late 90s, I did not experience all these classics (I heard some of them the first time in this video lol) but It shows me so much awesome stuff is still out there to listen :)

really impressive that they recognise the grooves on the records
if you spin vinyl for 20+ years you get a feel for those details, even recognizing some pressing plants.
Detroit techno of the time was mostly all being pressed at the same plant, and usually cut and mastered by the famous Ron Murphy (NSC) using his signature Scully lathe; so often had a certain 'look'.
And big acid tracks like that had quite distinctive grooves too, that you would definitely recognise when you saw them, if they were familiar.
This particular record was pressed running from inside to outside. You don't need to be a pro to see that.
The idea is that most of the detroit techno stuff was playing from the inside to the outside.
However, Overkill amped this one up a level. In addition to the inside-out playing, the grooves were not locked, and the stylus would jump off at the end, assuming you left the turntable unattended. It was even etched on the vinyl, "when this track ends, so will your needle".
Ever since I have known about this fact (which to be honest, is since this Thursday) I have been wondering how many people were caught off guard by this.
actually i used to be a huge indie music super obscure vinyl addict (before internet, mp3) and i could tell how loud or quiet bits of songs would be and what the guitar would be like and therefore of course the song structure just from looking at the vinyl, and even if i would definitely like the track because i loved certain structures and textures of music!!!!! i have no exact idea how, but just from the vinyl tracks. I had to buy by post and unwrap before i put it on (i had to get permission to use my dad's record player) so there was a lot of seeing before hearing. I forgot that until reading your post, thanks for bringing back my memories!
